Ike Davis is still struggling. There is no going around it but something needs to change if he is to get things together and to be successful in the big leagues. In order for Ike to get things right, he needs to hit 2nd in the lineup. Hitting 2nd puts Ike right in front of David Wright. This will get him good pitches to hit and less breaking balls because guys don’t want to walk him to get to David. Batting in front of Thole, pitchers pitch him to get him out. If he is in front of Wright, pitchers will throw to him like they don’t want to throw to Wright with guys on base. This could help Ike get his season, and potentially his career back on track.

Finally! NO-HAN! Johan Santana throws the first no-hitter in Mets history.
Each and every game in Mets history had one thing in common. Whether it was to lead off the game, the 5th inning, or with 2 outs in the 9th, the opposing team always found a way to muster up a base hit off Mets pitching. 8019 games later, that is no longer true. Johan Santana has thrown the first no-hitter in Mets history.
All through spring training, and up to today experts have been saying, “He’s washed up” “He’s not healthy” “He isn’t the same pitcher he used to be” We shouldn’t be hearing those voices anymore. This man is a bulldog topping a career high with 130 and I think he would have killed Terry Collins if he had tried to take him out of the game. One thing people aren’t talking about is that this is his second consecutive shutout. Simply dominant.
Johan could not do this alone, however, he had help from his bats and Mike Baxter. Johan usually gets no run support and tonight he got 8 runs, that made it easier on him, and on Terry Collins. Second, Mike Baxter sacrificed himself, his shoulder, and potentially his season to make the catch for Johan and that is absolutely incredible.
Every Mets fan felt the same way that I did, we all thought this wouldn’t happen. But it did and I could not be more excited. This must be what it feels like to watch them win a world championship. Unbelievable. Congrats Johan! Lets go Mets!
The Mets need a bullpen overhaul.
The Mets bullpen have struggled beyond belief as of late. The reason for this is simple, its a group of pretty much nobodies. Don’t get me wrong, various members have been great such as Byrdak, Rauch, Parnell, and even Francisco at points. However, we have had Acosta, Ramirez, Schwinden, and Egbert. Schwinden and Egbert? Does anyone besides Mets fans recognize those two besides their families? Anyways, here is the solution, Acosta is already gone, and now Schwinden and Egbert also need to be gone. Their replacements, Elvin Ramirez and Jenrry Mejia.
Tim Byrdak has been overworked this year, by a lot. Ramirez was supposed to suffice for that, however he has seen lefties hit .333 against him so far this year. The solution lies in the 2010 stats of Jenrry Mejia. In 2010, Jenrry Mejia held lefties to a .203 batting average and righties to a .340. This could take the load off some lefties and act like a second lefty out of the pen. Furthermore, Elvin Ramirez is ready. He has dominated AAA so far this year and I am excited to see him in the bigs next year. These two moves could easily fix our bullpen.
Matt Harvey is Ready
Tonight, Matt Harvey proved to me that he is ready for the big leagues and it gets me excited beyond belief. His line tonight was, 6 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 4 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Over his past five or six starts he has shown growth, maturity, determination, and dominance posting an ERA under 3 and not losing a decision in any of those starts. Matt shows something that the Mets don’t have, a power arm as a starter who has the ability to strike out 10 nightly. Well Dickey is capable of those strikeout numbers, but he is in another world right now. All of the Mets starters throw in the low 90s and rely on breaking stuff. Harvey can blow a fastball by someone at 95 and get you out with a nasty slider. I give it one more good start by Harvey and/or a bad start by Hefner until he is up for the Mets.
Mike Pelfrey to undergo Tommy John surgery….Darn
MIke Pelfrey is gone for about 12 months as it was announced today that he will undergo Tommy John surgery. To his defense, Pelfrey was pitching so well this season as he had great velocity and movement on his sinker. However, this could end up as a good thing. Chris Schwinden is up to replace Pelfrey in the rotation and he is not the best of pitchers. This could open up a door for Matt Harvey in the big leagues as soon as he is ready. Also, Pelf needed a new start, and this could get him that on a different team. He never seemed to thrive in the big city. I think he could be a great fit for a team like the A’s or Padres.
Mets Post Game: Mets 3, Marlins 2
3 Standout Performances:
- Kirk Nieuwenhuis went 3 for 5 with a triple and a walk-off RBI single.
- Jon Niese went 7 innings, let up 4 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks, and 6 strikeouts.
- Justin Turner had a 14 pitch walk to tie the game in the 9th.
I was at school, however looking a the ball-strike ratio and the other numbers, NIese looked like he was in complete control and had only a few minor hiccups throughout the game.
That at-bat by Turner was the best at-bat that I have seen in a long time. He didn’t swing at any bad pitches and made Bell beat himself.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis has been so good since he came up. He knows how to hit and doesn’t try to overuse his abilities.
Grade for the Game: A-
Mets Post Game: Mets 5, Marlins 1
3 Standout Performances:
- David Wright went 1 for 3 with a two run homer that made him the Mets all time leader in RBIs.
- R.A. Dickey went 7 innings, let up 3 hits, 1 walk, and 7 strikeouts.
- Lucas Duda went 2 for 4 with an RBI single.
Congrats to David. He deserved the Mets all time RBI lead. It came after a Reyes throw prolonged the inning so it was even sweeter.
R.A. Dickey had an incredible knuckleball tonight. You can’t take his last start as a gauge for how he is due to the rain. He is the one pitcher who I don’t want to see pitching in the rain.
Duda is really starting to find his swing hitting the ball hard every at-bat. He could have had 3 hits, however he had one robbed.
The bullpen has looked great. Every single pitcher does there job each night.

