Mets Post Game: Padres 4, Mets 2 (Game 1)

What’s Important:

Hitting:

2 Mets had hits today, an infield hit by Reyes and a 2 run homer by Henry Blanco. Some good news is that Blanco’s homer came after a 10 pitch at bat from Latos. The last 22 Mets today were retired.

Pitching:

Johan Santana was okay today giving up 4 runs over 6 2/3 innings, walked 4, and only struck out 1. He did not have his best stuff today. The bullpen was solid as Feliciano, Mejia, and Nieve combined to give up no runs.

Grade for the Game: D

The bullpen and Henry Blanco were the only good points of the game today. Besides that, there was nothing to be happy about today. Santana got a loss, and the Mets could not score. Hats off to Latos, he was great tonight.

Before Game Moves: Reyes, Blanco, Perez

Today Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel had a closed-door meeting and here are the moves that came out of it…

Reyes:

Jose Reyes and Angel Pagan will switch places tonight as Reyes returns to as he called, “home” as the spark plug. I know how good Luis Castillo has been but, I would have been happier to see Pagan in the 2 hole and Wright batting 3rd.

Blanco:

Today Henry Blanco rejoined the team after coming back from his family in Venezuela. Josh Thole was sent back to AAA without playing a game like Jerry thought he would.

Perez:

This was probably the most expected move of all 3, Oliver Perez is in the bullpen. He does not want to go to AAA and he will try to work out his problems in the bullpen. It is not yet announced who will replace him in the rotation.

A Taste of the Future: Blanco in Venezuela, Thole called up

Today Henry Blanco was placed on the berevment list because of family issues and is currently in Venezuela. I feel bad for Henry but, hope his family is ok. But, to replace his spot on the roster the Mets have called up rookie catcher Josh Thole to replace his spot. I wish him luck and a lot of at bats in the week that he is in the big leagues. Next year however, he should be our starting catcher.

Mets Post Game: Mets 5, Giants 4 F/11

What’s Important:

Hitting:

David Wright and Ike Davis each had bad days going 0 for 3, each however drew a couple of walks. Jason Bay went 1 for 4  with 2 RBIs. However, the best offense we had today came from Henry Blanco. That is not a typo, Henry Blanco went 3 for 5 with the game winning, walk off home run to end the game in the 11th inning.

Pitching:

Johan Santana had a bounce back type of night going 7 2/3 giving up 4 runs and struck out 6. He would have only given up a run however, Nieve and Feliciano could not get an out. Mejia, K-Rod, and Takahashi all had scoreless innings to keep the Mets in the game.

Grade for the Game: A-

Back to back walk off home runs by two back up catchers..who would have guessed? The Mets won their 9th straight home game and look great looking for the sweep of the Giants. The Giants pitching staff will be a challenge but, you never know.
