MNN’s Postseason Predictions

Well, it is the postseason again and the Mets aren’t in it…anyway, that doesn’t mean that I can’t predict the outcome. Let me say something first, these were picked this afternoon, I just had time to write it now. Here we go…

Texas vs. Tampa- My pick is the Rays. There is too much magic going on with that team for them to lose this fast.

Detroit vs. New York- I pick the Tigers. The Yankees pitching will let them down in my opinion.

St. Louis vs. Philadelphia- I’m gonna surprise here and pick the Cards. They are on fire and I think they can pull off the upset. Maybe I just hate the Phils too.

Arizona vs. Milwaukee- The Brewers will win this series. They are too good.

LCS:

Detroit vs. Tampa- I pick Detroit here because of Doug Fister.

St. Louis vs. Milwaukee- Milwaukee will overwhelm the Cardinals and go to the fall classic.

WS:

Detroit vs. Milwaukee- There will be a parade for Fielder before he walks this offseason. Milwaukee is so deep in every aspect.

What do u guys think?

Mets Post Game: Brewers 11, Mets 9

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Angel Pagan went 3 for 5 including a go-ahead 2 run homer off K-Rod to give the Mets the lead.
  2. Jason Isringhausen went 0 innings let up 1 hit, 4 runs and 3 walks to the Brewers in his worst Met outing.
  3. Ruben Tejada went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and an RBI.

This game WAS arguably the game of the year that is until the 9th inning came along. K-Rod comes in and struggles against his old team. You could not write a better script than that…for a while that is.

I feel bad for Izzy.Everyone now is going to question, is this guy done and can he pitch anymore. He is fine. He had ONE bad outing. I felt bad for him as he was booed off the field.

Chris Capuano today was not AS bad as his line showed today. He made 3 bad pitches (arguably 2) and they all landed in the seats. I do believe, however that Braun’s HR was not a bad pitch at all.

Ruben Tejada has beenĀ  tearing the cover off the ball since his re-call.

Grade for the Game: B

Mets Post Game: Brewers 6, Mets 1

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Angel Pagan went 3 for 4 tonight.
  2. Ruben Tejada went 2 for 3.
  3. Mike Pelfrey gave up 3 earned runs in 5 innings of work. He walked 4 and struck out 4.

I am tired of Mike Pelfrey…he has no out pitch. He has a great sinker/fastball but all of his other pitches are crap. I don’t know if he can be good again.

Tejada and Pagan hit well tonight…so that’s a good thing.

Oh and by the way, what Fielder did was ridiculous. Don’t charge Byrdak.

That felt WAY longer than the west coast games that we played earlier.

Mets Trade K-Rod to the Brewers

The Mets and Brewers announced today that they have completed a trade for closer Francisco Rodriguez and cash for 2 players to be named later. K-Rod will be the new Brewers set-up man.The Mets will get to pick 2 players from a pool of guys to complete the trade.

This is one contract that the Mets needed to get rid of. We could not allow ourselves to pay K-Rod 17.5MM in 2012 because he finished 55 games this season. I have a feeling that Sandy is going to pick 2 great young guys to finish the trade. As for the closers role, Izzy, I believe will not get it. He is too old and can not take the innings. I believe it is in-between Parnell and Beato. I would like to see Beato, however I believe Parnell will be the new closer of the Mets. The white flag has not yet been waved by Alderson. Best of luck to K-Rod in Milwaulkee. Lets Go Mets!

Mets Post Game: Mets 4, Brewers 1

By the Numbers:

  • Jon Niese started and went 7 2/3 innings letting up 3 hits, 1 run, 4 walks, and 8 strikeouts.
  • Ruben Tejada had 2 hits including an RBI single.
  • Angel Pagan had 2 hits, an RBI single and a Triple.
  • Beltran and Turner had 2 hits each.
  • Murphy and Pridie had a hit and RBI each.
  • K-Rod got a 4 out save, striking out 2.

Jon Niese was great tonight tying his career high in strikeouts, working efficiently, and getting out of jams. His only problem was the 4 walks tonight and the RBI double by Fielder. He threw a career high in curveballs which was the key to his success tonight.

It’s kinda funny that Jose Reyes was the only hitless Met position player tonight.

The Mets are winning during this power outage because of key hitting, stealing bases, and their starting pitching. Entering the game since May 20th the Mets are 1st in batting average and 3rd in average with RISP. Homers mean nothing, runs do.

Ruben Tejada looks like a different hitter from last year, he is no longer overmatched at the plate and is showing that he could take the starting 2nd base spot when Wright and Ike return.

The Mets took 2 of 3 from the team with the best home record in baseball…now that is a statement.

