Mets Post Game: Mets 3, Marlins 2

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Jason Bay actually had a quality-ish game going 3 for 4 with an RBI single.
  2. Lucas Duda had only 1 hit which was a clutch RBI single to give the Mets the lead.
  3. David Wright hit 2 doubles tonight while scoring a run.

Chris Capuano really struggled tonight being lucky that he gave up 2 runs in his start throwing 100 pitches in 5 innings. It was a very bad start, but he did a great job fighting through it.

Jason Bay got lucky tonight. He got an RBI hit off the pitcher, a swinging bunt, and one solid single. Whatever works for you Jason, whatever works man…

Jose Reyes got 2 lucky hits tonight, but has still not been his first half self as of yet.

The Dude (Lucas Duda) was so clutch tonight with his single to give the Mets the lead. I have a feeling he might win the 2012 job this month.

Mets Post Game: Mets 6, Braves 0

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Chris Capuano pitched a 2 hit shutout with 0 walks and 13 strikeouts.
  2. Lucas Duda went 3 for 4 with a 2 run double off of Venters.
  3. Ruben Tejada has 2 hits and a run scored.

Chris Capuano was spectacular tonight. I could tell since the 3rd inning that he was going to do something special tonight. He controlled all of his pitches and they all had great movement. The best game thrown by a Mets starting pitcher this season by far.

Lucas Duda has been pulling the ball with authority as of late. A good finish of the year would be great for him.

If Tejada can prove he can hit 2nd in this lineup he could be a great player.

Grade for the Game: A+

Mets Post Game: Giants 3, Mets 1

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Capuano started and was great. He went 6 innings, let up 2 runs on 4 hits with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts.
  2. Daniel Murphy went 1 for 4 with an RBI double.
  3. Josh Thole went 1 for 2 with a double.

Capuano was great tonight. After a rough first inning of getting the ball stung, he really settled down and kept the giants at bay. I honestly thought after the first inning tonight, he was in for a 3 or 4 inning start. Very tough loss for Capuano tonight.

All of the Mets hits tonight were 2 out doubles. Kind of strange how things work out that way.

The rules with aces are that if you don’t get to them in the first, you probably won’t get to him at all. This happened tonight as the Mets got 1 run off Lincecum in the first, however it was not enough as he shut them down for the rest of his start.

Grade for the Game: B

Sidenote:

Congrats to Derek Jeter on his 3000th career hit and an outstanding game. Being a baseball fan, I really enjoy that type of history. Also, Jeter is one of the few Yankees I have respect for, he’s a classy guy who plays the game the right way even during the steroid era. Send all the hate you want, I am happy for Jeter.

Mets Post Game: Mets 7, Pirates 0

By the Numbers:

  • Chris Capuano went 7 strong innings letting up 0 runs on 3 hits. He walked 2 and struck out 5.
  • Jose Reyes had another huge day going 3 for 5 with a solo homer.
  • Scott Hairston had a pinch hit solo homer back to back with Reyes.
  • Carlos Beltran had a 2 run single.
  • Daniel Murphy had 2 hits today.

Capuano was great today as he kept the pirates off balance and didn’t allow a run to score. He has been a great 5th starter.

Jose Reyes was Jose Reyes…again.

The play where Murphy scored on the sac fly was weird because it took awhile to notice that it was Pagan not Murphy that was called out, good thing they scored.

Murphy has been such an underrated hitter all year long and is second in the NL in batting average since May 21st, only lower than Reyes.

Back to back homers for what seemed like the first time all year just what this team needs!

The offense and rotation is rolling…this could be a very good stretch for this team.

Mets Post Game: Mets 2, Brewers 1

By the Numbers:

  • Chris Capuano started  and went 6 innings while letting up 6 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts.
  • Jose Reyes had 2 MORE hits today including a go ahead 2 run triple.
  • Tejada had 2 hits and Pagan had 1.
  • Beato, Izzy, and K-Rod pitched a scoreless inning each.
  • Beltran had no hits but had a homer robbed from him.

Cap was great in his return to Milwaukee. He threw strikes got big outs, that is shown by how he struck out Braun twice.

I know Shaq retired it during his retirement speech, but Jose Reyes is superman. He can FLY.

Jason Bay is at 0 for 20….Year and a half long slump, come on man!

The ‘pen really stepped up today going 9 up 9 down.

Hat tip to former Met Carlos Gomez, that was a great play on Beltran’s ball.

Mets Post Game: Pirates 9, Mets 3

By the Numbers:

  • Chris Capuano went 6+ innings, let up 8 hits, 5 runs, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts.
  • Justin Turner hit a homer tonight, that is bigger than it sounds.
  • Ruben Tejada had 2 hits and 2 RBIs.
  • Beltran and Murphy each had 2 hits also.
  • Beato let up 3 runs in one inning while Dale Thayer had a scoreless outing.

