Each and every game in Mets history had one thing in common. Whether it was to lead off the game, the 5th inning, or with 2 outs in the 9th, the opposing team always found a way to muster up a base hit off Mets pitching. 8019 games later, that is no longer true. Johan Santana has thrown the first no-hitter in Mets history.

All through spring training, and up to today experts have been saying, “He’s washed up” “He’s not healthy” “He isn’t the same pitcher he used to be” We shouldn’t be hearing those voices anymore. This man is a bulldog topping a career high with 130 and I think he would have killed Terry Collins if he had tried to take him out of the game. One thing people aren’t talking about is that this is his second consecutive shutout. Simply dominant.

Johan could not do this alone, however, he had help from his bats and Mike Baxter. Johan usually gets no run support and tonight he got 8 runs, that made it easier on him, and on Terry Collins. Second, Mike Baxter sacrificed himself, his shoulder, and potentially his season to make the catch for Johan and that is absolutely incredible.

Every Mets fan felt the same way that I did, we all thought this wouldn’t happen. But it did and I could not be more excited. This must be what it feels like to watch them win a world championship. Unbelievable. Congrats Johan! Lets go Mets!
