Mets Post Game: D-Backs 6, Mets 4

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  • Mike Baxter went 2 for 4 with an RBI triple.
  • Ruben Tejada went 2 for 3 with a 2 run double tonight.
  • Mike Pelfrey went 4 alright innings although he left in the 5th after getting a ball off of his pitching elbow.

I don’t know about you guys, but I am sick of the inconsistency that Mike Pelfrey brings to the ball park. I understand that tonight he got injured but still some nights he will look like an ace and others he will look like garbage. I don’t understand.

Mike Baxter has been a great spark since he became a Met. Yes I do understand that it has been a short sample size but I can see him getting a ton of playing time in right for the rest of the year.

Beato and Parnell both looked good tonight. Parnell pitched a scoreless inning and Beato gave up 1 run in 2 innings of work tonight.

Mets Post Game: D-Backs 4, Mets 3

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  • Jason Bay went 3 for 4 with an RBI single off Ian Kennedy
  • Angel Pagan went 2 for 5 with a run scored.
  • Dillon Gee went 5 innings, gave up 4 runs, and struck out 3.

The Mets bullpen was the best thing of the night. throwing 3 shutout innings with their crappiest relievers against the hard hitting Diamond Backs. Iggy, Byrdak, and Acosta pitched very well tonight.

Jason Bay has been on fire as of late. He has been hitting the ball hard and not striking out as much.

Dillon Gee had awful control tonight. All of his pitches were up in the zone and not moving well at all. I have a feeling he is going through a little bit of a dead arm period.

Mets Post Game: Mets 8, D-Backs 4

The Numbers:

  • Jon Niese started today and went 7 innings, 6 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
  • David Wright went 2 for 4 with 2 homers, 3 RBI, a walk, and a stolen base.
  • Jason Pridie hit a 3 run homer for his first big league homer.
  • Beltran and Ike each had 2 hits and a double.
  • Reyes and Bay had a hit each.
  • Byrdak, Carrasco, and Igarashi finished up the game.

Niese looked really good today using his four seamer more than usual. He brought the walks down from his last start.

It’s great that David Wright showing power, proving 2009 was a fluke.

I know everybody is saying it, but Bay in this lineup makes everything feel different.

Ike Davis is the hands down MVP of this club so far this year.

First sweep of the year… this looks like the Mets at home from last year.

Mets Post Game: Mets 4, D-Backs 1

The Numbers:

  • Mike Pelfrey started and posted a line of 7 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
  • Ike Davis hit a go ahead 2 run home run in the 7th inning that just cleared the orange line in center field.
  • Carlos Beltran went 1 for 3 with an RBI single.
  • Jason Bay hit a double and struck out twice.
  • Reyes, Murphy, and Nickeas also had hits tonight.
  • Wright went o for 2 with 2 walks and a steal.
  • Izzy pitched a scoreless 8th and K-Rod pitched a scoreless 9th to get the save.

This was a huge start for Mike Pelfrey, after runners were on first and third with nobody out to start the game, he retired the side without a run scoring including a strikeout of Justin Upton. This was also a team that he has never beat, until tonight. He looked so much better tonight than he has all of this year. Hopefully this will stay.

Ike has been such a clutch hitter all year hitting a huge homer to straight away center field. He is leading the Mets in RBI this season.

This lineup looks more confident with Bay in that they feel they can score whenever. Hopefully Bay can show us some power this year.

Izzy has been a force in the ‘pen this year showing that he is not done yet in the majors.

Mets Post Game: D-Backs 14, Mets 1

The Numbers:

  1. Ike Davis put the only Met run on the board with a sac fly.
  2. No Met got more than 1 hit today.
  3. Niese went 4 1/3 and gave up 7 runs, 6 earned.
  4. Perez gave up 4 runs in his 2 innings of work today.
  5. Dessens pitched 2 2/3 innings and gave up 3 runs, 2 earned.

Thank god we are done with the D-Backs for this year. 1-6 against a last place team is embarrassing.

Niese struggled today…he is a rookie so I am not bothered.

Ollie can’t pitch. We would get more out of him if we converted him to a left fielder.

