Mets Post Game: Mets 6, Cardinals 5

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Angel Pagan hit his first career walk off homer in the 10th to win the game for the Mets.
  2. Josh Thole had 2 hits including 2 RBIs.
  3. Carlos Beltran hit a game tying 2 run homer for the Mets.

What a good game for Angel tonight. He had been in a little bit of a cold streak up until now and hitting that home run could really get him going on a hot streak.

The Mets truely fought for this game. Down 4-0 early and 5-4 late they really stepped up and came back to win this game.

Beltran is really heating up going into the trade deadline. Hopefully the Mets will get at least one great prospect for him.

Dickey pitched well tonight giving up 4 runs in 6 1/3 innings of work. Although his true bright spot was his 2 for 2 with an RBI at the plate.

Mets Post Game: Mets 11, Phillies 2

Box Score

3 Standout Performances

  1. Scott Hairston went 3 for 5 with 5 RBI including a 2nd deck 3 run homer.
  2. Daniel Murphy went 3 for 5 with a solo homer.
  3. Jon Niese went 7 innings, gave up 2 runs (1 earned), 6 hits, 1 walk, and 6 strikeouts.

My good friend who is a diehard Phillies fan, told me that Jon Niese can not be an ace pitcher in the big leagues. He showed today, that he can dominate a lineup with consistancy. I really like Niese.

Hairston today may have made Sandy Alderson’s job about what to do with Carlos Beltran a little easier today as he exploded with 5 RBI today. The last Met in my memory to hit a 2nd deck homer was Luis Castillo…that was a funny day.

Jason Bay today was really good. He got 2 hits and a stolen base. Just one hit at a time Bay…

I don’t understand how Daniel Murphy gets so much hate. The only thing wrong with his is that he can not field for his life. He is such a good hitter and should be starting daily when Wright and Reyes return.

Grade for the Game: A                  COME ON COLE!!!

Mets Post Game: Tigers 5, Mets 2

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Murphy went 2 for 4 with a homerun off Justin Verlander.
  2. Pelfrey started and went 4 2/3 innings and let up 8 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned, walked 5, and struck out 3.
  3. Reyes and Bay had 2 hits a piece.

Pelfrey flat out was terrible today. He did not have an out pitch. It was just foul ball after foul ball after foul ball. He didn’t throw inside at all and was afraid of his fastball.

Murphy is such an underrated hitter in the NL. He is over .300 with 5 homers this year. He is a great hitter.

The bullpen was great not allowing a run through 4 1/3 innings pitched.

Verlander was just too much for the Mets today. Go get the Yankees tomorrow.

Mets Post Game: Rangers 8, Mets 1

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Jason Bay went 3 for 4 with 3 singes.
  2. Manny Acosta gave up 4 runs in less than 2 innings.
  3. Ruben Tejada had an RBI single.

Pelfrey wasn’t terrible toinght, he gave up 3 of his runs in the first and then settled down a little bit walking only 2 on the night. He has really turned his season around from his rough start early in the year.

It was really good to see Jason Bay do very well again. Maybe it is just facing AL pitchers again. Remember he hit a homer (almost 2) against CLE earlier in the year and hit 2 against NYY last season. Very strange if you ask me.

Manny Acosta is simply a bad pitcher, no other way to say it.

Mets Post Game: A’s 7, Mets 3

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Jason Bay went 3 for 3 with a walk, triple, and Homer. He almost had 2 homers, but video review showed the ball hitting off Crisps glove, not the wall in center.
  2. Dillon Gee had no control tonight going 4 innings, letting up 4 runs, and walked 6.
  3. Jose Reyes went 0 for 5 with 5 flyballs.

Dillon Gee just could not throw a strike tonight. He only gave up 3 hits, just a ton of walks. This was his first bad start of the year.

The Mets walked 2 with the bases loaded. That is simply unacceptable…strikes are a MUST in today’s game.

Jason Bay could have broken out of his rut today. 3 hits and almost 2 home runs. Hopefully this will jumpstart his season for the Mets.

Mets Post Game: Braves 9, Mets 8 F/10

Changing the post game report for hopefully the last time. Hopefully this will give me more time for opinion and less stat oriented recaps. With the old format I felt like I was typing the box score which took too much time when it could just be linked in.  Tell me if you like it or not.

3 standout performances:

  1. R.A. Dickey struggled with his control all night giving up 6 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits while he walked 3 and struck out 4. His outing only lasted 4 innings.
  2. Jason Bay had 2 hits tonight including an RBI single.
  3. Scott Hairston had 2 hits including a game tying 3 run homer.

HONERABLE MEANTION: Jose Reyes went 3 for 6 with a triple and a steal.

Dickey had a lot of trouble with his knuckler tonight. He could not control where it went and that is how he got into 3 earned runs. He got into a 3-0 count with 3 knucklers on Chipper and he teed off on a fastball.

Bay had a good game tonight, he got a nice RBI hit through the right side and who knows, this could get him back on track.

That was a huge homer by Hairston tonight, got this team back in the game when they were down by 3.

You can’t be mad at K-Rod for the blown save, he hadn’t blown one since the second game of the season. He can have this one..I give him 0 blame for this one based on his great outings in save situations.

