Mets Post Game: Mets 5, Padres 4 F/10

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  • Josh Thole went 3 for 3 with his 3rd home run of the season.
  • Lucas Duda hit his 5th homer of the year and made a great play reaching into the stands to steal a foul ball from a fan.
  • Jason Isringhausen pitched the bottom of the 10th and struck out 1 in a rough inning for his 300th career save.

Congrats to Izzy on the save tonight. He really brought his career full circle getting his 1st save with the Mets and now getting his 300th. Really special moment for Izzy and the Mets.

Lucas Duda has really come into his own as a ball player. He killed a ball into the right field seats at Petco.

Josh Thole has turned it on as of late and is starting to look like the hitter that I thought he would be all year. He needs to prove something before the Mets decide to replace him.

Bobby Parnell has really struggled as of late. That guy really needs to learn how to pitch..not throw.

Mets Post Game: Giants 3, Mets 1

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Capuano started and was great. He went 6 innings, let up 2 runs on 4 hits with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts.
  2. Daniel Murphy went 1 for 4 with an RBI double.
  3. Josh Thole went 1 for 2 with a double.

Capuano was great tonight. After a rough first inning of getting the ball stung, he really settled down and kept the giants at bay. I honestly thought after the first inning tonight, he was in for a 3 or 4 inning start. Very tough loss for Capuano tonight.

All of the Mets hits tonight were 2 out doubles. Kind of strange how things work out that way.

The rules with aces are that if you don’t get to them in the first, you probably won’t get to him at all. This happened tonight as the Mets got 1 run off Lincecum in the first, however it was not enough as he shut them down for the rest of his start.

Grade for the Game: B

Sidenote:

Congrats to Derek Jeter on his 3000th career hit and an outstanding game. Being a baseball fan, I really enjoy that type of history. Also, Jeter is one of the few Yankees I have respect for, he’s a classy guy who plays the game the right way even during the steroid era. Send all the hate you want, I am happy for Jeter.

Mets Post Game: Mets 9, Phillies 5

By the Numbers:

  • Jon Niese started and was great going 6 1/3 innings letting up 5 hits. 1 run (0 earned), 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts.
  • Jose Reyes had 4 hits, an RBI, and 2 triples today.
  • Josh Thole and Daniel Murphy each had 3 hits. Thole had 3 RBI while Murph had one.
  • Turner and Bay had 2 hits a piece.
  • Tejada had an RBI hit as did Angel Pagan.
  • The bullpen struggled as Buchholz gave up 3 runs and Beato gave up 1.

Jon Niese was great today throwing a career high 122 pitches. He got out of all of the jams he pitched into only faltering after a Reyes error.

Speaking of Reyes, as Gary Cohen said we are running out of adjectives to describe Jose and the price grows higher every day. He had yet another great game.

Thole had a huge day breaking out of a long slump he also did not strikeout. Whatever tinkering he did with his swing, it worked.

The bullpen is in a rut right now. It just gives up run after run almost blowing an 8 run lead today. If they don’t straighten up, this team will not win games.

I feel Bay getting into a hot streak now with 2 straight games with RBI hits.

Mets Post Game: Nationals 4, Mets 3

The Numbers:

  • Chris Capuano started for the Mets and went 5 2/3 innings. He let up 10 hits, 4 runs, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts.
  • Byrdak pitched a scoreless 1/3 of an inning and Beato pitched 2 scoreless innings.
  • Ike Davis went 2 for 4 with an RBI double.
  • Reyes had 2 hits a double and a sac fly and David Wright went 0 for 4 with an RBI groundout.
  • Josh Thole had 3 hits.

Chris Capuano tonight was good for a 5th starter as he kept the Mets in the game. I like how he did not walk anyone, but was concerned over the 10 hits.

Ike Davis is hitting over .350 and it’s almost the end of April.

The Mets are still playing well, but just missed out today. 1 hit with RISP and they win today’s game.

The winning streak had to end sometime, let’s start a new one in Philly!

Grade for the Game: B

Mets Post Game: Mets 6, Nationals 4

The Numbers:

  • Chris Young started and went 4 2/3 innings while letting up 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
  • Ike Davis went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 runs scored.
  • Jason Bay went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored.
  • Murphy and Beltran both hit doubles.
  • Thole hit the game winning go ahead double in the 6th to get the Mets a lead.
  • Pridie had 2 hits and Wright hit an RBI groundout.
  • Igarashi pitched 1/3 scoreless innings and Buchholz pitched 2 scoreless.
  • Izzy pitched an inning and gave up a run. K-Rod nailed it down in the 9th.

