Mets Post Game: Mets 6, Nationals 3

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Lucas Duda hit a bomb into the upper deck of Nationals Park, a game tying shot for his 9th homer of the year.
  2. Willie Harris hit a pinch hit 2 run single to give the Mets the lead.
  3. In his big league debut Josh Satin went 1 for 2 with a single.

I don’t know what to say about Mike Pelfrey. The one plus over his last couple of starts have been his fastball velocity. It has been climbing back up into 95-97 range as of late. However, he still does not have a put away pitch in his arsenal. I still think he should use his curve more.

Ruben Tejada is making a case here that he can hit at this level.

Josh Stinson was great out of the bullpen again going 2 innings today showing poise as a relief pitcher.

Congrats to Josh Satin on his first big league hit.

Mets Post Game: Mets 3, Marlins 2

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Jason Bay actually had a quality-ish game going 3 for 4 with an RBI single.
  2. Lucas Duda had only 1 hit which was a clutch RBI single to give the Mets the lead.
  3. David Wright hit 2 doubles tonight while scoring a run.

Chris Capuano really struggled tonight being lucky that he gave up 2 runs in his start throwing 100 pitches in 5 innings. It was a very bad start, but he did a great job fighting through it.

Jason Bay got lucky tonight. He got an RBI hit off the pitcher, a swinging bunt, and one solid single. Whatever works for you Jason, whatever works man…

Jose Reyes got 2 lucky hits tonight, but has still not been his first half self as of yet.

The Dude (Lucas Duda) was so clutch tonight with his single to give the Mets the lead. I have a feeling he might win the 2012 job this month.

Mets Post Game: Mets 5, Padres 4 F/10

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  • Josh Thole went 3 for 3 with his 3rd home run of the season.
  • Lucas Duda hit his 5th homer of the year and made a great play reaching into the stands to steal a foul ball from a fan.
  • Jason Isringhausen pitched the bottom of the 10th and struck out 1 in a rough inning for his 300th career save.

Congrats to Izzy on the save tonight. He really brought his career full circle getting his 1st save with the Mets and now getting his 300th. Really special moment for Izzy and the Mets.

Lucas Duda has really come into his own as a ball player. He killed a ball into the right field seats at Petco.

Josh Thole has turned it on as of late and is starting to look like the hitter that I thought he would be all year. He needs to prove something before the Mets decide to replace him.

Bobby Parnell has really struggled as of late. That guy really needs to learn how to pitch..not throw.

Mets Post Game: Marlins 7, Mets 3 F/10

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Jason Bay went 1 for 4 with his first homer in over 6 weeks.
  2. Lucas Duda hit a game tying 2 run homer with 2 outs in the 9th inning off Leo Nunez.
  3. Manny Acosta pitched 2 hitless innings and struck out 4.

Pelfrey pitched great tonight going 6 innings and letting up 3 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits. He has really had his sinker working lately. I do not like the 3 walks tonight.

The Mets technically could have won tonight if Jose Reyes was not thrown out of the plate. Not saying that would have happened, but we did have a runner thrown out at the plate.

Lucas Duda has really turned it on lately. Leo Nunez should cower at the name Lucas Duda, he has hit 2 bombs off him.

What a big boy of Jason Bay to hit a homer off Javi Vazquez. I think he has hit more opposite field homers at Citi Field that he has pulled the ball.

Mets Post Game: Cardinals 6, Mets 2

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. In possibly his last home game as a Met, Carlos Beltran went 0 for 3 with a strikeout.
  2. Lucas Duda had 2 hits and a run scored.
  3. Niese went 6 innings, let up 5 hits, 5 runs (3 earned), 1 walk, and 7 strikeouts.

Niese pitched so much better than his line showed. He let up 3 runs in the 5th inning due to stupid-minded defensive plays and errors. He has matured so much on the mound this year.

Jose Reyes tried to ignite this Mets offense by hitting a lead off triple and scored to put the Mets on the board. However, as soon as he scored, the offense just slowed back down.

Jake Westbrook had the Mets pounding the ball into the ground all day long. He was very economical with his pitches tonight.

