Mets Post Game: Mets 2, Brewers 1

By the Numbers:

  • Chris Capuano started  and went 6 innings while letting up 6 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts.
  • Jose Reyes had 2 MORE hits today including a go ahead 2 run triple.
  • Tejada had 2 hits and Pagan had 1.
  • Beato, Izzy, and K-Rod pitched a scoreless inning each.
  • Beltran had no hits but had a homer robbed from him.

Cap was great in his return to Milwaukee. He threw strikes got big outs, that is shown by how he struck out Braun twice.

I know Shaq retired it during his retirement speech, but Jose Reyes is superman. He can FLY.

Jason Bay is at 0 for 20….Year and a half long slump, come on man!

The ‘pen really stepped up today going 9 up 9 down.

Hat tip to former Met Carlos Gomez, that was a great play on Beltran’s ball.

Mets Post Game: Mets 6, Braves 4

By the Numbers:

  • Dickey pitched 8 strong innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits. He walked 1 and struck out 3 Braves.
  • Jose Reyes went 2 for 4 with a double and RBI.
  • Daniel Murphy went 2 for 3 with a walk.
  • Beltran hit an RBI double and left the game early after fouling a ball off his shin.
  • Pagan, Tejada, and Turner had RBI singles.
  • Acosta gave up 2 runs in 1/3 of an inning and K-rod gave up 1 in the final 2/3.

Dickey was great today with his second great start in a row. His knuckler was great as it fooled the Braves hitters all night. It looks like he is back to himself again. I wish he could have gone 9, but I guess his pitch limit was over.

Jose Reyes is starting to defy words. He is just amazing. He could be buying his way into a Mets uniform for years to come.

The offense was great without Bay tonight. Even with Murphy as a cleanup hitter they can still produce without home runs. 4 of the starting 9 tonight are hitting above .300.

The bullpen is awful. Simply put, it needs help and alot of it.

Grade for the Game: B

Mets Post Game: Mets 7, Cubs 4 F/7

The Numbers:

  • Dillon Gee pitched a 6 inning complete game going 6 innings letting up 4 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
  • Every Met starter, besides the pitcher, had a base hit tonight.
  • Carlos Beltran had 2 hits including a double and triple while driving in 2.
  • Tejada, Reyes, and Pridie had 2 hits each.
  • Turner drove in 1 run, Thole drove in 1, and Murphy drove in 2.

That was a nice and easy complete game for Gee. He was great after the first inning where he let up nothing over the next 5. The Mets are 6-0 in his starts.

Great offense tonight although they were helped by taking 12 straight balls including 2 bases loaded walks.

Everybody contributed tonight and they moved runners and did not need the long ball to drive guys in. Great effort all around.

Grade for the Game: B+

Mets Post Game: Mets 9, Rockies 5

The Numbers:

  • Carlos Beltran was the star hitting 3 2-run homers as he drove in all but 3 of the Mets runs.
  • Jon Niese started and went 6 1/3 innings while letting up 5 runs, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
  • Josh Thole Hit a sac fly and Jose Reyes went 1 for 5 with a 2 run single.
  • Willie Harris had a hit and scored three times while Bay also had a hit.
  • O’Connor, Buchholz, Izzy, and K-Rod finished off the game.

Beltran and what he did tonight was great and really got me pumped up. He filled in great in the absence of Ike showing power from both sides of the plate. He is still a great hitter even with all the critisim he has gone through. If Terry is smart, he will continue to hit 3rd.

I feel bad for Niese, he pitched way better then his line showed. Even without a curveball he had only given up 2 or 3 runs before he was taken out. Simply a shame to me.

Jose Reyes’ bases loaded single was huge as the Mets usually struggle with the bases loaded.

Why was K-Rod in for the 9th? Byrdak was warming up and it was not a save situation. Do you wanna cost us $17.5MM Terry?

By the way, thats ANOTHER road series win.

Mets Post Game: Giants 2, Mets 0

The Numbers:

  • Chris Capuano went 6 1/3 innings and let up 8 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks, and 5 strikeouts.
  • Iggy and Gee combined for 2 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out 3 and letting up 1 hit.
  • Carlos Beltran had 2 hits including a double. Ronny Paulino also had 2 hits.
  • Daniel Murphy hit a double. Ike Davis also had a hit.

You know…I hate making excuses but you Tim Lincecum was simply dirty tonight striking out 12 Mets in 7 innings.

This does not mean that the Mets did not have opportunities. They had 1st and 3rd with 0 outs and could not score. They also threatened with 2 on in the first inning.

