Mets Post Game: Mets 6, Cardinals 6 F/10

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Ike Davis went 2 for 3 with a walk and a 3 run homer to the opposite field.
  2. Lucas Duda had 2 hits including a long homer about 3/4 of the way off the batters eye in center field.
  3. Mike Pelfrey went 6 innings, let up 8 hits, 5 runs (4 earned), 0 walks and 2 strikeouts.

Pelfrey was using some weird new delivery today. It wasn’t a complete change, he was just putting his hands over his head in the windup. If it works, I don’t care, but he needs to figure himself out. Pelfrey only threw his sinker today, thats it. It had some good velocity, but he threw maybe 10 breaking pitches all game. I understand he needs to get a feel for his pitches, but not to that extent.

I was about to start a post on why Ike hadn’t homered yet this spring…oh well.

Lucas Duda has amazing power to all fields. The one he hit today was at least 430 ft.

Den Dekker has looked great defensively in center field. He is so comfortable out there.

Mets Post Game: Mets 4, Rockies 3

The Numbers:

  • Mike Pelfrey went 6 2/3 innings and let up 6 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts. He also hit an RBI double from the plate.
  • Ike Davis had a hit which what a 2 run single in the 1st.
  • Izzy, Byrdak, and K-Rod all pitched scoreless outings tonight.
  • Jose Reyes hit a double while Paulino and Turner had base hits.
  • Daniel Murphy had 2 hits tonight.

Mike Pelfrey had a great outing tonight as he controlled all of his pitches. I am still personally not a fan of Mike Pelfrey, but he pitched well tonight and got the win.The runs he gave up were all on solo homers.

Now here is the play that I had a problem with. The play that Ike got hurt. Ike and Wright collided on a ball that was popped in the air in front of the pitchers mound. Ike hurt his calf, however the collision was not the problem to me. Pelfrey was the problem. Pelfrey should have either fielded the ball OR helped Ike and Wright out and told them they were near eachother. What did he do? He stood there, and watched. Help out your team mates Pelf.

Tim Byrdak pitched great as he got Helton on a 3 pitch strikeout to end the 8th.

What a strange at bat right after the rain delay. The at-bat consisted of 2 pitchers, and 2 hitters. It was Pelfrey vs. Fowler before the rain delay, then after it was Izzy vs. Fowler. Fowler fouled a ball off his knee and came out of the game so it was Izzy vs. Spilborghs in one at bat. Weird Stuff.

The Mets are not 3-8 in one run games.

Mets Post Game: Rockies 2, Mets 1

The Numbers:

  • Chris Capuano went 6 2/3 innings tonight and lets up 5 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
  • Murphy and David Wright each had a hit.
  • Ike Davis had 2 hits.
  • Jason Bay did not record a hit, but hit an RBI groundout where he reached base. However, the play was ruled as an error.
  • Buchholz and Byrdak combined for 1 1/3 scoreless.

As I say everytime that Capuano pitches, he is a great 5th starter as he kept the Mets in the game again. He struggled in the 1st, but really settled down afterwards. I was shaky with him at first in the rotation, but now I think I’ve grown to like him.

There was one play where Murphy was thrown out at the plate when it was clearly safe. Is it just me or do those plays always go against the Mets. Maybe it is just me.

Willie Harris got a lucky hit and I thought, “Oh good this could break him out!” About 1 minute later he tried to steal 2nd down by a run and was thrown out by a mile. Let’s just say a certain Metsnewsnow blogger felt like punching a hole in the wall, but didn’t. ANYWAYS, there is no excuse to stealing there unless you know that you will be safe. Uncalled for there.

Mets Post Game: Mets 6, Dodgers 3

The Numbers:

  • Jon Niese started for the Mets and went 5 2/3 innings while giving up 7 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks, and 5 strikeouts.
  • Ike Davis hit a line drive homerun into right field. It was a bullet.
  • Jason Pridie somehow still has power as he hit his 3rd big league homer. A go-ahead 3 run homer.
  • Jose Reyes went 3 for 4 with 2 triples and a double.
  • Jason Bay had 2 hits and an RBI single.
  • Carlos Beltran had a hit and a sac fly.

Ike Davis’ homers always go farther than expected. He gets amazing carry on his balls. This one didn’t need it, it got out in a hurry.

Jon Niese struggled in the first, but really settled down afterwards. After a 30 pitch first he got through 5 2/3 and could have gone 6.

The bullpen was great tonight. Iggy, Izzy, and Frankie all pitched well.

Jose Reyes is electric. Seriously he is an amazing player. I can’t describe the emotion and energy when he is in the lineup.

The Mets are 9-3 with Jason Bay in the lineup.

Mets Post Game: Giants 7, Mets 6 F/10

The Numbers:

  • R.A. Dickey pitched 6 ok innings tonight and let up 7 hits, 5 runs, 1 walk, and 1 strikeout.
  • Jose Reyes went 3 for 3 with 3 walks, a double, and an RBI.
  • Gee and Izzy got through the 7th and 8th While K-Rod got out of a 1st and 3rd 0 out jam unharmed in the 9th.
  • Buchholz gave up the go ahead homer in the 10th to Aubrey Huff.
  • Carlos Beltran went 2 for 4 with a 3 run homer.
  • Ike Davis went 1 for 4 with a 2 run homer.
  • Wright and Pridie had a hit each while Thole got 3 hits.

