Mets Post Game: Mets 2, Marlins 1

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. R.A. Dickey started game 1 and went 7 strong innings letting up 7 hits and 0 runs. He struck out 6.
  2. Jason Isringhausen went 1 inning and struck out the side.
  3. Lucas Duda went 3 for 4 with a run scored.

Dickey was great tonight at one point striking out 4 Marlins in a row. Hopefully his knuckler threw off the Marlins for game 2.

Bobby Parnell got the save, but he TRIED to blow it giving up a home run in the 9th inning. He looks to have learned from Krod.

Lucas Duda is raking at the plate.

Mike Piazza Will Manage the Mets Someday

I meant to post this around the all-star break, but honestly I forgot about it.

In July, it clicked with me that Piazza will soon try to manage a big league club, hopefully the Mets. I got this impression in the 2009 world baseball classic when he managed team Italy. He wanted to manage a team and that was his first chance. Also, he has stayed very much in contact with MLB. He has been in the legends game every year and more significantly managed the futures game—in a Mets cap. Oh and remember what happened in this futures game? He brought in Mets prospect pitcher Matt Harvey to get the save. Furthermore, think about what type of players make the best managers. That’s right, catchers. All of this points to Piazza wanting to manage the a big league club preferably the Mets in the future.

Mets Post Game: Brewers 11, Mets 9

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Angel Pagan went 3 for 5 including a go-ahead 2 run homer off K-Rod to give the Mets the lead.
  2. Jason Isringhausen went 0 innings let up 1 hit, 4 runs and 3 walks to the Brewers in his worst Met outing.
  3. Ruben Tejada went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and an RBI.

This game WAS arguably the game of the year that is until the 9th inning came along. K-Rod comes in and struggles against his old team. You could not write a better script than that…for a while that is.

I feel bad for Izzy.Everyone now is going to question, is this guy done and can he pitch anymore. He is fine. He had ONE bad outing. I felt bad for him as he was booed off the field.

Chris Capuano today was not AS bad as his line showed today. He made 3 bad pitches (arguably 2) and they all landed in the seats. I do believe, however that Braun’s HR was not a bad pitch at all.

Ruben Tejada has been  tearing the cover off the ball since his re-call.

Mets Post Game: Brewers 6, Mets 1

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Angel Pagan went 3 for 4 tonight.
  2. Ruben Tejada went 2 for 3.
  3. Mike Pelfrey gave up 3 earned runs in 5 innings of work. He walked 4 and struck out 4.

I am tired of Mike Pelfrey…he has no out pitch. He has a great sinker/fastball but all of his other pitches are crap. I don’t know if he can be good again.

Tejada and Pagan hit well tonight…so that’s a good thing.

Oh and by the way, what Fielder did was ridiculous. Don’t charge Byrdak.

That felt WAY longer than the west coast games that we played earlier.

Mets Post Game: Mets 5, Padres 4 F/10

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  • Josh Thole went 3 for 3 with his 3rd home run of the season.
  • Lucas Duda hit his 5th homer of the year and made a great play reaching into the stands to steal a foul ball from a fan.
  • Jason Isringhausen pitched the bottom of the 10th and struck out 1 in a rough inning for his 300th career save.

Congrats to Izzy on the save tonight. He really brought his career full circle getting his 1st save with the Mets and now getting his 300th. Really special moment for Izzy and the Mets.

Lucas Duda has really come into his own as a ball player. He killed a ball into the right field seats at Petco.

Josh Thole has turned it on as of late and is starting to look like the hitter that I thought he would be all year. He needs to prove something before the Mets decide to replace him.

Bobby Parnell has really struggled as of late. That guy really needs to learn how to pitch..not throw.

Mets Post Game: D-Backs 6, Mets 4

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  • Mike Baxter went 2 for 4 with an RBI triple.
  • Ruben Tejada went 2 for 3 with a 2 run double tonight.
  • Mike Pelfrey went 4 alright innings although he left in the 5th after getting a ball off of his pitching elbow.

I don’t know about you guys, but I am sick of the inconsistency that Mike Pelfrey brings to the ball park. I understand that tonight he got injured but still some nights he will look like an ace and others he will look like garbage. I don’t understand.

Mike Baxter has been a great spark since he became a Met. Yes I do understand that it has been a short sample size but I can see him getting a ton of playing time in right for the rest of the year.

Beato and Parnell both looked good tonight. Parnell pitched a scoreless inning and Beato gave up 1 run in 2 innings of work tonight.

Mets Post Game: D-Backs 4, Mets 3

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  • Jason Bay went 3 for 4 with an RBI single off Ian Kennedy
  • Angel Pagan went 2 for 5 with a run scored.
  • Dillon Gee went 5 innings, gave up 4 runs, and struck out 3.

The Mets bullpen was the best thing of the night. throwing 3 shutout innings with their crappiest relievers against the hard hitting Diamond Backs. Iggy, Byrdak, and Acosta pitched very well tonight.

Jason Bay has been on fire as of late. He has been hitting the ball hard and not striking out as much.

Dillon Gee had awful control tonight. All of his pitches were up in the zone and not moving well at all. I have a feeling he is going through a little bit of a dead arm period.

Mets Post Game: Marlins 7, Mets 3 F/10

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Jason Bay went 1 for 4 with his first homer in over 6 weeks.
  2. Lucas Duda hit a game tying 2 run homer with 2 outs in the 9th inning off Leo Nunez.
  3. Manny Acosta pitched 2 hitless innings and struck out 4.

Pelfrey pitched great tonight going 6 innings and letting up 3 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits. He has really had his sinker working lately. I do not like the 3 walks tonight.

The Mets technically could have won tonight if Jose Reyes was not thrown out of the plate. Not saying that would have happened, but we did have a runner thrown out at the plate.

Lucas Duda has really turned it on lately. Leo Nunez should cower at the name Lucas Duda, he has hit 2 bombs off him.

What a big boy of Jason Bay to hit a homer off Javi Vazquez. I think he has hit more opposite field homers at Citi Field that he has pulled the ball.

Grade for the Game: B+

Mets Post Game: Mets 8, Reds 6

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Jason Pridie went 2 for 5 with the go-ahead 2 run double that ultimately won the game for the Mets.
  2. Tim Byrdak struck out Jay Bruce for the last out of the game for his first save since 2007 and his 4th career save.
  3. Jon Niese let up 5ER in 5 innings and struck out 5. He won his 10th game of the year tonight.

Jon Niese basically had one bad inning tonight. He gave up a 4-run 5th that basically ruined his night. He still got to 10 wins this year which is huge seeing how he started this year.

Jason Pridie had a great game today. He basically won the game for the Mets with his bat filling in for Angel Pagan.

Daniel Murphy is a sensational hitter. If they can find a spot to put his glove in the outfield, he has all-star potential in my opinion.

This team has made the defending NL central champs look bad, especially on defense.

Grade for the Game: A-

Mets Post Game: Mets 4, Reds 2

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Jason Bay 1 for 3 with an RBI double, his first double in 186 at-bats.
  2. Daniel Murphy hit 2 doubles including a go-ahead 2 run double.
  3. Dickey pitched into the 7th inning and let up 2 runs while striking out 7.

Dickey was great tonight. He had good control all night and kept the reds hitters off balance.

Murphy is such a good hitter. What I like the most about him is that he drives pitches where they are in the zone. For your second year in the league, it is very impressive that he can perform like this.

Bay with his first double since May 15th…wow.
