Mike Pelfrey after his warmups today.

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Dan Murphy went 2 for 4.
  2. Acosta and Parnell pitched 2 scoreless innings.
  3. Ike Davis did not have a hit, but made 2 spectacular defensive plays.

I was at the game today, Mike Pelfrey looked awful. I was watching his bullpen, and his sinker had absolutely no movement. It showed to with his 2 homers given up. I am VERY concerned with Mike Pelfrey this season.

Juan Lagares made a great diving catch right next to my seats. It was one of the coolest things I have ever witnessed. He is a great athlete.

Daniel Murphy is a pure hitter.

Ike Davis has an incredibly high baseball IQ. He saw the runner going to 3rd base and made an incredible play that would only appeal to people who truly understand the game.

Mets Post Game: Mets 11, Phillies 2

Box Score

3 Standout Performances

  1. Scott Hairston went 3 for 5 with 5 RBI including a 2nd deck 3 run homer.
  2. Daniel Murphy went 3 for 5 with a solo homer.
  3. Jon Niese went 7 innings, gave up 2 runs (1 earned), 6 hits, 1 walk, and 6 strikeouts.

My good friend who is a diehard Phillies fan, told me that Jon Niese can not be an ace pitcher in the big leagues. He showed today, that he can dominate a lineup with consistancy. I really like Niese.

Hairston today may have made Sandy Alderson’s job about what to do with Carlos Beltran a little easier today as he exploded with 5 RBI today. The last Met in my memory to hit a 2nd deck homer was Luis Castillo…that was a funny day.

Jason Bay today was really good. He got 2 hits and a stolen base. Just one hit at a time Bay…

I don’t understand how Daniel Murphy gets so much hate. The only thing wrong with his is that he can not field for his life. He is such a good hitter and should be starting daily when Wright and Reyes return.

Grade for the Game: A                  COME ON COLE!!!

Mets Post Game: Giants 3, Mets 1

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Capuano started and was great. He went 6 innings, let up 2 runs on 4 hits with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts.
  2. Daniel Murphy went 1 for 4 with an RBI double.
  3. Josh Thole went 1 for 2 with a double.

Capuano was great tonight. After a rough first inning of getting the ball stung, he really settled down and kept the giants at bay. I honestly thought after the first inning tonight, he was in for a 3 or 4 inning start. Very tough loss for Capuano tonight.

All of the Mets hits tonight were 2 out doubles. Kind of strange how things work out that way.

The rules with aces are that if you don’t get to them in the first, you probably won’t get to him at all. This happened tonight as the Mets got 1 run off Lincecum in the first, however it was not enough as he shut them down for the rest of his start.

Grade for the Game: B

Sidenote:

Congrats to Derek Jeter on his 3000th career hit and an outstanding game. Being a baseball fan, I really enjoy that type of history. Also, Jeter is one of the few Yankees I have respect for, he’s a classy guy who plays the game the right way even during the steroid era. Send all the hate you want, I am happy for Jeter.

Mets Post Game: Dodgers 6, Mets 0

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Dillon Gee went 5 2/3 innings and let up 5 hits, 6 runs (5 earned), 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts.
  2. Ruben Tejada went 1 for 2 with 2 walks and his first stolen base of the season.
  3. Daniel Murphy had 2 hits.

Dillon Gee had control issues tonight. He didn’t have anything with the walks, but he threw 4 wild pitches tonight. I would be shocked if he had thrown 4 all year. His curveball looked like he could not control it. Good work though 5 today though, everything fell apart in the 6th inning.

Ruben Tejada did a real gutsy thing today and stole third down 6 with 2 outs. He made it safely, but you can’t steal 3rd down by 6. You never want to make the first or third out of an inning at third base. It is something he has to learn and I’m sure TC will talk to him about it.

Murphy has been a hits machine since he has had a full time starting job. I really like what he has done this year.

Mets Post Game: Pirates 3, Mets 1

By the Numbers:

  • Mike Pelfrey went 7 innings, let up 4 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks, and 6 strikeouts.
  • Jose Reyes was hitless with a sac fly.
  • Daniel Murphy had 2 hits and is now hitting .305 on the year.
  • Tejada and Duda had a hit each.
  • Byrdak walked in the 3rd run with the bases loaded.

Mike Pelfrey was so good tonight, he retired 21 of his final 22 batters after giving up 3 hits to the first 3 batters of the game. He really settled down only giving up 1 homer to Brandon Wood.

Jose Reyes was robbed of a hit on his Sac fly, Duda ran the Mets out of the inning as he was doubled off first. This stopped the rally the Mets had going only resulting in 1 run for the inning.

Daniel Murphy just keeps hitting, and hitting, and hitting.

Tejada got another hit and made another great defensive play tonight, he is really playing well for the team.

Grade for the Game: B-

Mets Post Game: Pirates 3, Mets 2

By the Numbers:

  • Dickey started and threw a complete game loss giving up 3 runs on 8 hits. He walked 2 and struck out 4.
  • Jose Reyes had ANOTHER multi-hit game as did Ruben Tejada.
  • Beltran and Murphy had RBI hits.
  • Lucas Duda hit a double.
  • Bay and Paulino had a hit each.

