Mets Post Game: Mets 8, Reds 6

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Jason Pridie went 2 for 5 with the go-ahead 2 run double that ultimately won the game for the Mets.
  2. Tim Byrdak struck out Jay Bruce for the last out of the game for his first save since 2007 and his 4th career save.
  3. Jon Niese let up 5ER in 5 innings and struck out 5. He won his 10th game of the year tonight.

Jon Niese basically had one bad inning tonight. He gave up a 4-run 5th that basically ruined his night. He still got to 10 wins this year which is huge seeing how he started this year.

Jason Pridie had a great game today. He basically won the game for the Mets with his bat filling in for Angel Pagan.

Daniel Murphy is a sensational hitter. If they can find a spot to put his glove in the outfield, he has all-star potential in my opinion.

This team has made the defending NL central champs look bad, especially on defense.

Mets Post Game: Mets 4, Reds 2

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Jason Bay 1 for 3 with an RBI double, his first double in 186 at-bats.
  2. Daniel Murphy hit 2 doubles including a go-ahead 2 run double.
  3. Dickey pitched into the 7th inning and let up 2 runs while striking out 7.

Dickey was great tonight. He had good control all night and kept the reds hitters off balance.

Murphy is such a good hitter. What I like the most about him is that he drives pitches where they are in the zone. For your second year in the league, it is very impressive that he can perform like this.

Bay with his first double since May 15th…wow.

Grade for the Game: B+

Mets Post Game: Reds 3, Mets 1

What’s Important:

Hitting:

  1. Angel Pagan drove in the only Mets run with a 1st inning home run, his 6th of the year.
  2. Josh Thole got 2 hits and a walk tonight to help the Mets try to score.
  3. Ike Davis hit a 415 foot double to lead off the 9th for the Mets but could not score.

Pitching:

  1. Jon Niese pitched 7 2/3 of amazing baseball for the Mets tonight. He gave up 3 runs and struck out 8 batters.
  2. Elmer Dessens pitched a scoreless 9th inning giving up 0 hits.
  3. Bobby Parnell did not give up a run in the 8th as he finished the inning for Niese.

Grade for the Game: B-

Jon Niese was simply great tonight and that is the only reason this got a good great. 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position won’t do any good. Bronson Arroyo does it again…

Mets Post Game: Mets 3, Red 0

What’s Important:

Hitting:

  1. Johan Santana was tired of the no run support so he decided to have a 12 pitch AB and hit his first career home run to get himself a run. Also, good job by Gary Cohen calling it saying that he is going to hit one soon.
  2. Jason Bay hit a big 2 run, 2 out single to give Johan some insurance.
  3. Jose Reyes went 2 for 4 in his first game since his side injury and brought speed back to the lineup.

Pitching:

  1. Johan Santana was just spectacular tonight going 9 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks, and 5 strikeouts. This was his first complete game shutout since the second to last game of the year in 2008.
  2. There is nothing to say because no one else pitched tonight.

Grade for the Game: A+

Johan Santana had his best game of the year tonight with his shutout. Also, how often does a player end up tops in the hitting and pitching category. That means it was a good night. Bay was good and so was Wright in this game. But, all attention goes to Santana.

Mets Post Game: Reds 8, Mets 6

I can not give a full post game report tonight as I am busy and got home late but, I will give you some highlights.

The Mets were down 7-1 at one point in this game and had a 5 run 5th inning.

Angel Pagan hit his 5th homer of the year.

Mike Pelfrey pitched 4 2/3 innings and was rattled emotionally for the first time this year.

Alex Cora hit a big 2 run double to get the Mets within 1.

Nieve pitched good for the first time in a long time for 3 innings.

Grade for the Game:C
