LHP P.J. Conlon, who will be making his major league debut. Conlon is starting in place of Jacob deGrom, who is expected to return from the 10-day DL and start on Sunday against the Phillies in Philadelphia.
The 24-year-old Conlon has a 6.75 ERA and 1.58 WHIP with 21 strikeouts in 24.0 innings this season for Triple-A Las Vegas in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. He had a 3.38 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with 108 strikeouts in 136.0 innings for Double-A Binghamton in 2017.
Conlon will become the first Irish-born big leaguer since 1945, when Joe Cleary made one relief appearance for the Washington Senators.
RHP Homer Bailey (4.81 ERA/5.67 FIP, 1.25 WHIP in 39.1 innings over seven starts), who allowed five runs on six hits while walking one and striking out one in 5.0 innings against the Brewers on May 1.
