Mets Post Game: Giants 7, Mets 6 F/10

The Numbers:

  • R.A. Dickey pitched 6 ok innings tonight and let up 7 hits, 5 runs, 1 walk, and 1 strikeout.
  • Jose Reyes went 3 for 3 with 3 walks, a double, and an RBI.
  • Gee and Izzy got through the 7th and 8th While K-Rod got out of a 1st and 3rd 0 out jam unharmed in the 9th.
  • Buchholz gave up the go ahead homer in the 10th to Aubrey Huff.
  • Carlos Beltran went 2 for 4 with a 3 run homer.
  • Ike Davis went 1 for 4 with a 2 run homer.
  • Wright and Pridie had a hit each while Thole got 3 hits.

This was a game that the Mets should have won. They had bases loaded and 1 out in the bottom of the 9th and grounded into a double play. Clearly a shame.

Jose Reyes was spectacular getting on base 6 straight times today. If he can play like that, Sandy will surely try and resign him.

Ike Davis and Carlos Beltran both hit rockets, Carlos’ was a liner, and Ike’s was normal for him…a bomb.

R.A. Dickey looked great through 3, but those 4th and 5th innings where he gave up 6 runs they just killed him. The Giants just hit everything up the middle.

Even with the homer, the bullpen still pitched very well.

Mets Post Game: Mets 8, D-Backs 4

The Numbers:

  • Jon Niese started today and went 7 innings, 6 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
  • David Wright went 2 for 4 with 2 homers, 3 RBI, a walk, and a stolen base.
  • Jason Pridie hit a 3 run homer for his first big league homer.
  • Beltran and Ike each had 2 hits and a double.
  • Reyes and Bay had a hit each.
  • Byrdak, Carrasco, and Igarashi finished up the game.

Niese looked really good today using his four seamer more than usual. He brought the walks down from his last start.

It’s great that David Wright showing power, proving 2009 was a fluke.

I know everybody is saying it, but Bay in this lineup makes everything feel different.

Ike Davis is the hands down MVP of this club so far this year.

First sweep of the year… this looks like the Mets at home from last year.

Mets Post Game: Mets 4, D-Backs 1

The Numbers:

  • Mike Pelfrey started and posted a line of 7 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
  • Ike Davis hit a go ahead 2 run home run in the 7th inning that just cleared the orange line in center field.
  • Carlos Beltran went 1 for 3 with an RBI single.
  • Jason Bay hit a double and struck out twice.
  • Reyes, Murphy, and Nickeas also had hits tonight.
  • Wright went o for 2 with 2 walks and a steal.
  • Izzy pitched a scoreless 8th and K-Rod pitched a scoreless 9th to get the save.

This was a huge start for Mike Pelfrey, after runners were on first and third with nobody out to start the game, he retired the side without a run scoring including a strikeout of Justin Upton. This was also a team that he has never beat, until tonight. He looked so much better tonight than he has all of this year. Hopefully this will stay.

Ike has been such a clutch hitter all year hitting a huge homer to straight away center field. He is leading the Mets in RBI this season.

This lineup looks more confident with Bay in that they feel they can score whenever. Hopefully Bay can show us some power this year.

Izzy has been a force in the ‘pen this year showing that he is not done yet in the majors.

Mets Post Game: Astros 4, Mets 3

The Numbers:

  • R.A. Dickey started today and went 8 innings, let up 8 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
  • Izzy pitched a hitless inning.
  • Daniel Murphy had 3 hits and tied the game with a go ahead 2-run homer.
  • Reyes had 4 hits and a run scored tonight.
  • Beltran had 3 hits, 2 doubles, and an RBI.
  • Ike and Harris each had a hit.

R.A. Dickey was outstanding—he’s the first pitcher of the year to pitch through 8. He gave a tired bullpen the night off.

Pagan tried to score on a weak wild pitch and would have been safe if he had slid correctly.

The Thole play confused me badly. Why would Reyes be off the bag if the ball was popped up? I mean come on, you’re not going to go anywhere. Get back to the bag and we might win this game.

Wright is in a 0 for 18 slump.

Beltran is swinging a red hot bat.

As Keith Hernandez said, “This is like a horror movie!”

Mets Post Game: Astros 6, Mets 1

The Numbers:

  • Niese started tonight and pitched okay going 6 innings, letting up 2 runs, 5 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
  • Carlos Beltran hit is 3rd home run of the year.
  • Pagan and Ike both hit doubles.
  • Beato and Buchholz pitched a scoreless inning each.
  • Igarashi, Byrdak, and Parnell combined for 1 inning, 5 hits, 3 runs, and a balk.

