Mets Post Game: Mets 4, Dodgers 2

The Numbers:

  • Dillon Gee started for the Mets and went 5 2/3 good innings letting up 7 hit, 2 runs, 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
  • Justin Turner hit a go ahead, pinch hit, 400 ft, 2 run single to give the Mets the lead in the bottom of the 8th.
  • Jason Pridie went 3 for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored.
  •  Reyes went had 2 hits and an RBI single.
  • Wright, Beltran, and Murphy each had a hit tonight.
  • O’Connor, Iggy, Byrdak, and K-Rod all had scoreless outings.

For being a spot starter, and a guy who needs awhile to warm up, Dillon Gee pitched great. 5 1/3 innings and kept the Mets in the game, that is all you can ask in a situation like that.

Turner’s “single” was huge tonight. I put single in quotes because it was 400ft deep into center field. My guess is that he starts tomorrow against Kershaw.

The amazing Reyes scuffled a little on the basepaths, but in all he had another good game. He is starting to get those hits with RISP.

The bullpen was fantastic tonight, especially getting out of their own jams.

Jason Pridie continues to surprise me, he just continues to make good plays in center, and hit a little bit to the surprise of most.

Also, the Mets ended Andre Ethier’s hitting streak at 30 tonight.

Not Just a Baseball Game

If you don’t know the news of Osama bin Laden by now, well how can you not have? It is everywhere. Osama bin Laden is dead. U.S navy seals shot in Pakistan. President Obama announced the news at 11:30 last night, and in my opinion did a flawless job with the entire operation. Now here is the thing, the Mets and Phillies was the only game that night during the time the news about Osama. The crowds were chanting U-S-A and the players did not know until deep into this 14 inning game. The crowds united and no body cared about what was going on in the game. We were one family of Americans being joyful of the death of a terrorist who mass murdered thousands of people. To me, the Mets were going to win this game no matter what. Sort of like the feeling on September 21, 2001 when Piazza hit the game winning homer. Honestly, I did not care who won this game. I actually did not watch the game while waiting for Obama’s speech. No body was. It was just a joyful night all around the US. The Phillies fans actually did something right that night. Anyways here are some stats and regular post game numbers, the opinion was just first today.

  • Ronny Paulino got 5 hits including the game winning double.
  • Chris Young went 7 innings and allowed just 2 hits to the Phillies. He seems to pitch very well against them.
  • Beato continues to impress and pitch well.
  • Ike slumped to an 0 for 6 night.

Rot in Hell Osama

Mets Post Game: Mets 6, Nationals 4

The Numbers:

  • Chris Young started and went 4 2/3 innings while letting up 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
  • Ike Davis went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 runs scored.
  • Jason Bay went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored.
  • Murphy and Beltran both hit doubles.
  • Thole hit the game winning go ahead double in the 6th to get the Mets a lead.
  • Pridie had 2 hits and Wright hit an RBI groundout.
  • Igarashi pitched 1/3 scoreless innings and Buchholz pitched 2 scoreless.
  • Izzy pitched an inning and gave up a run. K-Rod nailed it down in the 9th.

I was the most impressed today about Beltran. His double in my mind should have been a triple that he ran out well, but they gave Werth an error.

The ‘Pen looks better everytime out.

Young did have some rust, but you expect that after not pitching in a game for awhile. I expect him to be fine.

Ike Davis does something great everynight, as he made a great play to end the game tonight.

The 2 run double by Thole could turn him around this year.

That’s 5 in a row, Let’s keep it goin!

Mets Post Game: Mets 7, Phillies 1

The Numbers:

  • Chris Young had the overall biggest day for the Mets pitching with a line of 5 1/3 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 3 walks, and 7 strikeouts.
  • Young didn’t only pitch well, he hit well too, going 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • David Wright had a huge game going 4 for 5 with 2 runs and 2 RBI.
  • Hariston, Ike, and Emaus each had 1 hit and 1 RBI each.
  • Reyes had 2 hits and Hu had 1.
  • Carrasco pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief only letting up 1 hit and striking out 1.
  • Byrdak threw an inning of relief and so did Bobby Parnell.

Chris Young was absolutely sensational tonight, he got a little tired towards the end but was still dominant on the mound AND at the plate. He was the first Met pitcher ever to get 3 hits in a game.

David Wright’s 4 hits were his first 4 hits game in over 2 years, he is locked in at the plate.

I love the way the offense worked tonight against Hamels. They were taking pitches and controling the at-bats. They weren’t chasing any pitches and they put good swings on the ball.

This team just has a different feeling than the 2010 team. It has more life.

Grade for the Game: B

Mets Post Game: Mets 5, Braves 4

The Numbers:

  • Chris Young made his Mets debut today and threw 2 perfect innings while striking out 2.
  • Misch and Bonser combined for 5 innings, 2 hits, and 2 strikeouts.
  • Perez pitched 2 bad innings giving up 4 hits, 4 runs, 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
  • Murphy went 1 for 3 with a 2 run double off Beachy.
  • Russ Adams hit a go ahead 3 run homer to get the win for the Mets.

Yet another comeback win for this team, it’s only spring but still I love it.

Chris Young was spectacular today in his 2 perfect innings.

Ollie Perez did awful and I think he will never get it back.

I’m disappointed that Ike hasn’t got a hit yet this spring. It will come.

My Expectations of Chris Young

I think Chris could be the steal of the off season. He is a great pitcher and he proved that while he was healthy last year. He went 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA in 20 innings of work. This guy got 1M on a one year deal. If he pitches just 6-7 starts for the team then I think he earned his money. However, I expect much more out of him in 2011 on and off the field. He is a perfect pitcher for Citi Field. A flyball pitcher in a pitchers ball park, I think he will do great. Also, I expect him to mentor Mike Pelfrey off the field. A veteran right handed pitcher whose bread and butter pitch is their fastball, I expect Pelfrey to follow Young wherever he goes. It is also the mental consideration for Young. This may be a make or break career year for him. If Young does bad, or gets hurt again, I would not be surprised if he retired. I expect Young to be a quality pitcher until Johan returns.
