Jon Niese went 6 1/3 innings letting up 5 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
Jose Reyes had 3 singles and an RBI.
Willie Harris and Angel Pagan had a hit and 2 walks each.
Carlos Beltran had 2 hits and an RBI.
Tim Byrdak got 2 huge strikeouts to get the Mets out of a tricky 7th inning striking out McCann with runners on.
Izzy gave up a run in the 8th, but K-Rod through the 9th and got the save.
Niese was great once again, he got ground balls and kept the Braves hitters off balance all night long. He fell apart a little bit in the 7th and I was disappointed that Terry didn’t let him try and get out of it.
Those strikeouts by Byrdak were huge, especially the one from McCann, one of the best hitters in the NL. He bailed Niese and Beato out of that tough, tough inning.
Jose Reyes…Jose REYES….JOSE REYES
The Mets stole a ton off a tough Jurrjens today..he is usually very tough to steal off of.
It seems the Mets win so much easier when Bay isn’t in the lineup. It is a very sad thing.
Dillon Gee went 8 magnificent innings letting up 8 hits, 1 run, no walks, and 5 strikeouts.
Jose Reyes went 3 for 5 with a solo homer.
Angel Pagan had a double, triple, and RBI tonight.
Justin Turner had a 2 run single.
Lucas Duda had an RBI single and Sac fly.
Josh Thole had 3 hits and an RBI.
Carlos Beltran also had an RBI and a hit.
Dillon Gee is just a great all around pitcher. He does not have ace like stuff but, he is surely pitching like an ace this year. He simply knows how to pitch and can execute even after a rough first. A 7-0 start for arguably the most underrated rookie on the season.
For some reason the Mets can rake against Charlie Morton when no other team can, now if only they could hit the ACTUAL Halladay…
Jose Reyes….you guys know the drill. AMAZING!
Josh Thole and Ruben Tejada have really turned it on this year hitting very well at positions the Mets were unsure of coming into the year.
Lucas Duda looks like a different hitter from earlier this year. He has so much power and he hit the ball so much harder than a 1 for 4 night tonight.
I love watching this non-power lineup for the Mets, getting hits with runners on has been where they have thrived during this good stretch for the offense. Power baseball is exciting, but line drives and singles can be great too.
Jon Niese started and went 7 2/3 innings letting up 3 hits, 1 run, 4 walks, and 8 strikeouts.
Ruben Tejada had 2 hits including an RBI single.
Angel Pagan had 2 hits, an RBI single and a Triple.
Beltran and Turner had 2 hits each.
Murphy and Pridie had a hit and RBI each.
K-Rod got a 4 out save, striking out 2.
Jon Niese was great tonight tying his career high in strikeouts, working efficiently, and getting out of jams. His only problem was the 4 walks tonight and the RBI double by Fielder. He threw a career high in curveballs which was the key to his success tonight.
It’s kinda funny that Jose Reyes was the only hitless Met position player tonight.
The Mets are winning during this power outage because of key hitting, stealing bases, and their starting pitching. Entering the game since May 20th the Mets are 1st in batting average and 3rd in average with RISP. Homers mean nothing, runs do.
Ruben Tejada looks like a different hitter from last year, he is no longer overmatched at the plate and is showing that he could take the starting 2nd base spot when Wright and Ike return.
The Mets took 2 of 3 from the team with the best home record in baseball…now that is a statement.
Jon Niese started and went 5 innings letting up 7 hits, 6 runs (2 earned), 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts.
Jose Reyes had another good day knocking 2 hits and an RBI.
Paulino and Tejada each had 2 hits. Tejada almost hit another Wrigley Field homer.
Harris, Murphy, and Beltran all had hits.
Buchholz went 1 1/3 innings and lets up 2 runs (1 earned) while Pat Misch went 2/3 of an innings letting up 3 earned runs.
Jon Niese pitched in tough luck today. He gave up alot of bloop hits and almost catches by Met defenders. That is why out of his 6 runs, only 2 were earned.
