Mets Trade K-Rod to the Brewers

The Mets and Brewers announced today that they have completed a trade for closer Francisco Rodriguez and cash for 2 players to be named later. K-Rod will be the new Brewers set-up man.The Mets will get to pick 2 players from a pool of guys to complete the trade.

This is one contract that the Mets needed to get rid of. We could not allow ourselves to pay K-Rod 17.5MM in 2012 because he finished 55 games this season. I have a feeling that Sandy is going to pick 2 great young guys to finish the trade. As for the closers role, Izzy, I believe will not get it. He is too old and can not take the innings. I believe it is in-between Parnell and Beato. I would like to see Beato, however I believe Parnell will be the new closer of the Mets. The white flag has not yet been waved by Alderson. Best of luck to K-Rod in Milwaulkee. Lets Go Mets!

Mets Post Game: Phillies 6, Mets 4

The Numbers:

  • Chris Capuano went 6 great innings, gave up 4 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), 1 walk, and 8 strikeouts.
  • Justin Turner went 4 for 5 with an RBI.
  • Reyes, Beltran, and Paulino had 2 hits each.
  • Angel Pagan made his return tonight and had a 2 hit game.
  • Izzy gave up a run in the 8th and K-Rod gave up 3 in the 9th.
  • Ruben Tejada went 0 f0r 3 with  16 pitch walk.

Capuano was spectacular again tonight holding the Phillies to 1 earned run while striking out 8 men in just 6 innings. He only threw 77 pitches but was pinch hit for in the middle of a rally.

The at-bat by Tejada was amazing. 16 pitches and drawing the walk is just the type of pesky hitter that he needs to be. I am very happy with his production so far.

The Mets made some amazing diving catches in the outfield today, but also botched a few balls. One was an error by Beltran and one was a ball that Murphy should have caught at first, but it got by him.

Justin Turner is a great hitter so far. I don’t know how you can take both him and Tejada out of the lineup once Wright returns. That is going to be a tough choice to make.

Angel Pagan looked like the man from 2010 today getting 2 hits in 4 at-bats. He needs to be back to that form for this team to be succesful.

Grade for the Game: B

Mets Post Game: Mets 5, Giants 2

The Numbers:

  • Big Pelf started for the Mets and had his longest outing of the year of 7 2/3 4 hits, 2 runs, (1 earned), 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts.
  • Carlos Beltran went 1 for 4 with a 2 run homer.
  • Jose Reyes went 1 for 4 with a 2 run triple.
  • Wright, Bay, and Ike also had hits.
  • K-Rod shut the door with a very shaky 4 out save.

Mike Pelfrey actually looked like a legitimate major league baseball pitcher today as he worked through the Giant lineup with ease. He had some shaky innings but got out of them nearly unharmed. I liked what I saw today.

Throwback Beltran so far this year. He has already hit 6 homers and is hitting nearly .300 on the year.

K-Rod almost killed me…again.

It seems the Mets only win when Jason Bay comes back from a stint. Whether it is off the DL or paternity list, they look different with him.

Mets Post Game: Mets 6, Nationals 4

The Numbers:

  • Chris Young started and went 4 2/3 innings while letting up 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
  • Ike Davis went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 runs scored.
  • Jason Bay went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored.
  • Murphy and Beltran both hit doubles.
  • Thole hit the game winning go ahead double in the 6th to get the Mets a lead.
  • Pridie had 2 hits and Wright hit an RBI groundout.
  • Igarashi pitched 1/3 scoreless innings and Buchholz pitched 2 scoreless.
  • Izzy pitched an inning and gave up a run. K-Rod nailed it down in the 9th.

I was the most impressed today about Beltran. His double in my mind should have been a triple that he ran out well, but they gave Werth an error.

The ‘Pen looks better everytime out.

Young did have some rust, but you expect that after not pitching in a game for awhile. I expect him to be fine.

Ike Davis does something great everynight, as he made a great play to end the game tonight.