The Mets don’t do well against pitchers who they haven’t seen before.

Mets Post Game: Mets 5, D-Backs 4

The Numbers:

  1. Jesus Feliciano hit a lead off triple in the 9th inning and scored the winning run.
  2. Carlos Beltran hit a walk off sac fly to end the game.
  3. David Wright hit a 2 run double to tie the game after the bullpen had blown the lead. Wright ended the day with 3 RBIs.
  4. Jose Reyes hit an RBI single.
  5. Takahashi was terrific tonight going 6 innings one 1 run ball. He struck out a career high 10 batters and seems to be on a roll.
  6. Bobby Parnell didn’t have it giving up 3 runs in 0 innings of work.
  7. Acosta retired all 4 batters he faced…again.

Hey we beat the terrible diamondbacks…for once.

Takahashi was great and had his stuff all night long. He showed we did not need a starter.

Jerry needs to stop riding the hot hand in the bullpen and get a good reliable 8th inning guy.

David Wright has turned a corner and is back to where he was before the 2006 home run derby.

Mets Post Game: D-Backs 4, Mets 3 F/14

The Numbers:

  1. Jason Bay took an 0 for 6 tonight with 4 strikeouts…in a row. That is just a terrible night.
  2. Rob Barajas and Angel Pagan each homered tonight for the Mets.
  3. Carlos Beltran got his first RBI of the season with a single off of Haren.
  4. Bobby Parnell hit 101 on the Radar gun to get a strikeout.
  5. Oliver Perez came back off the DL to pitch a 1 1/3 inning of scary relief to keep the game scoreless.
  6. Nieve gave up the game winner to Chris Snyder

Can the Mets really not score off of the worst bullpen in the national league? That is just pathetic.

Jason Bay is starting to scare me. I’m starting to think he will go 0 for the rest of the year.

Oliver Perez hasn’t changed since the DL trip which is not good.

Mets Post Game: D-Backs 3, Mets 2

The Numbers:

  1. Mets offense could not score until the 8th inning. The Mets are still struggling big time.
  2. Josh Thole hit his first career home run in the 8th inning tonight.
  3. Angel Pagan homered in the 9th inning to bring the Mets within 1 run.
  4. Jose Reyes got 2 hits tonight and did not score.
  5. R.A. Dickey pitched great once again but, somehow got a loss tonight. He went 7 innings and gave up 3 runs.
  6. Bobby Parnell pitched a scoreless inning.

No offense again? This is starting to worry me…

Congrats to Josh Thole, he will be a great player in the near future.

The Mets fought back tonight which was something good out of this.

R.A. Dickey continues to impress and i am loving this guy more and more every day.

Mets Post Game: D-Backs 13, Mets 2

The Numbers:

  1. In their returns to the lineup, Reyes went 2 for 5 with an RBI, Castillo went 2 for 4, and Beltran went 1 for 4.
  2. Jason Bay went 0 for 3 with 2 strikeouts.
  3. Angel Pagan had an RBI hit.
  4. David Wright went 2 for 3
  5. Mike Pelfrey lasted 1 1/3 inning, giving up 6 runs and throwing over 70 pitches. 50 of those were in the same inning.
  6. Fernando Nieve pitched 1 solid inning of relief but when he tried to go 2 innings, he gave up a 5 spot.
  7. Raul Valdes pitched 2 2/3 of 2 hit baseball to keep the Mets in the game.

Why can’t the Mets hit anymore? Even with all of our regulars in the lineup we can only put up 2 runs. We haven’t scored 4 or more runs for a long time now. I am starting to get worried for the Mets; they’ve got to start hitting.

I feel bad for Pelfrey, he has regressed and has no idea why. His body language on the mound is something that we have not seen this year. He was hitting 95 on the radar gun, but all of his pitches were up with no movement.

Why does Jerry love Fernando Nieve so much? He simply can not pitch so why is he still on the team? I don’t understand. We have a hard thrower in Parnell so that can’t be it. If someone is sent down so Perez can come up off the DL, it should be Nieve. He is our worst reliever.

Same with Dessens, give the guy a break! He is pitching basically every day and is starting to pitch badly.