Errors bit the Mets in the butt tonight. Even though they still would have lost without the unearned runs, errors start rallies and deflate teams as they kill momentum. Bad looking night tonight from this team.
I love how Ruben Tejada has looked since, well the end of last year. He shortened his swing and has been a great hitter. Any offense you can get out of a defender like that is great.
Jose Reyes is truly an amazing baseball player. I will miss him if this is indeed his final year as a Met.
Carlos Beltran was the star hitting 3 2-run homers as he drove in all but 3 of the Mets runs.
Jon Niese started and went 6 1/3 innings while letting up 5 runs, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
Josh Thole Hit a sac fly and Jose Reyes went 1 for 5 with a 2 run single.
Willie Harris had a hit and scored three times while Bay also had a hit.
O’Connor, Buchholz, Izzy, and K-Rod finished off the game.
Beltran and what he did tonight was great and really got me pumped up. He filled in great in the absence of Ike showing power from both sides of the plate. He is still a great hitter even with all the critisim he has gone through. If Terry is smart, he will continue to hit 3rd.
I feel bad for Niese, he pitched way better then his line showed. Even without a curveball he had only given up 2 or 3 runs before he was taken out. Simply a shame to me.
Jose Reyes’ bases loaded single was huge as the Mets usually struggle with the bases loaded.
Why was K-Rod in for the 9th? Byrdak was warming up and it was not a save situation. Do you wanna cost us $17.5MM Terry?
Mike Pelfrey went 6 2/3 innings and let up 6 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts. He also hit an RBI double from the plate.
Ike Davis had a hit which what a 2 run single in the 1st.
Izzy, Byrdak, and K-Rod all pitched scoreless outings tonight.
Jose Reyes hit a double while Paulino and Turner had base hits.
Daniel Murphy had 2 hits tonight.
Mike Pelfrey had a great outing tonight as he controlled all of his pitches. I am still personally not a fan of Mike Pelfrey, but he pitched well tonight and got the win.The runs he gave up were all on solo homers.
Now here is the play that I had a problem with. The play that Ike got hurt. Ike and Wright collided on a ball that was popped in the air in front of the pitchers mound. Ike hurt his calf, however the collision was not the problem to me. Pelfrey was the problem. Pelfrey should have either fielded the ball OR helped Ike and Wright out and told them they were near eachother. What did he do? He stood there, and watched. Help out your team mates Pelf.
Tim Byrdak pitched great as he got Helton on a 3 pitch strikeout to end the 8th.
What a strange at bat right after the rain delay. The at-bat consisted of 2 pitchers, and 2 hitters. It was Pelfrey vs. Fowler before the rain delay, then after it was Izzy vs. Fowler. Fowler fouled a ball off his knee and came out of the game so it was Izzy vs. Spilborghs in one at bat. Weird Stuff.
Chris Capuano went 6 2/3 innings tonight and lets up 5 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
Murphy and David Wright each had a hit.
Ike Davis had 2 hits.
Jason Bay did not record a hit, but hit an RBI groundout where he reached base. However, the play was ruled as an error.
Buchholz and Byrdak combined for 1 1/3 scoreless.
As I say everytime that Capuano pitches, he is a great 5th starter as he kept the Mets in the game again. He struggled in the 1st, but really settled down afterwards. I was shaky with him at first in the rotation, but now I think I’ve grown to like him.
There was one play where Murphy was thrown out at the plate when it was clearly safe. Is it just me or do those plays always go against the Mets. Maybe it is just me.
Willie Harris got a lucky hit and I thought, “Oh good this could break him out!” About 1 minute later he tried to steal 2nd down by a run and was thrown out by a mile. Let’s just say a certain Metsnewsnow blogger felt like punching a hole in the wall, but didn’t. ANYWAYS, there is no excuse to stealing there unless you know that you will be safe. Uncalled for there.