The 2 run double by Thole could turn him around this year.

That’s 5 in a row, Let’s keep it goin!

Grade for the Game: B+

Mets Post Game: Mets 10, Marlins 0

The Numbers:

  • Ike Davis had one of the biggest days going 3 for 3 including a 2 run homer.
  • Josh Thole also went 2 for 3 with a 2 run homer.
  • No one else had RBIs due to the Marlins 5 errors.
  • Brad Emaus and Luis Castillo each kept their names in the 2nd base race notching 2 hits a piece.
  • Angel Pagan went 2 for 2 with a walk.
  • Jon Niese went 4 2/3 innings allowing 3 hits, 1 walk, and 4 strikeouts. Hopefully he didn’t finish the inning solely on pitch count.
  • Parnell, Izzy, and K-Rod all pitched scoreless innings of relief.

Grade for the Game: A+

Mets Post Game: Mets 7, Astros 2

The Numbers:

  • Chris Young started this year and went 4 innings giving up 2 homers and striking out 2.
  • Josh Thole went 3 for 3 including a 2 run homer.
  • Kirk Nieuwenhuis also hit a 2 run homer.
  • Murphy went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI.
  • K-Rod pitch 1 2/3 innings allowing 0 hits and struck out 2.

Once I can actually watch these games I’ll give opinion, but the only thing I have to see how they do is numbers so that is all I can give you guys.

K-Rod Out for the Season

Francisco Rodriguez is out for the season with a torn ligament in his thumb. It is reported that he sustained the injury during the altercation that he had on Wednesday night. He underwent surgery today and will not be paid for the remainder of the year. It is possible that the Mets could void the rest of K-Rods contract.

The Francisco Rodriguez Situation

As most know by now, K-Rod was arrested after last night’s game for assaulting his father-in-law. The altercation was reportedly in the team family lounge in front of all of the players wives and children. Francoeur’s wife and Reyes’ wife and daughter both witnessed the altercation. After it was over, Rodriguez yelled at reporters for trying to interview him about the game and left the clubhouse. He was met by police and put in the holding cell in Citi Field. He was there for 16 hours before being brought to court during the game today.

More distractions…I  am happy all the players are backing him up though.

This should never happen…it bothered me most that it happened in front of all the wives and children.

Mets Post Game: Mets 6, Yankees 4

What’s Important:

Hitting:

All i need to say is Jason Bay for tonight. He entered today’s game with questions about his Power but, hit 2 home runs tonight. One of which was an opposite field home run. Jose Reyes looked good tonight getting 2 hits, one of which was 2 out with a runner in scoring position. Alex Cora had a big hit tonight as he hit a 2 run single with 2 out to begin the Met scoring. David Wright drove in the other Met run with an RBI double.

Pitching:

Johan Santana was just incredible. His line was 7 2/3 IP, 6 hits, 1 run, 3 walks, 5 strikeouts. He did not get into a 3 ball count until the 7th inning and simply was too much for the Yankee hitters. Feliciano came in and got Cano to pop up with the bases loaded and end the inning. Tonight we saw the return of an uneffective Ryota Igarashi. He got 1 out, and gave up a couple runs. This caused K-Rod to come in for the save. A Jeter double and a Texiera chopper made it runners on 1st and 3rd with 2 out with A-Rod at the plate. After a long duel of an AB with Rodriguez, K-Rod struck him out with a 3-2 change-up that was simply beautiful.

Grade for the Game: A

I do not care that the bullpen was shaky tonight. The Mets got clutch hits from a ton of people, and a huge night from Jason Bay’s power. The 2 home runs that Bay hit tonight is why we signed him for 4 years. The only Met without a hit tonight was Frenchy. Johan Santana had his best start of the season thus far tonight and showed why he is considered an elite pitcher. The pitch that K-Rod struck him out with was a phenomenal pitch. I was very happy with his night tonight as Jason Bay made Citi Field look small.
