Mets Post Game: Cardinals 6, Mets 5

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Chris Schwinden went 6 innings let up 6 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts.
  2. Willie Harris went 3 for 4 with his 2nd home run of the season.
  3. Josh Satin got his first career RBIs with a 2 run double.

Chris Schwinden got into bad luck tonight. He deserved his first career win with his outing today but, I guess the stars were just not alligned for him tonight. Don’t worry however, he did get his first career hit.

Congrats to Josh Satin on his first career RBIs. Hopefully he can form to become a quality run producer.

Although he was tagged with the loss tonight, I still love Daniel Herrera but I don’t know why.

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. R.A. Dickey went 7 2/3 innings let up 3 hits, 1 run, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. Just the norm for R.A. I guess…
  2. Ruben Tejada is still hot getting 2 hits tonight.
  3. Lucas Duda and Josh Thole had the other 2 hits for the Mets.

This game was truely a shame for R.A. Dickey. Don’t get me wrong the Mets played their heart out. Dickey just couldn’t buy a run.

Something really bothered me today. The FOX announcers commented late in the game how Tim Hudson was pitching his tail off. This was a point in time where Dickey had less strikeouts than Hudson but had given up LESS hits. I simply don’t understand how they overlooked that.

Ruben Tejada is making a case to get a starting job for next year.

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. David Wright broke out of a long slump going 3 for 6 with 2 homers and 5 RBIs.
  2. Lucas Duda went 4 for 5 with an RBI and 3 runs scored.
  3. Jose Reyes went 3 for 5 and is now hitting .334.

Chris Capuano settled down after a rough start to his night giving up 2 runs in the first 2 innings and then baring down to go 5 solid innings and ultimately get the job done.

The Mets bullpen was solid tonight going 4 innings and letting up 0 hits and 1 walk in the night.

Although he has not hit as much as we want him too, Jason Bay has been a solid defender as he showed tonight robbing a homer from Alex Gonzalez. I don’t feel any hatred for Jason Bay.

Of course the day where the Mets get a huge win and blowout the Braves, the help the Phillies clinch the division…an incredibly bittersweet win tonight.

Box Score

3 Standout Performances:

  1. Mike Pelfrey pitched surprisingly well tonight throwing 7 innings, letting up 2 runs (neither are which were earned), and struck out 6.
  2. Jason Bay went 1 for 2 with 2 walks tonight.
  3. Jose Reyes got 1 hit in 5 chances leaving his batting average at .331 (Braun is at .328 in the 8th inning against Colorado).

Mike Pelfrey has confused me as of late. His velocity has raised to the mid to high 90′s consistently. The one problem is that he does not have an out pitch. I don’t really understand it.

Jose Reyes has cooled off since the beginning of the season.

Josh Stinson has impressed as of late. He could be a piece of the bullpen for 2012.

    Box Score

    3 Standout Performances:

    1. David Wright and Angel Pagan each had RBI hits today.
    2. Jose Reyes went 0 for 4 losing his lead in the batting race.
    3. R.A. Dickey got no run support AGAIN. He gave up 2 runs in 7 innings, struck out 7 and walked none.

The Mets cannot buy a run when Dickey starts. It does not make sense to me how one player can be so unlucky. He deserves so many more wins than he has.

Jose Reyes is in a cold streak, let’s hope he can break out.

Jason Bay, although he went hitless, has still been killing the ball as of late.

Box Scores:   Game 1      Game 2

    3 Standout Performances:

    1. Jason Bay hit a grand slam in game 1, in the first inning. He has looked amazing. Jason also drove in the only run in game 2.
    2. Over the double header, Daniel Herrera pitched 3 scoreless innings. I really like him as a lefty specialist.
    3. Chris Schwinden gave up 8 hits and 5 runs in 5 innings of work in his big league debut.

Anytime you lose a game where you hit a grand slam in the first inning it is bad. I am sorry, but I have a huge problem with that.

Chris Schwinden was effective in his debut, but not impressive. His stuff was not impressive with his cut fastball and curve, I hope to see more from him in his next start.

Dillon Gee simply had bad luck tonight giving up 4 hits and 2 runs in 6 innings of work. Now he knows how Dickey feels every start I guess.

Jose Reyes went 1 for 4 and is still hitting .335 on the season.

    Box Score

    3 Standout Performances:

    1. Jason Bay went 2 for 4 with a long 2 run homer. He looked like the Bay from 2009…just sayin’
    2. Chris Capuano gave up 8 hits and 6 runs in 4 rough innings of work.
    3. Angel Pagan had 2 hits and an RBI.

Capuano simply put had a rough, rough day on the mound. He just got hit hard all game. That could either be fatigue, or just a rough start. Who knows.

Jason Bay is on fire once again. I wont be hyped up about him until…well never. Any breakouts that he has from now on will be a complete surprise to me.

When Reyes does not hit, he fields and he is damn good at it. He made another sensational play tonight. He is a must sign.

    Box Score

    3 Standout Performances:

    1. Lucas Duda hit a bomb into the upper deck of Nationals Park, a game tying shot for his 9th homer of the year.
    2. Willie Harris hit a pinch hit 2 run single to give the Mets the lead.
    3. In his big league debut Josh Satin went 1 for 2 with a single.

I don’t know what to say about Mike Pelfrey. The one plus over his last couple of starts have been his fastball velocity. It has been climbing back up into 95-97 range as of late. However, he still does not have a put away pitch in his arsenal. I still think he should use his curve more.

Ruben Tejada is making a case here that he can hit at this level.

Josh Stinson was great out of the bullpen again going 2 innings today showing poise as a relief pitcher.

Congrats to Josh Satin on his first big league hit.

    Box Score

    3 Standout Performances:

    1. Jason Bay actually had a quality-ish game going 3 for 4 with an RBI single.
    2. Lucas Duda had only 1 hit which was a clutch RBI single to give the Mets the lead.
    3. David Wright hit 2 doubles tonight while scoring a run.

Chris Capuano really struggled tonight being lucky that he gave up 2 runs in his start throwing 100 pitches in 5 innings. It was a very bad start, but he did a great job fighting through it.

Jason Bay got lucky tonight. He got an RBI hit off the pitcher, a swinging bunt, and one solid single. Whatever works for you Jason, whatever works man…

Jose Reyes got 2 lucky hits tonight, but has still not been his first half self as of yet.

The Dude (Lucas Duda) was so clutch tonight with his single to give the Mets the lead. I have a feeling he might win the 2012 job this month.

    1. Dillon Gee went 6 innings let up 6 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts.
    2. Ruben Tejada went 2 for 4 with a triple and 2 runs scored.
    3. David Wright went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.

Ruben Tejada has been absolutely spectacular since his recall from Buffalo. He has continued to hit and make spectacular plays like the one he did at first base. Great barehanded play by the youngster.

Dillon Gee was great tonight mixing up his pitches and keeping the fish off balance.

Manny Acosta was great, and wild tonight. He struck out 3 but was inches away from hitting Mike Stanton in the head.

    Welcome back Jose!
