Mets Post Game: Mets 7, Padres 3

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Dillon Gee went 6 2/3 innings let up 5 hits, 1 run, 4 walks, and 5 strikeouts.
  2. David Wright hit a 3 run homer off of Mat Latos to give the Mets their first lead of the night.
  3. Angel Pagan went 2 for 5 with 3 RBIs.

Jason Bay is in another Bay-like slump. 0 for his last 20 at the plate is just a horrific slump at the dish.

Dillon Gee has 11 wins on the year now and broke a streak of 36 straight starts giving up 2 runs or more. This kid can be great.

Igarashi is awful.

Hopefully the homer from Wright can get him going. We will have to see though.

Mets Post Game: Marlins 5, Mets 4

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. David Wright went 3 for 4 with a 2 run homer.
  2. Bobby Parnell gave up 3 hits and 2 runs in an inning.
  3. Jason Bay hit an RBI single.

Gee really settled down after a rough start. His control was rough, but he fought through it to get through the game pitching alright.

David Wright came back on fire. He had 6 hits in this 3 game series against the Marlins including a go-ahead homer tonight.

Jose Reyes…..Every day.

Bobby Parnell was afraid to throw his slider today. He threw all fastballs and got hit very hard today.

What is Wrong With Fred Wilpon?!

I am no expert, insider, or 10 year Mets blogger. I am a fan…a really pissed off fan. Unless he comes out and explains something I have essentially lost all respect for Fred Wilpon. No matter how mad you are at how your team is playing you do not come out and call everyone on your team shit. Apologies for the language, but that is what he said. He called the team he owns complete garbage. He went out and for absolutely no reason said that David Wright—the 5 time all-star who played hurt—is not a superstar.

I mean, we are all angry when the team isn’t playing well and say things we don’t mean, but Wilpon went and talked to this reporter multiple times. Did Wilpon think this article would not be published because he was going to be raptured? There is just no excuse for this. This team is not that bad; we have Ike, Beato, and a great and underrated minor league squad.

I don’t know about you guys but I am offended by these comments. I consider myself a die-hard and the owner called the team I live and die for crap.  Neither Terry nor Wright would comment on what happened and would not back Fred. The fact that he could say such things makes me think he’s close to a sale of the team. There is no reason anybody should call their own players garbage because they will not want to win for you. Thanks Fred, as of right now, you don’t deserve this team and don’t sound like you want it. Also, you probably drove David Wright away from New York. I am angry as hell at Fred and just can’t believe he would make such out-of-line comments.

Yes this is a rant—I am a fan and it’s what I think. As a fan, I no longer want that man near my favorite team.

Mets Post Game: Mets 4, Rockies 3

The Numbers:

  • Mike Pelfrey went 6 2/3 innings and let up 6 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts. He also hit an RBI double from the plate.
  • Ike Davis had a hit which what a 2 run single in the 1st.
  • Izzy, Byrdak, and K-Rod all pitched scoreless outings tonight.
  • Jose Reyes hit a double while Paulino and Turner had base hits.
  • Daniel Murphy had 2 hits tonight.

Mike Pelfrey had a great outing tonight as he controlled all of his pitches. I am still personally not a fan of Mike Pelfrey, but he pitched well tonight and got the win.The runs he gave up were all on solo homers.

Now here is the play that I had a problem with. The play that Ike got hurt. Ike and Wright collided on a ball that was popped in the air in front of the pitchers mound. Ike hurt his calf, however the collision was not the problem to me. Pelfrey was the problem. Pelfrey should have either fielded the ball OR helped Ike and Wright out and told them they were near eachother. What did he do? He stood there, and watched. Help out your team mates Pelf.

Tim Byrdak pitched great as he got Helton on a 3 pitch strikeout to end the 8th.

What a strange at bat right after the rain delay. The at-bat consisted of 2 pitchers, and 2 hitters. It was Pelfrey vs. Fowler before the rain delay, then after it was Izzy vs. Fowler. Fowler fouled a ball off his knee and came out of the game so it was Izzy vs. Spilborghs in one at bat. Weird Stuff.

The Mets are not 3-8 in one run games.

Mets Post Game: Giants 7, Mets 6 F/10

The Numbers:

  • R.A. Dickey pitched 6 ok innings tonight and let up 7 hits, 5 runs, 1 walk, and 1 strikeout.
  • Jose Reyes went 3 for 3 with 3 walks, a double, and an RBI.
  • Gee and Izzy got through the 7th and 8th While K-Rod got out of a 1st and 3rd 0 out jam unharmed in the 9th.
  • Buchholz gave up the go ahead homer in the 10th to Aubrey Huff.
  • Carlos Beltran went 2 for 4 with a 3 run homer.
  • Ike Davis went 1 for 4 with a 2 run homer.
  • Wright and Pridie had a hit each while Thole got 3 hits.