Dickey did not deserve the loss that he got tonight. He gave the bullpen a night off and really only deserved to give up 1 earned run. His year ERA is now below 4.

Jose Reyes gets multi-hit games every night it seems.

Bay actually got a hit! He is really messed up right now though.

Lucas Duda only had 1 hit, but he is killing the ball since his re-call.

I am now a believer in the hitter that Ruben Tejada can be. Really doing a good job for this team.

Grade for the Game: B

Mets Post Game: Phillies 6, Mets 4

The Numbers:

  • Chris Capuano went 6 great innings, gave up 4 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), 1 walk, and 8 strikeouts.
  • Justin Turner went 4 for 5 with an RBI.
  • Reyes, Beltran, and Paulino had 2 hits each.
  • Angel Pagan made his return tonight and had a 2 hit game.
  • Izzy gave up a run in the 8th and K-Rod gave up 3 in the 9th.
  • Ruben Tejada went 0 f0r 3 with  16 pitch walk.

Capuano was spectacular again tonight holding the Phillies to 1 earned run while striking out 8 men in just 6 innings. He only threw 77 pitches but was pinch hit for in the middle of a rally.

The at-bat by Tejada was amazing. 16 pitches and drawing the walk is just the type of pesky hitter that he needs to be. I am very happy with his production so far.

The Mets made some amazing diving catches in the outfield today, but also botched a few balls. One was an error by Beltran and one was a ball that Murphy should have caught at first, but it got by him.

Justin Turner is a great hitter so far. I don’t know how you can take both him and Tejada out of the lineup once Wright returns. That is going to be a tough choice to make.

Angel Pagan looked like the man from 2010 today getting 2 hits in 4 at-bats. He needs to be back to that form for this team to be succesful.

Mets Post Game: Mets 7, Cubs 4 F/7

The Numbers:

  • Dillon Gee pitched a 6 inning complete game going 6 innings letting up 4 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
  • Every Met starter, besides the pitcher, had a base hit tonight.
  • Carlos Beltran had 2 hits including a double and triple while driving in 2.
  • Tejada, Reyes, and Pridie had 2 hits each.
  • Turner drove in 1 run, Thole drove in 1, and Murphy drove in 2.

That was a nice and easy complete game for Gee. He was great after the first inning where he let up nothing over the next 5. The Mets are 6-0 in his starts.

Great offense tonight although they were helped by taking 12 straight balls including 2 bases loaded walks.

Everybody contributed tonight and they moved runners and did not need the long ball to drive guys in. Great effort all around.

Grade for the Game: B+

Mets Post Game: Mets 2, Yankees 1

The Numbers:

  • Justin Turner was spectacular again knocking 3 hits including an RBI double.
  • Dickey looked like the man from last year going 6 innings only letting up 4 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 6.
  • Daniel Murphy homered tonight. A go ahead shot in the 6th.
  • Beltran, F-Mart, and Pridie all had hits tonight.
  • O’Connor, Izzy, and K-Rod all pitched scoreless innings to end it.

Don’t worry K-Rod, the saves are ok at Yankee stadium this year. Castillo is gone remember?

Dickey was phenomenal tonight getting back to what he did at his best last year. His best signs were only the 4 hits allowed and that he struck out 6 Bankee, I mean Yankee batters. His only bad mark was that homer from Texiera. IT IS HIGH IT IS FAR IT IS GONE!! OH BABY MARK SENDS A TEXT MESSAGE, YOUR ON THE MARK TEXIERA. (I couldn’t resist making fun of that ridiculous broadcaster.)

Turner may be the hottest player in the NL right now. RBIs in 6 straight games, unbelievable. Player of the week?

Murph’s homer was clutch and it got Dickey a win that he desperately needed.

Jose Reyes made an amazing game saving catch in the 5th to throw out a runner. That is why he needs to be resigned.

THE YANKEES LOSE THEEEEEEEE YANKEES LOOOOOSE! Wow I really need to stop making fun of that man….

Come into Yankee stadium and taking game one from the bombers is a huge statement from this team. And my friend whose a Red Sox fan greatly appreciated it.

Daniel Murphy’s Walk

First off, sorry for the lack of posting this weekend, if you followed my twitter, you would know that I was very busy all weekend. Anyways, back to baseball, Daniel Murphy walked today, I know amazing right? Actually it was weird because he walked on ball 3. After a pick off was thrown away, Murphy fouled off one 2-2 pitch and then took ball 3 and promptly flipped his bat into the dugout and walked to first base. He thought it was ball 4 and apparently so did the Astros’ Manager and all the umpires. It was the first time I’d seen it happen, but with a little research I learned it did happen more than once. Former Red Sox player Coco Crisp walked on ball 3 against the Orioles. This walk was more significant however because on the very next pitch Justin Turner blasted a 3-run homer into left to add to the lead. This might have been the strangest play this year.