I was the most impressed today about Beltran. His double in my mind should have been a triple that he ran out well, but they gave Werth an error.

The ‘Pen looks better everytime out.

Young did have some rust, but you expect that after not pitching in a game for awhile. I expect him to be fine.

Ike Davis does something great everynight, as he made a great play to end the game tonight.

The 2 run double by Thole could turn him around this year.

That’s 5 in a row, Let’s keep it goin!

Mets Post Game: Astros 4, Mets 3

The Numbers:

  • R.A. Dickey started today and went 8 innings, let up 8 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
  • Izzy pitched a hitless inning.
  • Daniel Murphy had 3 hits and tied the game with a go ahead 2-run homer.
  • Reyes had 4 hits and a run scored tonight.
  • Beltran had 3 hits, 2 doubles, and an RBI.
  • Ike and Harris each had a hit.

R.A. Dickey was outstanding—he’s the first pitcher of the year to pitch through 8. He gave a tired bullpen the night off.

Pagan tried to score on a weak wild pitch and would have been safe if he had slid correctly.

The Thole play confused me badly. Why would Reyes be off the bag if the ball was popped up? I mean come on, you’re not going to go anywhere. Get back to the bag and we might win this game.

Wright is in a 0 for 18 slump.

Beltran is swinging a red hot bat.

As Keith Hernandez said, “This is like a horror movie!”

Grade for the Game: D

Mets Post Game: Mets 3, Braves 2

The Numbers:

  • A familiar guy by the name of Dillon Gee started today and earned the win. He went 5 2/3 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
  • Capuano and Dickey combined for 1 1/3 innings out of the bullpen neither letting up a run.
  • Isringhausen gave up a homer in the 8th but got a few huge strikeouts to keep the lead safe.
  • K-Rod got the save with a walk and a strikeout.
  • Jose Thole had a great day going 2 for 4 from the 2 hole with 2 RBI.
  • Ike had 2 hits including a double and an RBI today.
  • Jose Reyes went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored.

I love Gee, he throws strikes and can get outs. He throws all 4 of his pitches for strikes also.

I’ve wanted Thole in the 2 hole since day one. I think he is a perfect fit there especially with Pagan struggling so much.

Ike has great plate discipline in his sophomore year.

As usual, thanks for the heart attack Frankie. He struck out Conrad with Chipper on third to end the game.

Finally a win, it was about time.

Mets Post Game: Mets 6, Marlins 4 F/10

The Numbers:

  • David Wright easily had the best day at the plate going 3 for 5 with a solo homer and a go ahead RBI single in the 10th.
  • Ike went 2 for 3 with an RBI double and a walk.
  • Willie Harris came in the game for defense and hit a 2 run double to give the Mets insurance in the 10th.
  • Josh Thole went 3 for 4 with an RBI.
  • Reyes, Pagan, and Beltran each had a hit and a run scored tonight.
  • Jon Niese was spectacular after a shaky first inning going 7 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts throwing 86 pitches. He only allowed 1 hit after the first.
  • Parnell threw a scoreless inning and struck out 2.
  • K-Rod had a terrible game blowing a save and giving up 1 run.
  • Blane Boyer got the save tonight, but gave up a run.

Niese was spectacular, the Marlins just could not hit him after the first inning.

David Wright had a huge day with the opposite field home run and the go ahead hit. The go ahead hit came with 2 strikes also. The most important thing tonight though was that he didn’t strikeout.

Ike and Thole have looked good early.

Beltran ran shockingly well tonight scoring from first on a double and running down a few balls.

Grade for the Game: B

Mets Post Game: Mets 10, Marlins 0

The Numbers:

  • Ike Davis had one of the biggest days going 3 for 3 including a 2 run homer.
  • Josh Thole also went 2 for 3 with a 2 run homer.
  • No one else had RBIs due to the Marlins 5 errors.
  • Brad Emaus and Luis Castillo each kept their names in the 2nd base race notching 2 hits a piece.
  • Angel Pagan went 2 for 2 with a walk.
  • Jon Niese went 4 2/3 innings allowing 3 hits, 1 walk, and 4 strikeouts. Hopefully he didn’t finish the inning solely on pitch count.
  • Parnell, Izzy, and K-Rod all pitched scoreless innings of relief.

Grade for the Game: A+

Mets Post Game: Mets 7, Astros 2

The Numbers:

  • Chris Young started this year and went 4 innings giving up 2 homers and striking out 2.

Once I can actually watch these games I’ll give opinion, but the only thing I have to see how they do is numbers so that is all I can give you guys.