What went Wrong?
The Mets had been playing so well. We were doing everything right. However, in the past two games, things have gone south. The offense has gone nowhere, the lineup is still working counts and producing runs. However, the pitching and defense had let us down. Coming into this series, we had the 2nd lowest ERA in baseball, I’m sure that title is gone. Our starters have had two rough outings in a row and our bullpen has had a lot of work, which also didn’t help much. Another problem is the defense. Not just errors, but bone-headed plays. For example, the bunt that Ike threw away yesterday, he should have gone to 3rd base. With Johan struggling that much, take the free out and move on. He needed every out that he could get. If we fix these things, we can get back on track very quickly.
Mets Post Game: Mets 6, Braves 1
3 Standout Performances:
- Dillon Gee pitched great tonight going 7 innings, let up 4 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts.
- Ike Davis hit a huge 3 run homer to give the Mets the lead off Hanson.
- Jason Bay robbed a homer from Jack Wilson, and hit one of his own in the 9th.
Dillon Gee was spectacular tonight. I was most impressed when he was in a jam in the 7th. He is a change up pitcher, however he got two crucial outs on strikeouts with his fastball. The kid knows how to pitch.
Ike seems to be getting his stride back as he hit his 2nd homer in as many games. Hanson threw him 5 straight curveballs in an at bat and Ike simply drove the 5th one out.
Jason is no where close to back yet. However, he is getting out of constant booing. He plays a great left field and still has some pop. Hopefully this will continue.
David Wright got on base twice for the 7th straight game, he has been on fire.
Thats 2 more scoreless for the bullpen. Alderson has done well here.
Everyone should just break their fingers…it helps apparently.

Mets Post Game: Mets 4, Nationals 3
3 Standout Performances:
- Kirk Nieuwenhuis went 1 for 3 with his first homer of his career.
- Daniel Murphy went 2 for 5 with a walk off RBI.
- Mike Pelfrey went 5 2/3 innings let up 10 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk, and 8 strikeouts.
Mike Pelfrey looked way better that he did all of last year. His pitches had so much movement tonight and he had incredible velocity. There was one sinker he threw that was so good it was simply unfair. I am very pleased with this start from Pelfrey.
Daniel Murphy has so many haters but he is such a good player. He hits line drives and plays an adequate 2nd base.
Ruben Tejada has been a better leadoff hitter this year than Jose Reyes because of his at-bats. He has an amazing eye for the strike zone and has long turns at the plate.
I’m starting to worry about Ike Davis. Hopefully an off day tomorrow will do wonders.
The bullpen has been untouchable this year after an awful spring. Hopefully this can keep up.
Congrats to Kirk on the first career homer. I really like the player that he has a chance to become.
4-0 WOW. Lets Go Mets!!