This was a game that the Mets should have won. They had bases loaded and 1 out in the bottom of the 9th and grounded into a double play. Clearly a shame.

Jose Reyes was spectacular getting on base 6 straight times today. If he can play like that, Sandy will surely try and resign him.

Ike Davis and Carlos Beltran both hit rockets, Carlos’ was a liner, and Ike’s was normal for him…a bomb.

R.A. Dickey looked great through 3, but those 4th and 5th innings where he gave up 6 runs they just killed him. The Giants just hit everything up the middle.

Even with the homer, the bullpen still pitched very well.

Mets Post Game: Nationals 4, Mets 3

The Numbers:

  • Chris Capuano started for the Mets and went 5 2/3 innings. He let up 10 hits, 4 runs, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts.
  • Byrdak pitched a scoreless 1/3 of an inning and Beato pitched 2 scoreless innings.
  • Ike Davis went 2 for 4 with an RBI double.
  • Reyes had 2 hits a double and a sac fly and David Wright went 0 for 4 with an RBI groundout.
  • Josh Thole had 3 hits.

Chris Capuano tonight was good for a 5th starter as he kept the Mets in the game. I like how he did not walk anyone, but was concerned over the 10 hits.

Ike Davis is hitting over .350 and it’s almost the end of April.

The Mets are still playing well, but just missed out today. 1 hit with RISP and they win today’s game.

The winning streak had to end sometime, let’s start a new one in Philly!

Grade for the Game: B

Mets Post Game: Mets 6, Nationals 3

The Numbers:

  • Daniel Murphy had a huge game going 2 for 2 with a solo homer and a 2 run double in the 8th and 9th inning.
  • R.A. Dickey started for the Mets and went 6 2/3 innings let up 8 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, and 8 strikeouts.
  • Hu hit a game tying sac fly and Turner had an RBI single.
  • Bay and Ike each had 2 hits.
  • Wright, Reyes, Harris, and Nickeas all had hits.
  • Igarashi, K-rod, and Beato all had scoreless outings.

Dickey looked really good tonight. He had his control back and pitched well. He kept the Mets in the game.

Bay has been a catalyst for this club since the moment he stepped foot in the diamond. Different player so far in 2011.

Reyes hit a ball today and went for a triple but was called for oversliding the bag for the second out of the 8th inning. Reyes flipped, Terry was out there before you could blink and no body got thrown out because it was such a bad call. Seriously a different situation and they might have been out of the game. Chip Hale had to hold Reyes back from the Umpire.

Daniel Murphy’s home run was huge for the Mets tying the game after the terrible call on Reyes. Gave everyone Mets related energy and in my opinion won the game.

What a game for the Mets, it seemed all the air was taken out of the balloon when Reyes was called out but Murphy came up and hit the homer and right there when I saw the energy from everybody I knew we were going to win this game. Even down one in the 9th after the unearned run, I still felt something special for this game. That Murphy home run just…words can not describe his performance tonight.

AMAZIN’ NIGHT METS! LETS GO! 6 IN A ROW!

Grade for the Game: A+ (It takes a lot to get an A+ out of me)

Mets Post Game: Mets 6, Nationals 4

The Numbers:

  • Chris Young started and went 4 2/3 innings while letting up 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
  • Ike Davis went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 runs scored.
  • Jason Bay went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored.
  • Murphy and Beltran both hit doubles.
  • Thole hit the game winning go ahead double in the 6th to get the Mets a lead.
  • Pridie had 2 hits and Wright hit an RBI groundout.
  • Igarashi pitched 1/3 scoreless innings and Buchholz pitched 2 scoreless.
  • Izzy pitched an inning and gave up a run. K-Rod nailed it down in the 9th.

I was the most impressed today about Beltran. His double in my mind should have been a triple that he ran out well, but they gave Werth an error.

The ‘Pen looks better everytime out.

Young did have some rust, but you expect that after not pitching in a game for awhile. I expect him to be fine.

Ike Davis does something great everynight, as he made a great play to end the game tonight.

The 2 run double by Thole could turn him around this year.

That’s 5 in a row, Let’s keep it goin!

Grade for the Game: B+

Mets Post Game: Mets 8, D-Backs 4

The Numbers:

  • Jon Niese started today and went 7 innings, 6 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
  • David Wright went 2 for 4 with 2 homers, 3 RBI, a walk, and a stolen base.
  • Jason Pridie hit a 3 run homer for his first big league homer.
  • Beltran and Ike each had 2 hits and a double.
  • Reyes and Bay had a hit each.
  • Byrdak, Carrasco, and Igarashi finished up the game.

Niese looked really good today using his four seamer more than usual. He brought the walks down from his last start.

It’s great that David Wright showing power, proving 2009 was a fluke.

I know everybody is saying it, but Bay in this lineup makes everything feel different.

Ike Davis is the hands down MVP of this club so far this year.

First sweep of the year… this looks like the Mets at home from last year.
