Mets Post Game: Mets 4, Braves 3

By the Numbers:

  • Jon Niese went 6 1/3 innings letting up 5 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
  • Jose Reyes had 3 singles and an RBI.
  • Willie Harris and Angel Pagan had a hit and 2 walks each.
  • Carlos Beltran had 2 hits and an RBI.
  • Tim Byrdak got 2 huge strikeouts to get the Mets out of a tricky 7th inning striking out McCann with runners on.
  • Izzy gave up a run in the 8th, but K-Rod through the 9th and got the save.

Niese was great once again, he got ground balls and kept the Braves hitters off balance all night long. He fell apart a little bit in the 7th and I was disappointed that Terry didn’t let him try and get out of it.

Those strikeouts by Byrdak were huge, especially the one from McCann, one of the best hitters in the NL. He bailed Niese and Beato out of that tough, tough inning.

Jose Reyes…Jose REYES….JOSE REYES

The Mets stole a ton off a tough Jurrjens today..he is usually very tough to steal off of.

It seems the Mets win so much easier when Bay isn’t in the lineup. It is a very sad thing.

Mets Post Game: Pirates 9, Mets 3

By the Numbers:

  • Chris Capuano went 6+ innings, let up 8 hits, 5 runs, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts.
  • Justin Turner hit a homer tonight, that is bigger than it sounds.
  • Ruben Tejada had 2 hits and 2 RBIs.
  • Beltran and Murphy each had 2 hits also.
  • Beato let up 3 runs in one inning while Dale Thayer had a scoreless outing.

Chris Capuano pitched SO much better than  his line. Once again he had a shutout through 6 innings and then just fell apart in the 7th.

Justin Turner’s homer ended a 10 game drought for the Mets today If you think about it they is at least 97 homerless innings.

Ruben Tejada has produced so well offensively for him, he has been great all year.

The Mets are just going through one blow up inning per game. It was the 7th and 8th tonight. Our bullpen just flat out sucks lately. They need to get their act back together.

Mets Post Game: Rockies 2, Mets 1

The Numbers:

  • Chris Capuano went 6 2/3 innings tonight and lets up 5 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
  • Murphy and David Wright each had a hit.
  • Ike Davis had 2 hits.
  • Jason Bay did not record a hit, but hit an RBI groundout where he reached base. However, the play was ruled as an error.
  • Buchholz and Byrdak combined for 1 1/3 scoreless.

As I say everytime that Capuano pitches, he is a great 5th starter as he kept the Mets in the game again. He struggled in the 1st, but really settled down afterwards. I was shaky with him at first in the rotation, but now I think I’ve grown to like him.

There was one play where Murphy was thrown out at the plate when it was clearly safe. Is it just me or do those plays always go against the Mets. Maybe it is just me.

Willie Harris got a lucky hit and I thought, “Oh good this could break him out!” About 1 minute later he tried to steal 2nd down by a run and was thrown out by a mile. Let’s just say a certain Metsnewsnow blogger felt like punching a hole in the wall, but didn’t. ANYWAYS, there is no excuse to stealing there unless you know that you will be safe. Uncalled for there.

Mets Post Game’s: Braves 4 Mets 2, Braves 4 Mets 0

Game 1 Numbers:

  • Carrasco started and went 3 2/3 innings, 4hits, 3 runs,  3 walks, and 2 strikeouts.
  • Misch gave up a run in 2 innings of work today.
  • Igarashi and Parnell had scoreless outings, Igarashi went 1/3 of and inning and Parnell went 2 innings.
  • Reyes and Harris each had RBI hits.
  • Beltran, Pagan, Thole, and Hairston all had hits.

Game 2 Numbers:

  • Harris and Murphy had the only 2 hits of game 2.
  • Mike Pelfrey started and went 5 innings, 11 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts.
  • Pedro Beato pitched 2 perfect innings striking out 3.
  • Buchholz pitched a perfect inning striking out 1.

Daniel Murphy tried to steal 3rd with 0 outs and was thrown out by a mile. Are you kidding me? Down by 3 runs also? Unacceptable.

Carrasco was ok in a spot start, but Mike Pelfrey gave up 11 hits. That’s way to many in 5 innings of work.

The  Mets can’t throw out a baserunner.

TOO MANY MENTAL MISTAKES.

On a brighter note, Pedro Beato has been great all season long.

Also, are you freaking kidding me Braves?  Scheduling a double-header against a team that just had one on Thursday. That is just ridiculous. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not making excuses. I just thought what the Braves did was cheap and childish, trying to take advantage of a tired team and frankly, risking the health of some players. I would be fine if it was a Central team because the Mets would not have come back there. But, no they come back to Atlanta ALOT. I’m sorry but this whole day was completely bull, the Mets played awful but I am just pissed off at the Braves. The commissioners office should defiantly do something about this.

Mets Post Game: Mets 9, Marlins 2

The Numbers:

  • R.A. Dickey made his first start of the year and earned a win for the Mets going 6 innings, 5 hits, 1 run (0 earned), 3 walk, and 7 strikeouts.
  • Ike Davis today went 2 for 5 with his first home run of 2011.
  • Willie Harris went 1 for 5 with a walk and a 2 run homer off Javier Vazquez.
  • Duda had one hit, and Reyes had 2 today.
  • Daniel Murphy went 1 for 3 with an RBI double and a walk.
  • Buchholz and Byrdak each pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen for the Mets.
  • Capuano struggled in his Mets debut going 2/3 of an inning giving up 3 hits and a run, Carrasco finished the inning for him striking out John Buck with the bases loaded.

Dickey showed today that last year was no fluke commanding all of his pitches and getting ground balls.

Ike getting off to a strong start is huge due to if he did not he would get asked over and over about the “Sophomore Slump.”

Murphy played his first career game at 2nd base today and looked a little awkward, but ultimately got the job done in the end.

The bullpen has looked shaky so far to start the year, but hopefully they will pick up the slack.

Willie Harris has been huge to start the year.
