Mets Post Game: Mets 3, Yankees 2 F/10

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Jason Bay delivered the walk-off single in the 10th inning, his 2nd hit of the day.
  2. Ronny Paulino hit a pinch hit RBI single to tie the game against Rivera in the 9th.
  3. Dickey pitched 5 innings and left with a glut strain after 5 innings.

What a huge win for the Mets today, they got a blown save out of Mariano Rivera and then won the game in the 10th. This is exactly what the Mets needed after 2 tough losses to the Yanks. Great way to end interleague play for the season.

I hope Jason bay can finish this season as hot as he was against the American League. It was real good to see Jason get the hit today.

Ronny Paulino is a great catcher. A sensational signing by Alderson.

Mets Post Game: Yankees 5, Mets 1

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Jon Niese let up 3 runs on 9 hits over 6 innings. He struck out 7 and walked 2.
  2. Ruben Tejada had an RBI single.
  3. Justin Turner was 3 for 5 tonight.

The Mets just made too many mental mistakes tonight. Jose Reyes was thrown out at 3rd late in the game down by 2, and Murphy let a ball skip off his glove that resulted in a run. I am ok with the aggressiveness by Reyes because he was trying to make something happen (and also he was safe.) Murphy, on the other hand, should have jumped to get the ball so it did not go behind him.

Jon Niese pitched very well tonight. He struggled in the first against the tough Yankee lineup, but settled in getting 5 called strike 3 pitches mostly with his curveball. He has been great this year and didn’t deserve the loss.

The Mets played just ugly baseball tonight. They were not executing plays and stranding runners on base over and over again.

Mets Post Game: Yankees 7, Mets 3

The Numbers:

  • Capuano started and went 5 1/3 innings and let up 6 hits, 6 runs, and struck out 5. He gave up 4 homers.
  • Beato went 1 2/3 innings scoreless and Buchholz gave up 1 run.
  • Jose Reyes had 3 hits, a stolen base, and scored twice.
  • Murphy had 2 hits and scored a run.
  • Beltran had an RBI single as did Justin Turner.
  • Jason Bay hit a sac fly.

Chris Capuano simply got bit by Yankee Stadium tonight. It was a long night for him with all of those “long” balls.

If the Mets were playing this game at home, then I can assume that would have resulted in a 3-1 victory. That is smallest ballpark on the face of the planet.

Justin Turner is amazing. An RBI in 7 straight games is an amazing achievement seeing as he set a new franchise record. You need runners on base along with timely hitting to pull this off.

Pedro Beato’s return was nothing out of the ordinary. He was great as usual.

Hey look, no one got raptured so we got to play this game!

Mets Post Game: Mets 2, Yankees 1

The Numbers:

  • Justin Turner was spectacular again knocking 3 hits including an RBI double.
  • Dickey looked like the man from last year going 6 innings only letting up 4 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 6.
  • Daniel Murphy homered tonight. A go ahead shot in the 6th.
  • Beltran, F-Mart, and Pridie all had hits tonight.
  • O’Connor, Izzy, and K-Rod all pitched scoreless innings to end it.

Don’t worry K-Rod, the saves are ok at Yankee stadium this year. Castillo is gone remember?

Dickey was phenomenal tonight getting back to what he did at his best last year. His best signs were only the 4 hits allowed and that he struck out 6 Bankee, I mean Yankee batters. His only bad mark was that homer from Texiera. IT IS HIGH IT IS FAR IT IS GONE!! OH BABY MARK SENDS A TEXT MESSAGE, YOUR ON THE MARK TEXIERA. (I couldn’t resist making fun of that ridiculous broadcaster.)

Turner may be the hottest player in the NL right now. RBIs in 6 straight games, unbelievable. Player of the week?

Murph’s homer was clutch and it got Dickey a win that he desperately needed.

Jose Reyes made an amazing game saving catch in the 5th to throw out a runner. That is why he needs to be resigned.

THE YANKEES LOSE THEEEEEEEE YANKEES LOOOOOSE! Wow I really need to stop making fun of that man….

