Mets Post Game: Mets 3, Yankees 2 F/10

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Jason Bay delivered the walk-off single in the 10th inning, his 2nd hit of the day.
  2. Ronny Paulino hit a pinch hit RBI single to tie the game against Rivera in the 9th.
  3. Dickey pitched 5 innings and left with a glut strain after 5 innings.

What a huge win for the Mets today, they got a blown save out of Mariano Rivera and then won the game in the 10th. This is exactly what the Mets needed after 2 tough losses to the Yanks. Great way to end interleague play for the season.

I hope Jason bay can finish this season as hot as he was against the American League. It was real good to see Jason get the hit today.

Ronny Paulino is a great catcher. A sensational signing by Alderson.

Mets Post Game: Mets 8, Pirates 1

By the Numbers:

  • Dillon Gee went 8 magnificent innings letting up 8 hits, 1 run, no walks, and 5 strikeouts.
  • Jose Reyes went 3 for 5 with a solo homer.
  • Angel Pagan had a double, triple, and RBI tonight.
  • Justin Turner had a 2 run single.
  • Lucas Duda had an RBI single and Sac fly.
  • Josh Thole had 3 hits and an RBI.
  • Carlos Beltran also had an RBI and a hit.

Dillon Gee is just a great all around pitcher. He does not have ace like stuff but, he is surely pitching like an ace this year. He simply knows how to pitch and can execute even after a rough first. A 7-0 start for arguably the most underrated rookie on the season.

For some reason the Mets can rake against Charlie Morton when no other team can, now if only they could hit the ACTUAL Halladay…

Jose Reyes….you guys know the drill. AMAZING!

Josh Thole and Ruben Tejada have really turned it on this year hitting very well at positions the Mets were unsure of coming into the year.

Lucas Duda looks like a different hitter from earlier this year. He has so much power and he hit the ball so much harder than a 1 for 4 night tonight.

I love watching this non-power lineup for the Mets, getting hits with runners on has been where they have thrived during this good stretch for the offense. Power baseball is exciting, but line drives and singles can be great too.

Mets Post Game: Mets 5, Braves 0

By the Numbers:

  • Dillon Gee was amazing tonight going 7 innings, letting up 0 runs on 4 hits. He walked 2 and struck out 2.
  • Jose Reyes hit a bases clearing 3 run triple to extend the lead.
  • Jason Pridie had a pinch hit single.
  • Justin Turner had a hit and a sac fly.
  • Murphy and Thole had 2 hits a piece.
  • Beato pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings while Byrdak pitched 2/3 of an inning.

Dillon Gee was great tonight as he mauled through a braves lineup through 7 innings while only throwing 85 pitches. He could have gone 9 if the Mets were not rallying in the 7th. He is defiantly, if not the frontrunner, in the conversation for NL Rookie of the Year.

Jose Reyes is the most exciting player in baseball. Period.

Jason Pridie had such a clutch pinch hit today. He has been great so far this year.

Justin Turner just continues to produce for this team.

Mets Post Game: Pirates 5, Mets 1

By the Numbers:

  • R.A. Dickey went 7 2/3 strong innings giving up 5 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 10 strikeouts. Through 7 he had allowed 2 hits 0 runs and struck out 9.
  • Pagan and Murphy had 2 hits each today.
  • Jason Bay had an RBI single in the first inning, however the ball went 40 ft.
  • Bobby Parnell struggled in his return giving up 2 runs in 2/3 of an inning.
  • The bottom 4 of the lineup went hitless tonight.

Dickey was so much better than his line tonight. He did not at all deserve the loss tonight. 2 hits thorough 7 innings was just spectacular and he struck out a career high 10 batters. This looks like the Dickey from 2010.

Parnell still let down the Mets tonight, I do not know what is wrong with him. He has good stuff but he is a thrower not a pitcher.

It is really great to see Pagan back into form after returning from the DL. He is a huge part to this team.

This team can not hit a homer anymore.

Mets Post Game: Marlins 2, Mets 1 F/11

The Numbers:

  • Mike Pelfrey went 7 strong innings and the only mistake was a home run by Mike Stanton.
  • Justin Turner had 2 hits and an RBI double.
  • Jon Niese hit a pinch hit triple in the 11th…haha.
  • Bay, Beltran, Pridie, and Reyes all had hits today.
  • Igarashi gave up an RBI hit to a pitcher and earned the loss.
  • Byrdak, Iggy, K-Rod, and O’Connor had scoreless innings.

What a weird game with all the field troubles to a pitcher getting the game winning hit in  the 11th. Also another pitcher hitting a pinch hit triple.

Mike Pelfrey was great against a team that normally hits him hard. He was attacking the zone and got quick outs.