Mets Post Game: Mets 5, Dodgers 3

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Jon Niese pitched 7 strong innings letting up 3 runs on 5 hits and striking out 6 Dodgers. He only walked 1 on the night.
  2. Ruben Tejada hit a 2 run double off Kuroda which proved to be the winning run for the Mets.
  3. Lucas Duda had 2 hits including an RBI double.

Jon Niese was great tonight. He kept hitters off balance with his curve and cutter and was impeccable with his control. He is a great left handed pitcher.

Carlos Beltran is now the NL leader in doubles. One of my good friends who is a Phillies fan was arguing that Victorino deserved it more than Beltran. That one stat proves Beltran is an all-star.

Bobby Parnell has some of the dirtiest stuff in the national league. He throws 100MPH fastballs and throws a slider at 90-92 with great movement. If he gains control over all of his pitches, he can be a dominant reliever.

If Ruben Tejada can hit at all in the big leagues, he will be a great everyday starter.

Mets Post Game: Pirates 3, Mets 1

By the Numbers:

  • Mike Pelfrey went 7 innings, let up 4 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks, and 6 strikeouts.
  • Jose Reyes was hitless with a sac fly.
  • Daniel Murphy had 2 hits and is now hitting .305 on the year.
  • Tejada and Duda had a hit each.
  • Byrdak walked in the 3rd run with the bases loaded.

Mike Pelfrey was so good tonight, he retired 21 of his final 22 batters after giving up 3 hits to the first 3 batters of the game. He really settled down only giving up 1 homer to Brandon Wood.

Jose Reyes was robbed of a hit on his Sac fly, Duda ran the Mets out of the inning as he was doubled off first. This stopped the rally the Mets had going only resulting in 1 run for the inning.

Daniel Murphy just keeps hitting, and hitting, and hitting.

Tejada got another hit and made another great defensive play tonight, he is really playing well for the team.

Mets Post Game: Mets 8, Pirates 1

By the Numbers:

  • Dillon Gee went 8 magnificent innings letting up 8 hits, 1 run, no walks, and 5 strikeouts.
  • Jose Reyes went 3 for 5 with a solo homer.
  • Angel Pagan had a double, triple, and RBI tonight.
  • Justin Turner had a 2 run single.
  • Lucas Duda had an RBI single and Sac fly.
  • Josh Thole had 3 hits and an RBI.
  • Carlos Beltran also had an RBI and a hit.

Dillon Gee is just a great all around pitcher. He does not have ace like stuff but, he is surely pitching like an ace this year. He simply knows how to pitch and can execute even after a rough first. A 7-0 start for arguably the most underrated rookie on the season.

For some reason the Mets can rake against Charlie Morton when no other team can, now if only they could hit the ACTUAL Halladay…

Jose Reyes….you guys know the drill. AMAZING!

Josh Thole and Ruben Tejada have really turned it on this year hitting very well at positions the Mets were unsure of coming into the year.

Lucas Duda looks like a different hitter from earlier this year. He has so much power and he hit the ball so much harder than a 1 for 4 night tonight.

I love watching this non-power lineup for the Mets, getting hits with runners on has been where they have thrived during this good stretch for the offense. Power baseball is exciting, but line drives and singles can be great too.

Mets Send Down Boyer, Duda, Call up Isringhausen, Igarashi

Today after the game, the Mets announced that Blane Boyer and Lucas Duda were headed to the Minor Leagues and Izzy and Igarashi were going to Queens. I like both moves because Lucas has not been hitting and Boyer has not been pitching well. The bullpen has been overworked the past week so why not get another reliever up here. Good moves, WELCOME BACK IZZY.

Mets Post Game: Mets 6, Red Sox 5

The Numbers:

  • Jon Niese started today going 3.2 innings, giving up 4 hits, and 2 runs. He struck out 4 and walked none.
  • K-Rod, Igarashi, and Bonser each contributed a scoreless inning of relief.
  • Ike Davis hit his first homer of the spring, a 2 run shot.
  • Angel Pagan and Scott Hairston each hit doubles and Daniel Murphy had an RBI.
  • Lucas Duda hit a go ahead home run to secure the win.
