Mets Post Game: Braves 7, Mets 5

Box Score

3 Standout Performances

  1. Lucas Duda went 2 for 4 with an opposite field homer.
  2. Jordany Valdespin went 2 for 4 with an RBI.
  3. Parnell and Edgin had a scoreless inning each.

Lucas Duda has had a phenomenal spring so far. He is hitting with power to all fields and running good counts.

Valdespin looked fairly comfortable in center field today. His bat is not the question, the question is whether or not he can play center field.

Bobby Parnell has been the 2nd biggest surprise of the spring for me. He has really looked like a pitcher, not a thrower.

If I remember correctly, Wright wasn’t supposed to start today…I guess he feels THAT good and that is a good sign.

Mets Post Game: Mets 2, Marlins 1

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. R.A. Dickey started game 1 and went 7 strong innings letting up 7 hits and 0 runs. He struck out 6.
  2. Jason Isringhausen went 1 inning and struck out the side.
  3. Lucas Duda went 3 for 4 with a run scored.

Dickey was great tonight at one point striking out 4 Marlins in a row. Hopefully his knuckler threw off the Marlins for game 2.

Bobby Parnell got the save, but he TRIED to blow it giving up a home run in the 9th inning. He looks to have learned from Krod.

Lucas Duda is raking at the plate.

Mets Post Game: Marlins 5, Mets 4

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. David Wright went 3 for 4 with a 2 run homer.
  2. Bobby Parnell gave up 3 hits and 2 runs in an inning.
  3. Jason Bay hit an RBI single.

Gee really settled down after a rough start. His control was rough, but he fought through it to get through the game pitching alright.

David Wright came back on fire. He had 6 hits in this 3 game series against the Marlins including a go-ahead homer tonight.

Jose Reyes…..Every day.

Bobby Parnell was afraid to throw his slider today. He threw all fastballs and got hit very hard today.

Mets Trade K-Rod to the Brewers

The Mets and Brewers announced today that they have completed a trade for closer Francisco Rodriguez and cash for 2 players to be named later. K-Rod will be the new Brewers set-up man.The Mets will get to pick 2 players from a pool of guys to complete the trade.

This is one contract that the Mets needed to get rid of. We could not allow ourselves to pay K-Rod 17.5MM in 2012 because he finished 55 games this season. I have a feeling that Sandy is going to pick 2 great young guys to finish the trade. As for the closers role, Izzy, I believe will not get it. He is too old and can not take the innings. I believe it is in-between Parnell and Beato. I would like to see Beato, however I believe Parnell will be the new closer of the Mets. The white flag has not yet been waved by Alderson. Best of luck to K-Rod in Milwaulkee. Lets Go Mets!

Mets Post Game: Mets 5, Dodgers 3

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Jon Niese pitched 7 strong innings letting up 3 runs on 5 hits and striking out 6 Dodgers. He only walked 1 on the night.
  2. Ruben Tejada hit a 2 run double off Kuroda which proved to be the winning run for the Mets.
  3. Lucas Duda had 2 hits including an RBI double.

Jon Niese was great tonight. He kept hitters off balance with his curve and cutter and was impeccable with his control. He is a great left handed pitcher.

Carlos Beltran is now the NL leader in doubles. One of my good friends who is a Phillies fan was arguing that Victorino deserved it more than Beltran. That one stat proves Beltran is an all-star.

Bobby Parnell has some of the dirtiest stuff in the national league. He throws 100MPH fastballs and throws a slider at 90-92 with great movement. If he gains control over all of his pitches, he can be a dominant reliever.

If Ruben Tejada can hit at all in the big leagues, he will be a great everyday starter.

Mets Post Game: Mets 4, Braves 0

By the Numbers:

  • Gee Started and gave up 1 hit, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts over 4 innings. He had to come out due to the rain delay.
  • Angel Pagan had 2 hits including a 2 run homer that was helped by the gushing winds at Turner Field.
  • Jason Bay had 2 hits today. A step in the right direction!
  • Jose Reyes had a hit and an RBI groundout.
  • Ruben Tejada had an RBI on an error in the first.
  • Carrasco and Parnell each pitched 2 innings, Parnell struck out 5 batters out of 6 outs total.
  • K-Rod got another game finished pitching the 9th.

