Mets Post Game: Mets 4, Nationals 3

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Kirk Nieuwenhuis went 1 for 3 with his first homer of his career.
  2. Daniel Murphy went 2 for 5 with a walk off RBI.
  3. Mike Pelfrey went 5 2/3 innings let up 10 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk, and 8 strikeouts.

Mike Pelfrey looked way better that he did all of last year. His pitches had so much movement tonight and he had incredible velocity. There was one sinker he threw that was so good it was simply unfair. I am very pleased with this start from Pelfrey.

Daniel Murphy has so many haters but he is such a good player. He hits line drives and plays an adequate 2nd base.

Ruben Tejada has been a better leadoff hitter this year than Jose Reyes because of his at-bats. He has an amazing eye for the strike zone and has long turns at the plate.

I’m starting to worry about Ike Davis. Hopefully an off day tomorrow will do wonders.

The bullpen has been untouchable this year after an awful spring. Hopefully this can keep up.

Congrats to Kirk on the first career homer. I really like the player that he has a chance to become.

4-0 WOW. Lets Go Mets!!

Box Score

3 Standout Performances

  1. Lucas Duda went 2 for 4 with an opposite field homer.
  2. Jordany Valdespin went 2 for 4 with an RBI.
  3. Parnell and Edgin had a scoreless inning each.

Lucas Duda has had a phenomenal spring so far. He is hitting with power to all fields and running good counts.

Valdespin looked fairly comfortable in center field today. His bat is not the question, the question is whether or not he can play center field.

Bobby Parnell has been the 2nd biggest surprise of the spring for me. He has really looked like a pitcher, not a thrower.

If I remember correctly, Wright wasn’t supposed to start today…I guess he feels THAT good and that is a good sign.

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Ike Davis went 2 for 3 with a walk and a 3 run homer to the opposite field.
  2. Lucas Duda had 2 hits including a long homer about 3/4 of the way off the batters eye in center field.
  3. Mike Pelfrey went 6 innings, let up 8 hits, 5 runs (4 earned), 0 walks and 2 strikeouts.

Pelfrey was using some weird new delivery today. It wasn’t a complete change, he was just putting his hands over his head in the windup. If it works, I don’t care, but he needs to figure himself out. Pelfrey only threw his sinker today, thats it. It had some good velocity, but he threw maybe 10 breaking pitches all game. I understand he needs to get a feel for his pitches, but not to that extent.

I was about to start a post on why Ike hadn’t homered yet this spring…oh well.

Lucas Duda has amazing power to all fields. The one he hit today was at least 430 ft.

Den Dekker has looked great defensively in center field. He is so comfortable out there.

Mets Post Game: Mets 8, Astros 2

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. R.A. Dickey had the best day on the mound as a Met so far this spring. He gave up 1 hit over 6 1/3 innings, walked 3, and struck out 4. He did not allow a hit until the 6th inning of play.
  2. Ruben Tejada hit a long homer today.
  3. Omar Quintanilla hit a 3 run double to put this game out of reach.

I was watching Tejada hitting balls in BP last week and he was killing the ball. He was hitting balls like the homer he hit all through his BP session. He is much stronger than he was last year.

R.A. Dickey was sensational today. There is no other way to put it. Simply sensational. He could have gone 9 if this was a regular season game.

Vinny Rottino has caught fire these last few days. He could be a good back up player in triple A in case someone goes down.

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Chris Schwinden went 6 innings let up 6 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts.
  2. Willie Harris went 3 for 4 with his 2nd home run of the season.
  3. Josh Satin got his first career RBIs with a 2 run double.

Chris Schwinden got into bad luck tonight. He deserved his first career win with his outing today but, I guess the stars were just not alligned for him tonight. Don’t worry however, he did get his first career hit.

Congrats to Josh Satin on his first career RBIs. Hopefully he can form to become a quality run producer.

Although he was tagged with the loss tonight, I still love Daniel Herrera but I don’t know why.

