Good Morning, Mets fans!
Matt Harvey‘s (0-1, 4.80 ERA) last few starts haven’t been that encouraging, but he’ll hope to reverse that trend against a third-place Braves team today. The Braves scheduled starter, Anibal Sanchez, suffered a hamstring injury yesterday and they have not announced his replacement yet.
In yesterday’s game, Tanner Roark quieted the Mets for the first six innings, only allowing two runs. However, the Mets kept battling back against the Nationals bullpen. Just as the eighth inning was the Mets’ demise on Monday night, it was their huge frame last night. The frame began with a 4-2 Nationals lead and ended with nine more Mets runs on the board. Juan Lagares doubled to grant the Mets a two-run lead and Yoenis Cespedes smacked a grand-slam to extend it. The win increased the Mets NL East lead to five game.
Steven Matz allowed a three run homer to Ryan Zimmerman in the first inning, so it seems destined to be one of “those” nights. But he managed to retire his last ten batters of the night before being removed after the fourth inning. Paul Sewald followed him and had another amazing outing, allowing only one run over three innings. AJ Ramos shut down the Nationals in the eighth inning and Seth Lugo finished off the game.