Mets Post Game: Mets 4, Rockies 3

The Numbers:

  • Mike Pelfrey went 6 2/3 innings and let up 6 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts. He also hit an RBI double from the plate.
  • Ike Davis had a hit which what a 2 run single in the 1st.
  • Izzy, Byrdak, and K-Rod all pitched scoreless outings tonight.
  • Jose Reyes hit a double while Paulino and Turner had base hits.
  • Daniel Murphy had 2 hits tonight.

Mike Pelfrey had a great outing tonight as he controlled all of his pitches. I am still personally not a fan of Mike Pelfrey, but he pitched well tonight and got the win.The runs he gave up were all on solo homers.

Now here is the play that I had a problem with. The play that Ike got hurt. Ike and Wright collided on a ball that was popped in the air in front of the pitchers mound. Ike hurt his calf, however the collision was not the problem to me. Pelfrey was the problem. Pelfrey should have either fielded the ball OR helped Ike and Wright out and told them they were near eachother. What did he do? He stood there, and watched. Help out your team mates Pelf.

Tim Byrdak pitched great as he got Helton on a 3 pitch strikeout to end the 8th.

What a strange at bat right after the rain delay. The at-bat consisted of 2 pitchers, and 2 hitters. It was Pelfrey vs. Fowler before the rain delay, then after it was Izzy vs. Fowler. Fowler fouled a ball off his knee and came out of the game so it was Izzy vs. Spilborghs in one at bat. Weird Stuff.

The Mets are not 3-8 in one run games.

Mets Post Game: Dodgers 4, Mets 2

The Numbers:

  • R.A. Dickey started today and went 7 innings and let up 10 hits, 4 runs, (3 earned), 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
  • Jose Reyes had 2 hits and a triple. Hairston also has 2 hits.
  • Paulino went 2 for 4 with an RBI.
  • Justin Turner had a hit and scored a run.
  • Mike O’Connor pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief.

It seems like Dickey always excels early and gives up a run or so, then has a big 8th inning and his ERA balloons and he does not get the win. Simply unlucky I guess.

In the simplest terms possible, Jose Reyes is UNSTOPPABLE. Wow that triple in the 9th was great.

David Wright can not hit a fastball right now.

Grade for the Game: C+

Mets Post Game: Mets 4, Dodgers 2

The Numbers:

  • Dillon Gee started for the Mets and went 5 2/3 good innings letting up 7 hit, 2 runs, 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
  • Justin Turner hit a go ahead, pinch hit, 400 ft, 2 run single to give the Mets the lead in the bottom of the 8th.
  • Jason Pridie went 3 for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored.
  •  Reyes went had 2 hits and an RBI single.
  • Wright, Beltran, and Murphy each had a hit tonight.
  • O’Connor, Iggy, Byrdak, and K-Rod all had scoreless outings.

For being a spot starter, and a guy who needs awhile to warm up, Dillon Gee pitched great. 5 1/3 innings and kept the Mets in the game, that is all you can ask in a situation like that.

Turner’s “single” was huge tonight. I put single in quotes because it was 400ft deep into center field. My guess is that he starts tomorrow against Kershaw.

The amazing Reyes scuffled a little on the basepaths, but in all he had another good game. He is starting to get those hits with RISP.

The bullpen was fantastic tonight, especially getting out of their own jams.

Jason Pridie continues to surprise me, he just continues to make good plays in center, and hit a little bit to the surprise of most.

Also, the Mets ended Andre Ethier’s hitting streak at 30 tonight.

Mets Post Game: Mets 4, D-Backs 1

The Numbers:

  • Mike Pelfrey started and posted a line of 7 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
  • Ike Davis hit a go ahead 2 run home run in the 7th inning that just cleared the orange line in center field.
  • Carlos Beltran went 1 for 3 with an RBI single.
  • Jason Bay hit a double and struck out twice.
  • Reyes, Murphy, and Nickeas also had hits tonight.
  • Wright went o for 2 with 2 walks and a steal.
  • Izzy pitched a scoreless 8th and K-Rod pitched a scoreless 9th to get the save.

This was a huge start for Mike Pelfrey, after runners were on first and third with nobody out to start the game, he retired the side without a run scoring including a strikeout of Justin Upton. This was also a team that he has never beat, until tonight. He looked so much better tonight than he has all of this year. Hopefully this will stay.

Ike has been such a clutch hitter all year hitting a huge homer to straight away center field. He is leading the Mets in RBI this season.

This lineup looks more confident with Bay in that they feel they can score whenever. Hopefully Bay can show us some power this year.

Izzy has been a force in the ‘pen this year showing that he is not done yet in the majors.