Mets Post Game: Mets 12, Braves 2

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. David Wright broke out of a long slump going 3 for 6 with 2 homers and 5 RBIs.
  2. Lucas Duda went 4 for 5 with an RBI and 3 runs scored.
  3. Jose Reyes went 3 for 5 and is now hitting .334.

Chris Capuano settled down after a rough start to his night giving up 2 runs in the first 2 innings and then baring down to go 5 solid innings and ultimately get the job done.

The Mets bullpen was solid tonight going 4 innings and letting up 0 hits and 1 walk in the night.

Although he has not hit as much as we want him too, Jason Bay has been a solid defender as he showed tonight robbing a homer from Alex Gonzalez. I don’t feel any hatred for Jason Bay.

Of course the day where the Mets get a huge win and blowout the Braves, the help the Phillies clinch the division…an incredibly bittersweet win tonight.

Grade for the Game: A

Mets Post Game: Marlins 9, Mets 3

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Jason Bay went 2 for 4 with a long 2 run homer. He looked like the Bay from 2009…just sayin’
  2. Chris Capuano gave up 8 hits and 6 runs in 4 rough innings of work.
  3. Angel Pagan had 2 hits and an RBI.

Capuano simply put had a rough, rough day on the mound. He just got hit hard all game. That could either be fatigue, or just a rough start. Who knows.

Jason Bay is on fire once again. I wont be hyped up about him until…well never. Any breakouts that he has from now on will be a complete surprise to me.

When Reyes does not hit, he fields and he is damn good at it. He made another sensational play tonight. He is a must sign.

Mets Post Game: Mets 6, Nationals 3

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Lucas Duda hit a bomb into the upper deck of Nationals Park, a game tying shot for his 9th homer of the year.
  2. Willie Harris hit a pinch hit 2 run single to give the Mets the lead.
  3. In his big league debut Josh Satin went 1 for 2 with a single.

I don’t know what to say about Mike Pelfrey. The one plus over his last couple of starts have been his fastball velocity. It has been climbing back up into 95-97 range as of late. However, he still does not have a put away pitch in his arsenal. I still think he should use his curve more.

Ruben Tejada is making a case here that he can hit at this level.

Josh Stinson was great out of the bullpen again going 2 innings today showing poise as a relief pitcher.

Congrats to Josh Satin on his first big league hit.

Grade for the Game: B+

Mets Post Game: Brewers 11, Mets 9

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Angel Pagan went 3 for 5 including a go-ahead 2 run homer off K-Rod to give the Mets the lead.
  2. Jason Isringhausen went 0 innings let up 1 hit, 4 runs and 3 walks to the Brewers in his worst Met outing.
  3. Ruben Tejada went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and an RBI.

This game WAS arguably the game of the year that is until the 9th inning came along. K-Rod comes in and struggles against his old team. You could not write a better script than that…for a while that is.

I feel bad for Izzy.Everyone now is going to question, is this guy done and can he pitch anymore. He is fine. He had ONE bad outing. I felt bad for him as he was booed off the field.

Chris Capuano today was not AS bad as his line showed today. He made 3 bad pitches (arguably 2) and they all landed in the seats. I do believe, however that Braun’s HR was not a bad pitch at all.

Ruben Tejada has been  tearing the cover off the ball since his re-call.

Mets Post Game: Mets 5, Padres 4 F/10

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  • Josh Thole went 3 for 3 with his 3rd home run of the season.
  • Lucas Duda hit his 5th homer of the year and made a great play reaching into the stands to steal a foul ball from a fan.
  • Jason Isringhausen pitched the bottom of the 10th and struck out 1 in a rough inning for his 300th career save.

Congrats to Izzy on the save tonight. He really brought his career full circle getting his 1st save with the Mets and now getting his 300th. Really special moment for Izzy and the Mets.

Lucas Duda has really come into his own as a ball player. He killed a ball into the right field seats at Petco.

Josh Thole has turned it on as of late and is starting to look like the hitter that I thought he would be all year. He needs to prove something before the Mets decide to replace him.

Bobby Parnell has really struggled as of late. That guy really needs to learn how to pitch..not throw.