I know the bad play by Duda set the entire end of the game up, but who could  place full blame  for the game on him? I mean you can blame him because he made a mistake, but this was his 5th or so career start at first base. He is not used to what plays he can and can not make. I know he made 200 or so starts at first in the minors but, the major league games go so much faster he was trying to over compensate because of the fast runner going to first. His play did not set me off.

Now for Carrasco…oh no. This could get ugly. The first pitch to Heyward, first of all, should have been crushed, we got lucky on that swingthrough. He should have pitched around Heyward to pitch to the nobody third baseman who luckily hit a homer off K-Rod in Citi Field earlier. Now for the balk, It was terrible to balk in that situation. (No Duh!) You can’t flinch like that on the mound in that situation and a veteran like Carrasco should know that.

Mets Post Game: Mets 4, Braves 0

By the Numbers:

  • Gee Started and gave up 1 hit, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts over 4 innings. He had to come out due to the rain delay.
  • Angel Pagan had 2 hits including a 2 run homer that was helped by the gushing winds at Turner Field.
  • Jason Bay had 2 hits today. A step in the right direction!
  • Jose Reyes had a hit and an RBI groundout.
  • Ruben Tejada had an RBI on an error in the first.
  • Carrasco and Parnell each pitched 2 innings, Parnell struck out 5 batters out of 6 outs total.
  • K-Rod got another game finished pitching the 9th.

I felt awful for Gee this start, he looked great and was one inning away from a win. However, he still was great letting up only 1 hit over 4 innings. He was himself again and deserved a win, oh well.

Angel Pagan hit such a high homer tonight that would probably have not gone out if the wind was not swirling, good job anyways.

The bullpen dazzled tonight going 5 shutout innings. Parnell stood out the most because he had been struggling the most and he struck out 5 batters in 2 innings.

Jason Bay was great with his 2 hits tonight, could get him back on track…maybe.

Mets Post Game: Pirates 3, Mets 1

By the Numbers:

  • Mike Pelfrey went 7 innings, let up 4 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks, and 6 strikeouts.
  • Jose Reyes was hitless with a sac fly.
  • Daniel Murphy had 2 hits and is now hitting .305 on the year.
  • Tejada and Duda had a hit each.
  • Byrdak walked in the 3rd run with the bases loaded.

Mike Pelfrey was so good tonight, he retired 21 of his final 22 batters after giving up 3 hits to the first 3 batters of the game. He really settled down only giving up 1 homer to Brandon Wood.

Jose Reyes was robbed of a hit on his Sac fly, Duda ran the Mets out of the inning as he was doubled off first. This stopped the rally the Mets had going only resulting in 1 run for the inning.

Daniel Murphy just keeps hitting, and hitting, and hitting.

Tejada got another hit and made another great defensive play tonight, he is really playing well for the team.

Grade for the Game: B-

Mets Post Game: Mets 7, Pirates 0

By the Numbers:

  • Chris Capuano went 7 strong innings letting up 0 runs on 3 hits. He walked 2 and struck out 5.
  • Jose Reyes had another huge day going 3 for 5 with a solo homer.
  • Scott Hairston had a pinch hit solo homer back to back with Reyes.
  • Carlos Beltran had a 2 run single.
  • Daniel Murphy had 2 hits today.

Capuano was great today as he kept the pirates off balance and didn’t allow a run to score. He has been a great 5th starter.

Jose Reyes was Jose Reyes…again.

The play where Murphy scored on the sac fly was weird because it took awhile to notice that it was Pagan not Murphy that was called out, good thing they scored.

Murphy has been such an underrated hitter all year long and is second in the NL in batting average since May 21st, only lower than Reyes.

Back to back homers for what seemed like the first time all year just what this team needs!

The offense and rotation is rolling…this could be a very good stretch for this team.

Mets Post Game: Mets 8, Pirates 1

By the Numbers:

  • Dillon Gee went 8 magnificent innings letting up 8 hits, 1 run, no walks, and 5 strikeouts.
  • Jose Reyes went 3 for 5 with a solo homer.
  • Angel Pagan had a double, triple, and RBI tonight.
  • Justin Turner had a 2 run single.
  • Lucas Duda had an RBI single and Sac fly.
  • Josh Thole had 3 hits and an RBI.
  • Carlos Beltran also had an RBI and a hit.

Dillon Gee is just a great all around pitcher. He does not have ace like stuff but, he is surely pitching like an ace this year. He simply knows how to pitch and can execute even after a rough first. A 7-0 start for arguably the most underrated rookie on the season.

For some reason the Mets can rake against Charlie Morton when no other team can, now if only they could hit the ACTUAL Halladay…

Jose Reyes….you guys know the drill. AMAZING!

Josh Thole and Ruben Tejada have really turned it on this year hitting very well at positions the Mets were unsure of coming into the year.

Lucas Duda looks like a different hitter from earlier this year. He has so much power and he hit the ball so much harder than a 1 for 4 night tonight.

I love watching this non-power lineup for the Mets, getting hits with runners on has been where they have thrived during this good stretch for the offense. Power baseball is exciting, but line drives and singles can be great too.
