Mets Trade K-Rod to the Brewers

The Mets and Brewers announced today that they have completed a trade for closer Francisco Rodriguez and cash for 2 players to be named later. K-Rod will be the new Brewers set-up man.The Mets will get to pick 2 players from a pool of guys to complete the trade.

This is one contract that the Mets needed to get rid of. We could not allow ourselves to pay K-Rod 17.5MM in 2012 because he finished 55 games this season. I have a feeling that Sandy is going to pick 2 great young guys to finish the trade. As for the closers role, Izzy, I believe will not get it. He is too old and can not take the innings. I believe it is in-between Parnell and Beato. I would like to see Beato, however I believe Parnell will be the new closer of the Mets. The white flag has not yet been waved by Alderson. Best of luck to K-Rod in Milwaulkee. Lets Go Mets!

Mets Post Game: Mets 7, Pirates 0

By the Numbers:

  • Chris Capuano went 7 strong innings letting up 0 runs on 3 hits. He walked 2 and struck out 5.
  • Jose Reyes had another huge day going 3 for 5 with a solo homer.
  • Scott Hairston had a pinch hit solo homer back to back with Reyes.
  • Carlos Beltran had a 2 run single.
  • Daniel Murphy had 2 hits today.

Capuano was great today as he kept the pirates off balance and didn’t allow a run to score. He has been a great 5th starter.

Jose Reyes was Jose Reyes…again.

The play where Murphy scored on the sac fly was weird because it took awhile to notice that it was Pagan not Murphy that was called out, good thing they scored.

Murphy has been such an underrated hitter all year long and is second in the NL in batting average since May 21st, only lower than Reyes.

Back to back homers for what seemed like the first time all year just what this team needs!

The offense and rotation is rolling…this could be a very good stretch for this team.

Mets Post Game: Mets 2, Brewers 1

By the Numbers:

  • Chris Capuano started  and went 6 innings while letting up 6 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts.
  • Jose Reyes had 2 MORE hits today including a go ahead 2 run triple.
  • Tejada had 2 hits and Pagan had 1.
  • Beato, Izzy, and K-Rod pitched a scoreless inning each.
  • Beltran had no hits but had a homer robbed from him.

Cap was great in his return to Milwaukee. He threw strikes got big outs, that is shown by how he struck out Braun twice.

I know Shaq retired it during his retirement speech, but Jose Reyes is superman. He can FLY.

Jason Bay is at 0 for 20….Year and a half long slump, come on man!

The ‘pen really stepped up today going 9 up 9 down.

Hat tip to former Met Carlos Gomez, that was a great play on Beltran’s ball.

Scott Hairston’s Days are Numbered

Scott Hairston is a Met, for now. However, they might have just given him his farewell with the callup of Nick Evans. Hairston has been absolutely awful this year after a sensational spring. He is below .200 with 1 homer and is not mashing homers like usual. When Ike comes back, Tejada will probably be sent back down to the minors, however when Wright returns Hairston could be a goner. There is no way you could convince me that Sandy would call up Evans with the intention of sending him back down. He is out of options and can play the outfield and first base. Can you tell me another outfielder who hits from the right side? Hairston. It’s simple. He will either be a free agent or playing with Hu in AAA. Sandy would not risk Evans getting picked up on waivers especially with the rival Phillies looking for an outfield bat. Jason Pridie will stay because of his speed and he has hit. Besides, Pagan is almost back anyways.

Chin-Lung Hu needs to be sent down

Chin-Lung Hu has been awful so far this year. He has one hit in 16 or so at bats which is an .051 batting average. However, an argument could be made that he is up for his defense too.  But, he made an error today. It makes no sense. I don’t like him up in the big leagues. How about somebody better than Hu. The only thing going for him still is the jokes about his name.
