Why is Wright Hitting Cleanup?

Over the past 2 days, Jerry has changed-up the lineup, and I love what he has done—for the most part. Only one lineup switch bothers me; Wright in the cleanup spot. He is not a cleanup hitter, he is a 3- or 5-hole hitter. I know that he is a major offensive asset no matter where he is, I’m afraid as a cleanup hitter he will re-develop his uppercut. I like to think of Wright as a line-drive hitter who runs into home runs. The 4 spot is for a power hitter like Davis or Beltran, not Wright. I think that has something to do with his recent struggles. My prediction: Wright will break out of his recent struggles almost immediately after he is moved. I would bat him 5th in the current lineup.

Mets Lineup has Returned

With Castillo being activated today, the Met lineup will be “complete” for the first time since late May of last year. Beltran and Reyes are back in and this lineup can now put up a lot of runs. Here is the Mets lineup tonight:

  1. Reyes
  2. Pagan
  3. Wright
  4. Beltran
  5. Davis
  6. Bay
  7. Barajas
  8. Castillo
  9. Pelfrey

With Luis Castillo as an 8th place hitter, he can do some damage. This lineup can put up a lot of runs. So he can play everyday, Tejada has been sent down to AAA Buffalo. I am excited to watch the game tonight!

The Impact of Reyes and Beltran Back Together

As most have heard, tonight will be the first time in about a year and a half that Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran will be in the lineup together. The speed of Reyes and the power of Beltran will make the pitchers make mistakes and get other batters like Wright, Davis, and Bay better pitches to hit. Even though in my opinion, Bay could not hit a hanging slider right now, he will still get more of them. Just thinking of a lineup with 6 potential all-stars in the first 6 spots in the order makes me think of playoffs. Reyes and Beltran will give this lineup excitement and much-needed RBIs. The Mets lineup will be as scary as the Phillies, maybe ever Yankees lineup with this set of men on the field. The run to the playoffs starts NOW. Watch out Atlanta.
