Johan Santana is scheduled for his next rehab assignment this Friday with Savannah in the Minor League playoffs. Johan seems to be rehabbing in order to pitch in the Majors this season. However, the minor league playoffs can only last so long. I do not think that Johan will have enough time to get his stamina up in the minors and still wants to rehab. This causes me to believe that Johan will pitch out of the bullpen this season. I think they will bring him in situations where he will always start an inning and be put in situations where he can succeed. The Mets, now that the rosters are expanded, have 2 lefties in the bullpen, Daniel Herrera and Tim Byrdak. If both of them are tired, why not put Johan in a game against the Phils to face Howard and Utley in an inning. This is the perfect way to have Johan pitch in the majors this year, while keeping his pitches down and shoulder healthy.

Is there a 6 Man Rotation in the Future?
As of right now the current pitching rotation is Gee, Dickey, Pelfrey, Niese, and Capuano. All of these men have pitched very well this year, however there is one small issue. Johan Santana could be back in as soon as a month if everything goes according to plan. So the question is who leaves the rotation when he returns? I don’t think anybody will. Niese is young and has been great, Dickey and Pelfrey have turned it back on as of late, Gee is in the conversation for rookie of the year and Capuano has been great as a 5th starter. Neither of them have earned a bullpen job. The only one of those guys who would even fit in the ‘pen would be Capuano because he can give you innings and he is lefty. But, Capuano doesn’t deserve a bullpen demotion upon Johan’s return. The only logical thing to do is either trade somebody (Pelfrey) or do what the White Sox have done and have a 6 man pitching rotation. Yes, some of the starters lose innings, but it could be good for this team. It could keep Johan’s innings down as he comes back to keep him healthy, it could help Niese and Gee keep endurance as neither have pitched 200 innings before, and no body ever complained about a days extra rest. So if everyone is producing well why not? There is no MLB rule that says a starter must start every 5 days.
Johan Santana Could Miss all of 2011
It was announced today that Johan’s surgery was not arthroscopic surgery which could cause him to miss all or most of 2011. Now, you might ask, what is the difference between arthroscopic and regular surgery? An arthroscopic surgery is where the doctor can get to what needs to be repaired by making a small incision and using a camera to see what he is doing. However, it was announced today that the doctor had to make a full incision in order to repair the tear. This takes much longer to recover from than arthroscopic surgery. Hopefully we can see our ace in 2011.
It Was Johan’s Day
I love this picture so much, this was a great moment tonight. Once again, congrats Johan.
Thank you to Metsblog for the picture.
I Hate TMZ…
TMZ has reported that Mets pitcher Johan Santana has been accused of sexual battery last fall on a golf course. It was reported that he tried to rip off and enter in the women’s “skort”. Although, he was accused but, never charged and the case is closed. This is ridiculous, he was accused but not charged. The only evidence they had was the women’s cloths which could have been fake. I can accuse anyone of anything if I wanted to and file a police report. In my mind nothing happened. TMZ is a terrible company that stalks celebrities, makes up stories, and makes their lives hell. Even when they find a true story, they blow it up and add lies to it to make it seem like a true story. Also, think about this last August Johan had elbow surgery and this story was reported last fall. So how could he have been playing golf almost a month after surgery? He wasn’t and it was a fake story and he was most likely not even at the golf course. It is a stupid report that is most likely not true. TMZ needs to stop making information up, stop stalking people, and deserves to be shut down.