Chris Capuano pitched SO much better than  his line. Once again he had a shutout through 6 innings and then just fell apart in the 7th.

Justin Turner’s homer ended a 10 game drought for the Mets today If you think about it they is at least 97 homerless innings.

Ruben Tejada has produced so well offensively for him, he has been great all year.

The Mets are just going through one blow up inning per game. It was the 7th and 8th tonight. Our bullpen just flat out sucks lately. They need to get their act back together.

Mets Post Game: Phillies 6, Mets 4

The Numbers:

  • Chris Capuano went 6 great innings, gave up 4 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), 1 walk, and 8 strikeouts.
  • Justin Turner went 4 for 5 with an RBI.
  • Reyes, Beltran, and Paulino had 2 hits each.
  • Angel Pagan made his return tonight and had a 2 hit game.
  • Izzy gave up a run in the 8th and K-Rod gave up 3 in the 9th.
  • Ruben Tejada went 0 f0r 3 with  16 pitch walk.

Capuano was spectacular again tonight holding the Phillies to 1 earned run while striking out 8 men in just 6 innings. He only threw 77 pitches but was pinch hit for in the middle of a rally.

The at-bat by Tejada was amazing. 16 pitches and drawing the walk is just the type of pesky hitter that he needs to be. I am very happy with his production so far.

The Mets made some amazing diving catches in the outfield today, but also botched a few balls. One was an error by Beltran and one was a ball that Murphy should have caught at first, but it got by him.

Justin Turner is a great hitter so far. I don’t know how you can take both him and Tejada out of the lineup once Wright returns. That is going to be a tough choice to make.

Angel Pagan looked like the man from 2010 today getting 2 hits in 4 at-bats. He needs to be back to that form for this team to be succesful.

Grade for the Game: B

Mets Post Game: Yankees 7, Mets 3

The Numbers:

  • Capuano started and went 5 1/3 innings and let up 6 hits, 6 runs, and struck out 5. He gave up 4 homers.
  • Beato went 1 2/3 innings scoreless and Buchholz gave up 1 run.
  • Jose Reyes had 3 hits, a stolen base, and scored twice.
  • Murphy had 2 hits and scored a run.
  • Beltran had an RBI single as did Justin Turner.
  • Jason Bay hit a sac fly.

Chris Capuano simply got bit by Yankee Stadium tonight. It was a long night for him with all of those “long” balls.

If the Mets were playing this game at home, then I can assume that would have resulted in a 3-1 victory. That is smallest ballpark on the face of the planet.

Justin Turner is amazing. An RBI in 7 straight games is an amazing achievement seeing as he set a new franchise record. You need runners on base along with timely hitting to pull this off.

Pedro Beato’s return was nothing out of the ordinary. He was great as usual.

Hey look, no one got raptured so we got to play this game!

Grade for the Game: B-

Mets Post Game: Rockies 2, Mets 1

The Numbers:

  • Chris Capuano went 6 2/3 innings tonight and lets up 5 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
  • Murphy and David Wright each had a hit.
  • Ike Davis had 2 hits.
  • Jason Bay did not record a hit, but hit an RBI groundout where he reached base. However, the play was ruled as an error.
  • Buchholz and Byrdak combined for 1 1/3 scoreless.

As I say everytime that Capuano pitches, he is a great 5th starter as he kept the Mets in the game again. He struggled in the 1st, but really settled down afterwards. I was shaky with him at first in the rotation, but now I think I’ve grown to like him.

There was one play where Murphy was thrown out at the plate when it was clearly safe. Is it just me or do those plays always go against the Mets. Maybe it is just me.

Willie Harris got a lucky hit and I thought, “Oh good this could break him out!” About 1 minute later he tried to steal 2nd down by a run and was thrown out by a mile. Let’s just say a certain Metsnewsnow blogger felt like punching a hole in the wall, but didn’t. ANYWAYS, there is no excuse to stealing there unless you know that you will be safe. Uncalled for there.

Mets Post Game: Giants 2, Mets 0

The Numbers:

  • Chris Capuano went 6 1/3 innings and let up 8 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks, and 5 strikeouts.
  • Iggy and Gee combined for 2 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out 3 and letting up 1 hit.
  • Carlos Beltran had 2 hits including a double. Ronny Paulino also had 2 hits.
  • Daniel Murphy hit a double. Ike Davis also had a hit.

You know…I hate making excuses but you Tim Lincecum was simply dirty tonight striking out 12 Mets in 7 innings.

This does not mean that the Mets did not have opportunities. They had 1st and 3rd with 0 outs and could not score. They also threatened with 2 on in the first inning.

Citi Field played very big tonight as it took away 2 potential homers, one Mets and one Giants. The quote “out of any other ball park” came up alot.

Capuano was great as a 5th starter keeping the Mets in the game, just sort of got unlucky with the pitching matchup. I like what he is doing.