Citi Field played very big tonight as it took away 2 potential homers, one Mets and one Giants. The quote “out of any other ball park” came up alot.

Capuano was great as a 5th starter keeping the Mets in the game, just sort of got unlucky with the pitching matchup. I like what he is doing.

Grade for the Game: C

Mets Post Game: Giants 7, Mets 6 F/10

The Numbers:

  • R.A. Dickey pitched 6 ok innings tonight and let up 7 hits, 5 runs, 1 walk, and 1 strikeout.
  • Jose Reyes went 3 for 3 with 3 walks, a double, and an RBI.
  • Gee and Izzy got through the 7th and 8th While K-Rod got out of a 1st and 3rd 0 out jam unharmed in the 9th.
  • Buchholz gave up the go ahead homer in the 10th to Aubrey Huff.
  • Carlos Beltran went 2 for 4 with a 3 run homer.
  • Ike Davis went 1 for 4 with a 2 run homer.
  • Wright and Pridie had a hit each while Thole got 3 hits.

This was a game that the Mets should have won. They had bases loaded and 1 out in the bottom of the 9th and grounded into a double play. Clearly a shame.

Jose Reyes was spectacular getting on base 6 straight times today. If he can play like that, Sandy will surely try and resign him.

Ike Davis and Carlos Beltran both hit rockets, Carlos’ was a liner, and Ike’s was normal for him…a bomb.

R.A. Dickey looked great through 3, but those 4th and 5th innings where he gave up 6 runs they just killed him. The Giants just hit everything up the middle.

Even with the homer, the bullpen still pitched very well.

Mets Post Game: Mets 8, D-Backs 4

The Numbers:

  • Jon Niese started today and went 7 innings, 6 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
  • David Wright went 2 for 4 with 2 homers, 3 RBI, a walk, and a stolen base.
  • Jason Pridie hit a 3 run homer for his first big league homer.
  • Beltran and Ike each had 2 hits and a double.
  • Reyes and Bay had a hit each.
  • Byrdak, Carrasco, and Igarashi finished up the game.

Niese looked really good today using his four seamer more than usual. He brought the walks down from his last start.

It’s great that David Wright showing power, proving 2009 was a fluke.

I know everybody is saying it, but Bay in this lineup makes everything feel different.

Ike Davis is the hands down MVP of this club so far this year.

First sweep of the year… this looks like the Mets at home from last year.

Grade for the Game: A-

Mets Post Game: Mets 4, D-Backs 1

The Numbers:

  • Mike Pelfrey started and posted a line of 7 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
  • Ike Davis hit a go ahead 2 run home run in the 7th inning that just cleared the orange line in center field.
  • Carlos Beltran went 1 for 3 with an RBI single.
  • Jason Bay hit a double and struck out twice.
  • Reyes, Murphy, and Nickeas also had hits tonight.
  • Wright went o for 2 with 2 walks and a steal.
  • Izzy pitched a scoreless 8th and K-Rod pitched a scoreless 9th to get the save.

This was a huge start for Mike Pelfrey, after runners were on first and third with nobody out to start the game, he retired the side without a run scoring including a strikeout of Justin Upton. This was also a team that he has never beat, until tonight. He looked so much better tonight than he has all of this year. Hopefully this will stay.

Ike has been such a clutch hitter all year hitting a huge homer to straight away center field. He is leading the Mets in RBI this season.

This lineup looks more confident with Bay in that they feel they can score whenever. Hopefully Bay can show us some power this year.

Izzy has been a force in the ‘pen this year showing that he is not done yet in the majors.

Grade for the Game: A

Mets Post Game: Astros 4, Mets 3

The Numbers:

  • R.A. Dickey started today and went 8 innings, let up 8 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
  • Izzy pitched a hitless inning.
  • Daniel Murphy had 3 hits and tied the game with a go ahead 2-run homer.
  • Reyes had 4 hits and a run scored tonight.
  • Beltran had 3 hits, 2 doubles, and an RBI.
  • Ike and Harris each had a hit.

R.A. Dickey was outstanding—he’s the first pitcher of the year to pitch through 8. He gave a tired bullpen the night off.

Pagan tried to score on a weak wild pitch and would have been safe if he had slid correctly.

The Thole play confused me badly. Why would Reyes be off the bag if the ball was popped up? I mean come on, you’re not going to go anywhere. Get back to the bag and we might win this game.

Wright is in a 0 for 18 slump.

Beltran is swinging a red hot bat.

As Keith Hernandez said, “This is like a horror movie!”