Come into Yankee stadium and taking game one from the bombers is a huge statement from this team. And my friend whose a Red Sox fan greatly appreciated it.

Cliff Lee Will NOT Be A Met…Or a Yankee

All day and night it was reported that the Yankees were on the brink of acquiring ANOTHER superstar pitcher. It was reported that Lee would be a Yankee but, thankfully the Mariners denied the trade over concerns about David Adams’ health. What a relief for baseball. They do not need any more pitchers.

So the question is where is Lee going? Cliff Lee will be a Texas Ranger. The trade was just official minutes ago and it includes prospect first baseman Justin Smoak. Thank god he will not a Yankee… hello Roy Oswalt, Ted Lilly, or Dan Haren.

Mets Post Game: Yankees 4, Mets 0

What’s Important:

Hitting:

There was no offense at all today. We got 4 hits today and didn’t score. Wright and Tejada got hits but, really there was nothing today.

Pitching:

Johan’s line was worse than he actually pitched. He pitching 6 innings and gave up 4 runs. All 4 of the runs came on a grand slam by Texiera. Mejia pitched the 7th, and Nieve pitched a scoreless 8th.

Grade for the Game: D

Johan was good and so was the bullpen. In Citi Field this could have gone for a Mets win. However, I was disappointed to at the offense today. Overall, we could have won this game if we clutch hit, and were in Citi Field.

Mets Post Game: Mets 6, Yankees 4

What’s Important:

Hitting:

All i need to say is Jason Bay for tonight. He entered today’s game with questions about his Power but, hit 2 home runs tonight. One of which was an opposite field home run. Jose Reyes looked good tonight getting 2 hits, one of which was 2 out with a runner in scoring position. Alex Cora had a big hit tonight as he hit a 2 run single with 2 out to begin the Met scoring. David Wright drove in the other Met run with an RBI double.

Pitching:

Johan Santana was just incredible. His line was 7 2/3 IP, 6 hits, 1 run, 3 walks, 5 strikeouts. He did not get into a 3 ball count until the 7th inning and simply was too much for the Yankee hitters. Feliciano came in and got Cano to pop up with the bases loaded and end the inning. Tonight we saw the return of an uneffective Ryota Igarashi. He got 1 out, and gave up a couple runs. This caused K-Rod to come in for the save. A Jeter double and a Texiera chopper made it runners on 1st and 3rd with 2 out with A-Rod at the plate. After a long duel of an AB with Rodriguez, K-Rod struck him out with a 3-2 change-up that was simply beautiful.

Grade for the Game: A

I do not care that the bullpen was shaky tonight. The Mets got clutch hits from a ton of people, and a huge night from Jason Bay’s power. The 2 home runs that Bay hit tonight is why we signed him for 4 years. The only Met without a hit tonight was Frenchy. Johan Santana had his best start of the season thus far tonight and showed why he is considered an elite pitcher. The pitch that K-Rod struck him out with was a phenomenal pitch. I was very happy with his night tonight as Jason Bay made Citi Field look small.

Mets Post Game: Mets 5, Yankees 3

What’s Important

Hitting:

Tonight, Jason Bay and David Wright were sensational, for once. Bay went 4 for 4 with 3 singles and a double as Wright went 2 for 4 with 2, 2 out RBI singles. Angel Pagan had 3 hits tonight and  2 RBI. The other RBI was a HUGE 2 out pinch hit single by Alex Cora to drive in a run. Jose Reyes went 2 for 5 hitting 2 line drives for singles in his last 2 at bats.

Pitching:

Mike Pelfrey was phenomenal tonight going 6 innings of 1 run ball while walking 2 and striking out 5. Mejia came in and got into some trouble but struck out Texiera and got A-Rod to ground out to Wright. Feliciano came in and loaded the bases without getting an out. Nieve struck out the first batter and walked the next to force in a run. K-Rod came in and got the 5 out save to shut the door.

Grade for the Game: A

Even though the bullpen struggled, they still only gave up 2 runs. Pelfrey was amazing tonight and the offense got 12 hits and went 5 for 12 with runners in scoring position. Pelfrey out pitched the 5-0 Phil Hughes even when the odds were against him.
