Mets Post Game: Mets 7, Cubs 4 F/7

The Numbers:

  • Dillon Gee pitched a 6 inning complete game going 6 innings letting up 4 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
  • Every Met starter, besides the pitcher, had a base hit tonight.
  • Carlos Beltran had 2 hits including a double and triple while driving in 2.
  • Tejada, Reyes, and Pridie had 2 hits each.
  • Turner drove in 1 run, Thole drove in 1, and Murphy drove in 2.

That was a nice and easy complete game for Gee. He was great after the first inning where he let up nothing over the next 5. The Mets are 6-0 in his starts.

Great offense tonight although they were helped by taking 12 straight balls including 2 bases loaded walks.

Everybody contributed tonight and they moved runners and did not need the long ball to drive guys in. Great effort all around.

Grade for the Game: B+

Mets Post Game: Pirates 2, Mets 1

The Numbers:

  1. Johan Santana pitched a complete game loss, gave up 2 runs, and struck out 9. This was his second consecutive CG loss.
  2. Carlos Beltran drove in the only run of the game with a sac fly in the first.
  3. Jose Reyes continues to be red-hot going 2 for 4 today.
  4. Ike Davis is heating up going 2 for 4 today with 2 singles.

2 consecutive CG losses for Johan. And I thought the offense was back….

I hope Ike can go on a hot streak. His at bats looked much better today against the Pirates.

Hey..a road series win! We are officially a better road team than the 1909 Washington Senators.

Grade for the Game: C-

Mets Post Game: Mets 3, Red 0

What’s Important:

Hitting:

  1. Johan Santana was tired of the no run support so he decided to have a 12 pitch AB and hit his first career home run to get himself a run. Also, good job by Gary Cohen calling it saying that he is going to hit one soon.
  2. Jason Bay hit a big 2 run, 2 out single to give Johan some insurance.
  3. Jose Reyes went 2 for 4 in his first game since his side injury and brought speed back to the lineup.

Pitching:

  1. Johan Santana was just spectacular tonight going 9 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks, and 5 strikeouts. This was his first complete game shutout since the second to last game of the year in 2008.
  2. There is nothing to say because no one else pitched tonight.

Grade for the Game: A+

Johan Santana had his best game of the year tonight with his shutout. Also, how often does a player end up tops in the hitting and pitching category. That means it was a good night. Bay was good and so was Wright in this game. But, all attention goes to Santana.