I felt awful for Gee this start, he looked great and was one inning away from a win. However, he still was great letting up only 1 hit over 4 innings. He was himself again and deserved a win, oh well.

Angel Pagan hit such a high homer tonight that would probably have not gone out if the wind was not swirling, good job anyways.

The bullpen dazzled tonight going 5 shutout innings. Parnell stood out the most because he had been struggling the most and he struck out 5 batters in 2 innings.

Jason Bay was great with his 2 hits tonight, could get him back on track…maybe.

Grade for the Game: A

Mets Post Game: Pirates 5, Mets 1

By the Numbers:

  • R.A. Dickey went 7 2/3 strong innings giving up 5 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 10 strikeouts. Through 7 he had allowed 2 hits 0 runs and struck out 9.
  • Pagan and Murphy had 2 hits each today.
  • Jason Bay had an RBI single in the first inning, however the ball went 40 ft.
  • Bobby Parnell struggled in his return giving up 2 runs in 2/3 of an inning.
  • The bottom 4 of the lineup went hitless tonight.

Dickey was so much better than his line tonight. He did not at all deserve the loss tonight. 2 hits thorough 7 innings was just spectacular and he struck out a career high 10 batters. This looks like the Dickey from 2010.

Parnell still let down the Mets tonight, I do not know what is wrong with him. He has good stuff but he is a thrower not a pitcher.

It is really great to see Pagan back into form after returning from the DL. He is a huge part to this team.

This team can not hit a homer anymore.

Grade for the Game: B-

Mets Post Game: Astros 6, Mets 1

The Numbers:

  • Niese started tonight and pitched okay going 6 innings, letting up 2 runs, 5 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
  • Carlos Beltran hit is 3rd home run of the year.
  • Pagan and Ike both hit doubles.
  • Beato and Buchholz pitched a scoreless inning each.
  • Igarashi, Byrdak, and Parnell combined for 1 inning, 5 hits, 3 runs, and a balk.

Until he proves it to me, Beltran has no power from the left side anymore.

Niese had control issues all game and went way over 100 pitches to get through 6 which I really like.

Now for Bobby Parnell…what are we going to do with you? That balk just pushed me over the line of frustration with the way this team is playing. Why in your right mind would you come into a bases loaded 2 out situation and BALK in a run. I mean that is minor league play. Then letting up more hits and a few more runs inexcusable. Parnell didn’t have the only crappy play of the night either. Scott Hairston flat out dropped a ball in left field off the bat of Carlos Lee that might have saved a run. Errors by outfielders are simply uncalled for more than infielders in my mind. Now for the umpires, the play at second base where they called it an out and a drop on the transfer was simply bull. There was no way that was a catch, get some sense umps. That is one instance where I would be fine letting my manager get thrown out of a game.

Grade for the Game: F

Mets Post Game: Rockies 7, Mets 6

The Numbers:

  • Mike Pelfrey started and went 5 1/3 innings letting up 6 hits, 4 runs (3 earned), 4 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
  • Jose Reyes had 2 hits tonight, both of which were triples.
  • David Wright had 2 hits tonight also including an opposite field home run.
  • Every Met position player had least one hit tonight.
  • Izzy pitched 2/3 of an inning in his 2nd Mets debut and gave up 0 hits and 0 runs.
  • Bobby Parnell was terrible tonight going 1 inning, 3 hits, 3 runs, and 2 strikeouts.

Bobby Parnell was awful in all aspects tonight. He did not throw enough strikes, threw a wild pitch, and gave up a huge error that ultimately lost the game for the Mets.

Wright, Reyes, and Ike are on fire. Each contributing in their own ways.

Pelfrey looked better tonight even though it took him 113 pitches to get to the 6th inning. He didn’t throw enough strikes and walked too many.

Beato looked good tonight as he has the whole year.
