Mets Post Game: Giants 3, Mets 1

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Capuano started and was great. He went 6 innings, let up 2 runs on 4 hits with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts.
  2. Daniel Murphy went 1 for 4 with an RBI double.
  3. Josh Thole went 1 for 2 with a double.

Capuano was great tonight. After a rough first inning of getting the ball stung, he really settled down and kept the giants at bay. I honestly thought after the first inning tonight, he was in for a 3 or 4 inning start. Very tough loss for Capuano tonight.

All of the Mets hits tonight were 2 out doubles. Kind of strange how things work out that way.

The rules with aces are that if you don’t get to them in the first, you probably won’t get to him at all. This happened tonight as the Mets got 1 run off Lincecum in the first, however it was not enough as he shut them down for the rest of his start.

Sidenote:

Congrats to Derek Jeter on his 3000th career hit and an outstanding game. Being a baseball fan, I really enjoy that type of history. Also, Jeter is one of the few Yankees I have respect for, he’s a classy guy who plays the game the right way even during the steroid era. Send all the hate you want, I am happy for Jeter.

Mets Post Game: Dodgers 6, Mets 0

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Dillon Gee went 5 2/3 innings and let up 5 hits, 6 runs (5 earned), 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts.
  2. Ruben Tejada went 1 for 2 with 2 walks and his first stolen base of the season.
  3. Daniel Murphy had 2 hits.

Dillon Gee had control issues tonight. He didn’t have anything with the walks, but he threw 4 wild pitches tonight. I would be shocked if he had thrown 4 all year. His curveball looked like he could not control it. Good work though 5 today though, everything fell apart in the 6th inning.

Ruben Tejada did a real gutsy thing today and stole third down 6 with 2 outs. He made it safely, but you can’t steal 3rd down by 6. You never want to make the first or third out of an inning at third base. It is something he has to learn and I’m sure TC will talk to him about it.

Murphy has been a hits machine since he has had a full time starting job. I really like what he has done this year.

Mets Post Game: Mets 16, Tigers 9

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Angel Pagan went 4 for 6 with 4 RBI including 2 doubles.
  2. Daniel Murphy drove in 4 runs on 2 clutch 2 run singles with the bases loaded and 2 outs.
  3. Jason Bay went 1 for 2 with 4 walks and an RBI single.

Wow…that is all I can say, WOW.

This team is doing everything right. They are working the count and just hitting line drives. This team is so clutch getting endless hits with 2 outs and RISP. This is the most I have enjoyed watching this team in a long time.

Pagan is starting to get some hits off of left handed pitchers, that is great for him to start getting hot.

Cap was good tonight, his only blemish was 2 Miguel Cabrera homers.

The Mets were 10-17 with 2 outs tonight, that is a huge number.

I am Speechless…the AMAZIN’ METS ARE BACK!!!!

Grade for the Game: A+

Mets Post Game: Braves 6, Mets 3

By the Numbers:

  • Jon Niese was spectacular going 7 2/3 innings while letting up 2 runs on 8 hits, walking 1, and striking out 7 Braves.
  • Jose Reyes had his 27th multi-hit game with ANOTHER triple.
  • Pagan and Murph each had 2 hits and an RBI.
  • Carlos Beltran hit an RBI single.
  • Izzy gave up 1 unearned run in 1/3 of an inning while K-Rod let up 3 in the 9th.

Niese was great tonight and is really locking in as a left handed threat on the mound. His year ERA is now 3.75 which is great seeing what is was at after April.

These types of losses really bring a fan down, especially when they happen every single night. When a team is blowing leads at home, in front of THEIR fans, it is just an awful sight to see.

The Bullpen is simply terrible lately, I mean just awful. It seems that everyone is giving up runs left and right.

Pagan has been great since coming back from the DL and fixed exactly what was wrong with him.

Mets Post Game: Mets 9, Phillies 5

By the Numbers:

  • Jon Niese started and was great going 6 1/3 innings letting up 5 hits. 1 run (0 earned), 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts.
  • Jose Reyes had 4 hits, an RBI, and 2 triples today.
  • Josh Thole and Daniel Murphy each had 3 hits. Thole had 3 RBI while Murph had one.
  • Turner and Bay had 2 hits a piece.
  • Tejada had an RBI hit as did Angel Pagan.
  • The bullpen struggled as Buchholz gave up 3 runs and Beato gave up 1.

Jon Niese was great today throwing a career high 122 pitches. He got out of all of the jams he pitched into only faltering after a Reyes error.

Speaking of Reyes, as Gary Cohen said we are running out of adjectives to describe Jose and the price grows higher every day. He had yet another great game.

Thole had a huge day breaking out of a long slump he also did not strikeout. Whatever tinkering he did with his swing, it worked.

The bullpen is in a rut right now. It just gives up run after run almost blowing an 8 run lead today. If they don’t straighten up, this team will not win games.

I feel Bay getting into a hot streak now with 2 straight games with RBI hits.

Grade for the Game: B+

Mets Post Game: Cubs 11, Mets 1

The Numbers:

  • Jon Niese started and went 5 innings letting up 7 hits, 6 runs (2 earned), 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts.
  • Jose Reyes had another good day knocking 2 hits and an RBI.
  • Paulino and Tejada each had 2 hits. Tejada almost hit another Wrigley Field homer.
  • Harris, Murphy, and Beltran all had hits.
  • Buchholz went 1 1/3 innings and lets up 2 runs (1 earned) while Pat Misch went 2/3 of an innings letting up 3 earned runs.

Jon Niese pitched in tough luck today. He gave up alot of bloop hits and almost catches by Met defenders. That is why out of his 6 runs, only 2 were earned.

Errors bit the Mets in the butt tonight. Even though they still would have lost without the unearned runs, errors start rallies and deflate teams as they kill momentum. Bad looking night tonight from this team.

I love how Ruben Tejada has looked since, well the end of last year. He shortened his swing and has been a great hitter. Any offense you can get out of a defender like that is great.

Jose Reyes is truly an amazing baseball player. I will miss him if this is indeed his final year as a Met.

Mets Post Game: Mets 6, Dodgers 1

The Numbers:

  1. Jason Bay broke out in a big way going 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs. The 3 RBIs came on a 2-out, bases-loaded double in the 8th.
  2. Ike Davis took a 53 MPH curveball out of the park for his 14th homer of the year. This was the slowest pitch to be hit for a home run this year in the bigs.
  3. David Wright went 0-for-4 with 3 strikeouts and an RBI.
  4. Luis Castillo batted second and went 1-for-4 with a walk and a run scored.
  5. Jose Reyes scored a run, got a hit, and stole a base.
  6. Johan Santana was brilliant tonight, pitching 7 innings of 1-run ball giving up 5 hits, 1 walk, and 4 strikeouts. He earned his 8th win of the year.
  7. Parnell and K-Rod combined for 2 perfect innings.

Jason Bay made me feel great tonight as he broke out of his offense slump. As Gary said, he got his first really memorable hit as a Met.

Johan Santana continued his to look great going 7 strong tonight. He is still our Ace and is showing no sign of going away.

The Mets offense was impressive, finally— this was their first game with 4-plus runs in 13 games. They also had their first multiple run inning in 60 innings.

Jerry better send out the same lineup tomorrow.