Grade for the Game: B+

Mets Post Game: Mets 2, Brewers 1

By the Numbers:

  • Chris Capuano startedĀ  and went 6 innings while letting up 6 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts.
  • Jose Reyes had 2 MORE hits today including a go ahead 2 run triple.
  • Tejada had 2 hits and Pagan had 1.
  • Beato, Izzy, and K-Rod pitched a scoreless inning each.
  • Beltran had no hits but had a homer robbed from him.

Cap was great in his return to Milwaukee. He threw strikes got big outs, that is shown by how he struck out Braun twice.

I know Shaq retired it during his retirement speech, but Jose Reyes is superman. He can FLY.

Jason Bay is at 0 for 20….Year and a half long slump, come on man!

The ‘pen really stepped up today going 9 up 9 down.

Hat tip to former Met Carlos Gomez, that was a great play on Beltran’s ball.

Mets Post Game: Brewers 9, Mets 2

The Numbers:

  1. Lucas Duda and Josh Thole drove in the runs tonight. Duda had an RBI double.
  2. Gee made his final start of the year tonight and went 6 innings and let up 4 runs (2 earned).
  3. Sean Green gave up 5 runs, (3 earned) in the 9th.

The Defense tonight was terrible, just terrible.

Nothing was really good about tonight, we were beat by a pitcher with a 5 ERA.

Mets Post Games: Brewers 8, Mets 7; Brewers 3, Mets 1

I thought we could try a double post game in honor of tonights double header.

The Numbers: (Game 1)

  1. In game 1, David Wright hit a 2 run homer and Lucas Duda hit a solo shot off of Gallardo.
  2. The Mets were down 6-0 in Game 1 and led 7-6 at one point.
  3. Jose Reyes went 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and a triple.
  4. Jon Niese pitched badly going 2 1/3 and letting up 6 runs.

That’s sad that Niese’s year ended that way…hope to see him excel in 2011.

It was good to see David Wright get to 100 RBIs on the year…good milestone for him.

Ike is red hot this september.

Grade for the Game: B-

The Numbers: (Game 2)

  1. Jose Reyes, Angel Pagan, and R.A. Dickey had all 5 Met hits tonight.
  2. Ike Davis drove in the only run on a sac fly.
  3. Dickey went 6 innings and gave up a run while striking out 4
  4. Feliciano went 0 innings and gave up 2 runs.
  5. Green and Valdes finished the night for the Mets.

I wish RA Dickey would have had a win in his final start. He certainly deserved one.

So they can hit against Gallardo but no Bush….that makes no sense whatsoever.

Well they have to sweep the Nats to finish .500

Grade for the Game: D

Mets Post Game: Mets 4, Brewers 3

The Numbers:

  1. Ruben Tejada ended the game with a walkoff 2 run double to right field of John Axford.
  2. David Wright hit his 27th homer of the year, a 2 run shot.
  3. Carlos Beltran left the game with a knee injury.
  4. Pelfrey was great tonight going 7 1/3 inning 5 hits, 3 runs, 4 walks, and 2 strikeouts.
  5. Feliciano and Dessens finished the game.

Great moment for the kid, he is really starting to hit down the stretch.

It seems like Pelfrey is into the 7th inning or so in almost every start lately and that is a good sign.

David Wright only needs 2 more RBIs to get to 100 on the year.

Grade for the Game: A

Mets Post Game: Mets 10, Brewers 4

What’s Important:

Hitting:

Today the Mets got 10 runs on 16 hits in a win over the Brewers. Reyes and Castillo each went 2 for 5, Castillo drove in 2 runs and Reyes drove in 1. Jason Bay, Fernando Tatis, and Ike Davis combined for a 0 for 9 with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. The 5-6-7-8 hitters all had multiple hit games. Wright drove in one, Pagan hit a 2 run homer, Francoeur had a 4 hit day with 2 RBI, and Blanco had a 3 hit day with an RBI. Dickey also had a hit and an RBI today.

Pitching:

R.A. Dickey was good today, not great but good enough to earn a win. He went 7 innings allowing 9 hits, 4 runs, and struck out 3. Feliciano came in and walked the first batter in the 8th, was removed for Elmer Dessens who came in and got a huge double play and then a fly out to end the inning. K-Rod came in for a perfect 9th and struck out 2 showing his best velocity of the season.

Grade for the Game: A

I honestly have no complaints today. I never expect much from R.A. Dickey, he is no Ubaldo Jimenez. 7 innings, 4 runs with a win is great and a break for the bullpen. The offense today was great. The Mets went 6 for 17 with runners in scoring position and tied season highs for hits and runs. It also felt good to give Jeff Suppan some payback today.
