MMO Game Recap: Mets Get Swept in 2-0 Loss To Atlanta

The New York Mets (28-36) were swept by the Atlanta Braves (39-28) as they were shutout at SunTrust Park in a 2-0 loss.

Pitching

What more can be said about Jacob deGrom? The righty was nearly flawless in his start against the Braves and did as much that can possibly be done to help his team win. He is on a one-man mission to show that pitching wins don’t matter.

Jacob was perfect for the first three innings but gave up a run on an RBI single by Freddie Freeman. At what point do we recognize he really is Chipper Freeman? He pitched a scoreless fifth and sixth inning and got out of a jam in the seventh that his defense helped create. deGrom left after seven despite throwing just 86 pitches. His season ERA is 1.55. It is June 13th.

Jerry Blevins got the first two outs of the eighth inning but then gave up a homer to Chipper Freeman.

Offense

What offense?

The Mets had just one baserunner going into the seventh inning when Michael Conforto singled to give them their first hit of the afternoon. They were not able to score him.

In the eighth, Dominic Smith drew a one-out walk but again, the Mets could not score him. If there is one thing I want out of this, it is for Dom to play every day and keep learning.

In the ninth, Conforto drew a one-out walk and Brandon Nimmo doubled with two outs after a questionable called third strike on Todd Frazier. Jay Bruce ultimately could not get it done, so close but no cigar.

On Deck

The Mets will move onto Arizona where they take on the Diamondbacks in the first of a four-game set. Steven Matz (2-4, 3.53 ERA) will take on Matt Koch (4-3, 4.20 ERA). The game starts at 9:40 p.m. and will air on SNY.
