Mets Post Game: Giants 3, Mets 1

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Capuano started and was great. He went 6 innings, let up 2 runs on 4 hits with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts.
  2. Daniel Murphy went 1 for 4 with an RBI double.
  3. Josh Thole went 1 for 2 with a double.

Capuano was great tonight. After a rough first inning of getting the ball stung, he really settled down and kept the giants at bay. I honestly thought after the first inning tonight, he was in for a 3 or 4 inning start. Very tough loss for Capuano tonight.

All of the Mets hits tonight were 2 out doubles. Kind of strange how things work out that way.

The rules with aces are that if you don’t get to them in the first, you probably won’t get to him at all. This happened tonight as the Mets got 1 run off Lincecum in the first, however it was not enough as he shut them down for the rest of his start.

Sidenote:

Congrats to Derek Jeter on his 3000th career hit and an outstanding game. Being a baseball fan, I really enjoy that type of history. Also, Jeter is one of the few Yankees I have respect for, he’s a classy guy who plays the game the right way even during the steroid era. Send all the hate you want, I am happy for Jeter.

Mets Post Game: Braves 6, Mets 3

By the Numbers:

  • Jon Niese was spectacular going 7 2/3 innings while letting up 2 runs on 8 hits, walking 1, and striking out 7 Braves.
  • Jose Reyes had his 27th multi-hit game with ANOTHER triple.
  • Pagan and Murph each had 2 hits and an RBI.
  • Carlos Beltran hit an RBI single.
  • Izzy gave up 1 unearned run in 1/3 of an inning while K-Rod let up 3 in the 9th.

Niese was great tonight and is really locking in as a left handed threat on the mound. His year ERA is now 3.75 which is great seeing what is was at after April.

These types of losses really bring a fan down, especially when they happen every single night. When a team is blowing leads at home, in front of THEIR fans, it is just an awful sight to see.

The Bullpen is simply terrible lately, I mean just awful. It seems that everyone is giving up runs left and right.

Pagan has been great since coming back from the DL and fixed exactly what was wrong with him.

Mets Post Game: Pirates 9, Mets 3

By the Numbers:

  • Chris Capuano went 6+ innings, let up 8 hits, 5 runs, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts.
  • Justin Turner hit a homer tonight, that is bigger than it sounds.
  • Ruben Tejada had 2 hits and 2 RBIs.
  • Beltran and Murphy each had 2 hits also.
  • Beato let up 3 runs in one inning while Dale Thayer had a scoreless outing.

Chris Capuano pitched SO much better thanĀ  his line. Once again he had a shutout through 6 innings and then just fell apart in the 7th.

Justin Turner’s homer ended a 10 game drought for the Mets today If you think about it they is at least 97 homerless innings.

Ruben Tejada has produced so well offensively for him, he has been great all year.

The Mets are just going through one blow up inning per game. It was the 7th and 8th tonight. Our bullpen just flat out sucks lately. They need to get their act back together.

Grade for the Game: C

Mets Post Game: Mets 7, Phillies 1

The Numbers:

  • Chris Young had the overall biggest day for the Mets pitching with a line of 5 1/3 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 3 walks, and 7 strikeouts.
  • Young didn’t only pitch well, he hit well too, going 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • David Wright had a huge game going 4 for 5 with 2 runs and 2 RBI.
  • Hariston, Ike, and Emaus each had 1 hit and 1 RBI each.
  • Reyes had 2 hits and Hu had 1.
  • Carrasco pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief only letting up 1 hit and striking out 1.
  • Byrdak threw an inning of relief and so did Bobby Parnell.

Chris Young was absolutely sensational tonight, he got a little tired towards the end but was still dominant on the mound AND at the plate. He was the first Met pitcher ever to get 3 hits in a game.

David Wright’s 4 hits were his first 4 hits game in over 2 years, he is locked in at the plate.

I love the way the offense worked tonight against Hamels. They were taking pitches and controling the at-bats. They weren’t chasing any pitches and they put good swings on the ball.

This team just has a different feeling than the 2010 team. It has more life.