This was a game that the Mets should have won. They had bases loaded and 1 out in the bottom of the 9th and grounded into a double play. Clearly a shame.

Jose Reyes was spectacular getting on base 6 straight times today. If he can play like that, Sandy will surely try and resign him.

Ike Davis and Carlos Beltran both hit rockets, Carlos’ was a liner, and Ike’s was normal for him…a bomb.

R.A. Dickey looked great through 3, but those 4th and 5th innings where he gave up 6 runs they just killed him. The Giants just hit everything up the middle.

Even with the homer, the bullpen still pitched very well.

Mets Post Game: Mets 8, D-Backs 4

The Numbers:

  • Jon Niese started today and went 7 innings, 6 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
  • David Wright went 2 for 4 with 2 homers, 3 RBI, a walk, and a stolen base.
  • Jason Pridie hit a 3 run homer for his first big league homer.
  • Beltran and Ike each had 2 hits and a double.
  • Reyes and Bay had a hit each.
  • Byrdak, Carrasco, and Igarashi finished up the game.

Niese looked really good today using his four seamer more than usual. He brought the walks down from his last start.

It’s great that David Wright showing power, proving 2009 was a fluke.

I know everybody is saying it, but Bay in this lineup makes everything feel different.

Ike Davis is the hands down MVP of this club so far this year.

First sweep of the year… this looks like the Mets at home from last year.

Mets Post Game: Mets 4, D-Backs 1

The Numbers:

  • Mike Pelfrey started and posted a line of 7 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
  • Ike Davis hit a go ahead 2 run home run in the 7th inning that just cleared the orange line in center field.
  • Carlos Beltran went 1 for 3 with an RBI single.
  • Jason Bay hit a double and struck out twice.
  • Reyes, Murphy, and Nickeas also had hits tonight.
  • Wright went o for 2 with 2 walks and a steal.
  • Izzy pitched a scoreless 8th and K-Rod pitched a scoreless 9th to get the save.

This was a huge start for Mike Pelfrey, after runners were on first and third with nobody out to start the game, he retired the side without a run scoring including a strikeout of Justin Upton. This was also a team that he has never beat, until tonight. He looked so much better tonight than he has all of this year. Hopefully this will stay.

Ike has been such a clutch hitter all year hitting a huge homer to straight away center field. He is leading the Mets in RBI this season.

This lineup looks more confident with Bay in that they feel they can score whenever. Hopefully Bay can show us some power this year.

Izzy has been a force in the ‘pen this year showing that he is not done yet in the majors.

Mets Post Game: Mets 9, Astros 1

The Numbers:

  • Jason Bay made his season debut and hit a double and score 2 runs.
  • Chris Capuano started and went 7 innings and let up 6 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
  • Buchholz pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief while striking out 2.
  • Mike Nickeas, David Wright, and Ike Davis all launched solo homers.
  • Wright broke out of his slump going 2 for 3.
  • Beltran and Turner also had hits.

Jason Bay looked good hitting the double in his return, the one problem still is the two strikeouts.

Capuano gave the Mets exactly what they needed going 7 strong innings and not walking many. Buchholz also pitched well to save the others in the ‘pen.

Ike’s homer was a BOMB. I mean it went way over the apple to straight away center. That’s why I love him.

Congrats to Mike Nickeas on his first big league homer. Love the silent treatment after he hit it.

It was great to see David hit well tonight, hopefully this will get him going.

The Mets need to play like this every night in order to get wins. They turned double plays, did not strand runners, and got outs. They made no errors and had a solid defense. This is they type of talent this team has to go out there and do this nightly. Good job guys.

Mets Post Game: Astros 4, Mets 3

The Numbers:

  • R.A. Dickey started today and went 8 innings, let up 8 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
  • Izzy pitched a hitless inning.
  • Daniel Murphy had 3 hits and tied the game with a go ahead 2-run homer.
  • Reyes had 4 hits and a run scored tonight.
  • Beltran had 3 hits, 2 doubles, and an RBI.
  • Ike and Harris each had a hit.

R.A. Dickey was outstanding—he’s the first pitcher of the year to pitch through 8. He gave a tired bullpen the night off.

Pagan tried to score on a weak wild pitch and would have been safe if he had slid correctly.

The Thole play confused me badly. Why would Reyes be off the bag if the ball was popped up? I mean come on, you’re not going to go anywhere. Get back to the bag and we might win this game.

Wright is in a 0 for 18 slump.

Beltran is swinging a red hot bat.

As Keith Hernandez said, “This is like a horror movie!”