Until he proves it to me, Beltran has no power from the left side anymore.

Niese had control issues all game and went way over 100 pitches to get through 6 which I really like.

Now for Bobby Parnell…what are we going to do with you? That balk just pushed me over the line of frustration with the way this team is playing. Why in your right mind would you come into a bases loaded 2 out situation and BALK in a run. I mean that is minor league play. Then letting up more hits and a few more runs inexcusable. Parnell didn’t have the only crappy play of the night either. Scott Hairston flat out dropped a ball in left field off the bat of Carlos Lee that might have saved a run. Errors by outfielders are simply uncalled for more than infielders in my mind. Now for the umpires, the play at second base where they called it an out and a drop on the transfer was simply bull. There was no way that was a catch, get some sense umps. That is one instance where I would be fine letting my manager get thrown out of a game.

Mets Post Game: Mets 8 Nationals 4

The Numbers:

  • Carlos Beltran had his first huge game of the year going 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and 3 RBI.
  • Ike Davis went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI including his 2nd career triple.
  • Jose Reyes had 2 hits and a walk including a 2 run double.
  • Chris Capuano started tonight going 6 innings, 7 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk, and 8 strikeouts.
  • Parnell, Buchholz and K-Rod pitched scoreless innings each.

This was a huge game for Carlos Beltran as he hit 2 homers tonight. I still do not believe he can hit for power from the left side however.

Capuano had a huge start for the Mets and even though he gave up 4 runs, he still only walked 1 and kept the Mets in the game.

Reyes and Ike are showing signs of heating up.

Parnell and K-Rod walk guys WAY too much.

Mets Post Game: Mets 6, Marlins 4 F/10

The Numbers:

  • David Wright easily had the best day at the plate going 3 for 5 with a solo homer and a go ahead RBI single in the 10th.
  • Ike went 2 for 3 with an RBI double and a walk.
  • Willie Harris came in the game for defense and hit a 2 run double to give the Mets insurance in the 10th.
  • Josh Thole went 3 for 4 with an RBI.
  • Reyes, Pagan, and Beltran each had a hit and a run scored tonight.
  • Jon Niese was spectacular after a shaky first inning going 7 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts throwing 86 pitches. He only allowed 1 hit after the first.
  • Parnell threw a scoreless inning and struck out 2.
  • K-Rod had a terrible game blowing a save and giving up 1 run.
  • Blane Boyer got the save tonight, but gave up a run.

Niese was spectacular, the Marlins just could not hit him after the first inning.

David Wright had a huge day with the opposite field home run and the go ahead hit. The go ahead hit came with 2 strikes also. The most important thing tonight though was that he didn’t strikeout.

Ike and Thole have looked good early.

Beltran ran shockingly well tonight scoring from first on a double and running down a few balls.

Who Will Hit the First Mets Homer of 2011?

If any of you watched the game last night, or even looked at a box score you would know that most Mets didn’t even get their first hit of 2011 yet and nobody hit a homer. So that raises the question of who will hit the first Met home run of 2011. I think that question will be answered tonight, but who would that be? My prediction is that it will be Carlos Beltran. It doesn’t sound practical to pick a guy who is learning a new position with only 13 at bats in 2011 including spring training. With that short fence in right field, it was really only between two guys for me Ike and Carlos. In each game Carlos has played, he has hit at least one ball hard and on a line. I feel he will get a hold of a Nolasco high fastball or hanging curve tonight. But, the only way to find out is to watch the game.

Mets Post Game: Marlins 6, Mets 2

The Numbers:

  • Mike Pelfrey started today going 4 1/3 innings giving up 5 hits, 4 walks, and 2 strikeouts.
  • Willie Harris went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored.
  • Beltran after 9 spring training at bats, hit an RBI double hard down the line to get the Mets on the board.
  • Pagan also had a base hit tonight.
  • Blane Boyer went 2/3 of an inning and didn’t allow a run to score.
  • Pedro Beato made his Major league debut and was great throwing 2 scoreless innings.
  • Taylor Buchholz pitched alright giving up a long home run to Logan Morrison.
  • Brad Emaus went 0 for 2 with a few great defensive plays in his Mets debut.

Pelfrey honestly was not confident and got 8 swings and misses all game long. It was just foul ball after foul ball and his pitch count skyrocketed. I think he needs an out pitch that he can throw for strikes because his splitter was in the dirt almost every single time.

Beltran and Harris looked good tonight both getting hits.

Brad Emaus looked sensational in the field tonight making a few great plays. The entire defense played pretty good as a whole, maybe a few things here and there.

By the way, I just listened to Terry Collins speak after the game and I already love him.
